CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM: ZAMBIA CONFERENCE OF CATHO-LIC BISHOPS’ COMMUNICATIONS
SECRETARY 23rd DECEMBER, 2016
To all Christians and people of God in Zambia, Merry Christmas!
We celebrate at Christmas the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the time when we celebrate God’s love which God the Father showed us by sending his son “to become the perfect sacrifice for sin” (Romans 8:3).
God manifested concretely his love for humanity when he sent his son who became ‘Immanuel’ – God with us. Jesus was born like us yet he remained God as Scripture attests to this: “…born not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but God; the Word became flesh, he lived among us and we saw his glory;” (John 1:13-14). Jesus lived like us, though without sin. He experienced our hu-
man nature. This demonstrates that God is able to love us despite our human frailty. He has glorified our humanity by becoming like one of us.
Christmas becomes such a time when we recall that moment in history when the incarnation took place. It is the time for us to celebrate, to rejoice be-cause it marks the end of our journey of slavery to sin and the dawn of a new day of salvation.
We human beings have always been striving for self-preservation and
progression. From the time humanity failed, we have looked up to God for help and grace. And God who never fails always comes to help us.
The angel’s Christmas message to the shepherds: “Do not be afraid. Look, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11), is also our mes-sage. It is the message of peace and life-giving. It is also the message of hope.

Liturgical Assignment 2017
In connection with the Letter from the Pastoral Office of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, dated 1st De-cember 2016: ‘PROPOSED ACTIVITIES TO BE DONE CELEBRATE THE “YEAR OF THE FAMILY”’, the Parish Liturgical Committee came out with the number of suggestions:
—————————————————————————————————
REMINDERS: Prayers before Sunday Masses
It has been noticed, that some of the Groups on Duty do not perform this simple spiritual duty. The Liturgical Committee reminds that it is for the spiritu-al growth of those who come to celebrate.
Ushering during the Masses (Peace and Order)
The Groups on duty must take seriously the as-signed duties, as the prayers before Mass are to prepare our hearts for the spiritual food served dur-ing the Holt Mass: the Table of the Word of God, and the Table of the Holy Eucharist.
The same applies to the control of the parishion-ers’ movements during the important parts of the Mass (including both adults and children), especially during the Consecration.
Number of times we experienced at our parish, that Holy Communion has been received by people not prepared for it - a group on duty must control and eventually stop such people from receiving the Holy Communion.
Singing during the Mass The Liturgical Committee wishes to remind the
Choirs about the importance of the SILENCE in the Liturgy. It refers especially to the pause of silence before the Act of Penance, after homily (preaching), as well as before the Holy Communion (NB. The choir Members are the first to receiving of the Holy Communion).
We would like to remind that Mass is not about singing; singing is to assist the order of Mass.
All the Choirs are to prepare the “singing pro-gramme” and present it to the Priests by Saturday preceding the Sunday, on which the choir is to lead in singing. NB. The Priests have the right to make a changes (e.g. replace a penance song on the occa-sion of the blessing of the water at the beginning of Mass).
—————————————————————————————————
NEW ASSIGNMENTS: Daily Liturgical Duties
It has been noticed, that the Lay Groups/Movements, which have their meetings during the weekdays (14.00-17.00) do not perform their duties
sufficiently (e.g. readings, petitions, singing etc.) and late coming for Mass - even the distance from each shelter is not too big… Therefore, it has been decid-ed, that starting from Monday, 2nd January 2016, the Weekday Masses duties will be assigned to the SCCs (singing, reading, petitions). Please, see the last page of this Newsletter. The Groups/Movements will be responsible to lead the prayers before Week-days Masses (e.g. 15 minutes before Masses) - to avoid the late coming for Masses, as well as deeper preparation for the celebration of the Mass.
Sunday Offertory It has been noticed, that some of the Lay Groups/
Movements/Councils introduced the Sunday Offerto-ry by the Group’s Members, but it has been abound-ed as time went on…
Therefore, it has been decided, that the Groups/Movements/Councils will be assigned to particular Sundays in a month to make their offertory (apart from SCC on duty):
The above-mentioned suggestions/decisions have been discussed at the Parish Leadership Level (e.g. on Friday, 16th Dec. 2016 the Parish Chairper-son, the two Priests and the Liturgical Committee Chairperson). All the New Assignments to be imple-mented from the beginning of the New Year 2017.
Please, refer to the copy of the above-mentioned letter ‘PROPOSED ACTIVITIES TO BE DONE CELEBRATE THE “YEAR OF THE FAMILY”’, which has been given to all the SCCs and Councils - the letter must be discussed during the SCC Meeting (8 January 2017).
