How do We Prepare the Way of the Lord? How do We Prepare Ourselves for the Coming of the Lord?
Well, there are two responses. First of all, each year as the Advent season comes and we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we need once more to hear the call of John the Baptist to baptism, conversion, and forgiveness. Although our own Baptism may have taken place a long time ago, as an infant or as an adult, Baptism must constantly be renewed. We need to re-affirm our commitment to the
Christian community, to the Body of Christ, through which we go to God and through which our God comes to us.
We need to open ourselves to further conversion, to an ever deeper change of heart, to a
deeper listening to what Jesus is asking of us, “Lord, what do you want me to do, who do you want me to be?” And, we need, because of our commitment to the Body of Christ, to find total reconciliation with God and with all those people who come into our lives.
Our second response is a realization that our role is not unlike that of John the Baptist. Like
him, each one of us has a mission to communicate the Spirit of Christ and his message of hope, love, freedom and peace to others. To help people fill their valleys and make their rough paths smoother. A word of affirmation and encouragement can work wonders – a cheerful Christian is a real witness of Christmas joy.
¿Cómo preparar el camino del Señor? ¿Cómo nos preparamos para la venida del Señor?
Bueno, hay dos respuestas. En primer lugar, cada año como el tiempo de Adviento viene y nos preparamos para celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús, necesitamos una vez más escuchar el llamado de Juan el Bautista al bautismo, la conversión y al perdón. Aunque nuestro propio bautismo fuera hace mucho tiempo atrás, como bebé o en la edad adulta, nuestro bautismo debe ser constantemente renovado. Tenemos que
reafirmar nuestro compromiso con la comunidad cristiana, con el Cuerpo de Cristo, por el cual
vamos a Dios y por el cual, Él, nuestro Dios nos viene a nosotros.
Tenemos que abrirnos a una mayor conversión, a un cambio cada vez más profundo del corazón, a una escucha más profunda a lo que Jesús nos pide: "Señor, ¿qué quieres que haga, qué es lo que quieres que sea?" Y, lo que necesitamos, debido a nuestro compromiso con el Cuerpo de Cristo, es encontrar la reconciliación total, con Dios y con todas aquellas personas que entran en nuestras vidas.
Nuestra segunda respuesta es la comprensión de que nuestro papel no es diferente al de Juan el
Bautista. Como él, cada uno de nosotros tiene una misión de comunicar el Espíritu de Cristo y su mensaje de esperanza, el amor, la libertad y la paz a los demás. Para ayudar a las personas a
llenar sus valles y a suavizar sus caminos ásperos. Algunas palabras de afirmación y aliento pueden hacer maravillas – un cristiano alegre es un testigo real de la alegría de la Navidad.

St. John Chrysostom Church Christmas Toy Drive
December 5 to December 20, 2015 Our Annual Toy Drive for needy children in the area begins Saturday, December 5 and ends on Sunday, December 20. Each year we provide toys and gifts. Please support our drive by placing an unwrapped toy or gift in the collection box located in the sanctuary of the church when the drive begins. Or you may make a contribution by cash or check and bring it to the rectory and we can buy the toy.
Recommended gifts include games, dolls, plush stuffed animals, books, puzzles, educational toys, and sporting goods (PLEASE no violent toys).
We accept individual gifts, office collections, and cash donations. Ages of children are from infants to age 18.

Iglesia de San Juan Crisóstomo Colecta de Juguetes para la Navidad
Diciembre 5 al 20, 2015 Nuestra Colecta Anual de Juguetes para los niños necesitados de la zona comienza el sábado, 5 de diciembre y termina el domingo, 20 de diciembre Cada año proporcionamos juguetes y regalos. Por favor, apoyen nuestra campaña colocando un juguete o regalo (sin papel de regalo) en la caja morada ubicado en el santuario de la iglesia cuando se inicia la campaña. O puede hacer una donación en efectivo o cheque y llevarla a la rectoría y podemos comprar el juguete.
Los regalos recomendados incluyen juegos, muñecas, animales de peluche de felpa, libros, rompecabezas, juguetes educativos, y artículos deportivos (por favor, no hay juguetes violentos).
Aceptamos regalos individuales, colecciones de oficina, y donaciones en efectivo. Las edades de los niños son desde bebés hasta los 18 años.

Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
The call of Jesus pushes us to never stop at the surface of things, especially when we are dealing with a
person. We are called to look beyond, to focus on the heart, and to see how much generosity everyone is
capable. No one can be excluded from the mercy of God; – the Church is the house that welcomes all
and refuses no one. Her doors remain wide open, so that those who are touched by grace can find the
certainty of forgiveness. The greater the sin, so much the greater must be the love that the Church
expresses to those who convert.
Dear brothers and sisters … how can the Church make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy? It is
journey that begins with a spiritual conversion. For this reason, I have decided to call an extraordinary
Holy Year of Mercy. We want to live this Year in the light of the Lord’s words: ‘Be merciful, just as your
Father is merciful. (cf. Lk 6:36)’ “---the words of Pope Francis
La llamada de Jesús nos empuja a no dejar nunca en la superficie las cosas, sobre todo cuando se trata de
una persona. Estamos llamados a mirar más allá, para centrarse en el corazón, y ver de cuánta
generosidad todo el mundo es capaz. Nadie puede ser excluido de la misericordia de Dios; - la Iglesia es
la casa que acoge a todos y no se niega a nadie. Sus puertas se permanecen abiertas, para que los que
son impulsados por la gracia puedan encontrar la certeza del perdón. Cuanto mayor es el pecado, tanto
mayor sea el amor que la Iglesia expresa a aquellos que se convierten.
Queridos hermanos y hermanas... ¿cómo puede aclarar la Iglesia su misión de ser testigo de la
misericordia. Es el viaje que comienza con una conversión espiritual. Por esta razón, he decidido convocar
un Año Santo extraordinario de la Misericordia. Queremos vivir este Año a la luz de las palabras del Señor:
"Sean misericordiosos, como su Padre es misericordioso. (cf. Lc 6:36)” --- las palabras de Francisco

Sacramento de la Reconciliación y La Hora Santa El Adviento es un tiempo de preparación que dirige nuestros corazones y mentes a la segunda venida de Cristo al encontrar su nacimiento en la Navidad. Durante esta temporada, los sacerdotes están ayudando a traerles en una mayor intimidad con el Señor, ofreciendo una Hora Santa semanal con las Confesiones. Este sacramento es un regalo que nos ha dado Jesús para que podamos renovar nuestra fe, reavivar nuestra relación con Dios y recibir su perdón y el amor curativo todos los sábados desde las 15:45-16:45. Así que vengan y retornen a esta fuente increíble de la gracia, la misericordia y la sanación de Dios. Renovémonos la cara de nuestra parroquia al encontrarnos con el perdón de Dios durante el Año Santo de la Misericordia.
Sacrament of Reconciliation & Holy Hour Advent is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming by
encountering His birth on Christmas. During this Season, the priests are helping to bring you into greater intimacy with Our LORD by offering a weekly Holy Hour with Confessions. This Sacrament
is a gift given to us by Jesus so we can renew our faith, rekindle our relationship with God, and receive His forgiveness and healing love Every Saturday from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. So come and
return to this incredible source of God’s grace, mercy, and healing. Let us renew the face of our parish as we encounter God’s forgiveness during the Holy Year of Mercy.

Advent is a special time of preparation for the Coming of the Messiah.
We are called to simplify our lives by virtue of greater prayer and fasting. In this spirit, the
sanctuaries both upstairs and downstairs will not contain flowers or other decorations.
The sole exception will be for the Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
