What you can do at home… When your child brings home a piece of their artwork try asking them an open- ended question about their project. Here are some suggestions to get the conversation going…

What is your favorite part of the picture?

What materials did you use? Why did you use the color…? If you were to do this picture

again, what would you do differently?

How did you think of your

Idea?

Physical Education

Newsletter “Health and Achievement go hand in hand “

Welcome back to school!! The philosophy of PS26’S Physical Education program is

to develop both the mind and body through movement. Physical Education is an

integral part of your child’s education that contributes to his/her growth and

development. It is the goal to give your child a positive P.E. experience and to

help him/her gain an appreciation of the importance of staying healthy through

lifetime fitness and recreational activities. Your child will have experience in

individual, team and group activities that place an emphasis on participation,

cooperation, and success through personal goals. In addition, a continued

emphasis on nutrition and health will be explored through activities and lessons.

A key element that contributes to a student’s

success and wellbeing is safety. While in P.E.

class students need to wear appropriate

clothing and footwear.

Road Runners

The Road Runners is a running

program for kids of all fitness

levels. It’s designed to get kids

moving. Participation in RR

helps kids build their self-

esteem and learn to make and

reach personal goals. Students

set goals to run and/or walk a

certain distance and earn

rewards for reaching

milestones along the way. We

usually jog 12 to 14 laps during

P.E. class. Our goal is to

increase that number and build

up our stamina.

We are looking forward to a fun filled

exciting year ahead!! During the beautiful

Fall months take some time to go out and

enjoy the weather by taking a nature

walk, visit the local park or take a family

bike riding excursion. Just remember

KEEP MOVING!!

Welcome back to PS 26Q! I am hoping this year will be a fun and exciting one as we begin to learn new amazing things this year in science. This year we will be covering three units of study. I am looking forward to teaching the 2nd grade until Feb-ruary and I will begin teaching the 1st grade. Looking forward to the fun and excitement.

During the months of September, October and half of No-vember, we will be exploring our first Life Science unit of Plant and Animal Relationships. There are no new chalta trees grow-ing in the fictional Bengal Tiger Reserve in India. Students work to figure out why there are no new chalta trees growing in the Bengal Tiger Reserve. Students investigate what the chalta tree need to survive, then collects and analyzes qualitative and quantitative date to help solve the mystery.

Chapter questions Chapter 1: Why aren’t new chalta trees growing in the Ben-gal Tiger Reserve: Chapter 2: Why aren’t the chalta seeds getting what they need to grow? Chapter 3: Why aren’t the chalta seeds getting to places where they can grow? Chapter 4: How are other seeds in the reserve able to get to places where they can grow? Consider the following: Family Fun activity—walk around your

home and our school and notice what plants and animals you can see and hear. What do you smell when you are outside on a sunny

day and a rainy day?
