    Software license and system requirements

    Software licensing

    Please read the Software End User License Agreementdisplayed on your screen when installing Cubase. Byinstalling the software you are declaring yourself to be inagreement with the conditions in the contract.

    Installation and activation

    Installation

    Depending on your system, the Cubase Start Centerprogram on the DVD may start automatically. If no interactivestart menu appears, view the contents on the DVD or thedownloaded installation folder and double-click the file StartCenter under Windows or Start Center on a Maccomputer. From here you can start the installation of Cubaseand browse through the additional options and information.

    By the way, Cubase does not overwrite any previouslyinstalled versions.

    License activation Elements 7

    The Cubase Elements 7 installation process automaticallycreates an empty Soft-eLicenser. The permanent license forthe product needs to be manually activated (internetconnection required) using the activation code found on theEssential Product License Information Sheet included in theproduct box.

    If Cubase Elements is bought as a download version fromthe Steinberg Online Shop, the activation code will be sentvia email.

    License activation AI 7 / LE 7The Cubase AI 7 / LE 7 installation process automaticallycreates a Soft-eLicenser with a temporary Cubase license.The permanent license for the product needs to be manuallyactivated (internet connection required).

    With the hardware you purchased, you received a DownloadAccess Code (a 25-digit code, printed typically on aseparate sheet of paper or in the product manual). To obtainyour permanent license, please go to the MySteinberg area

    of the Steinberg website to create a MySteinberg account.

    After that, please enter the Download Access Code toreceive a permanent license and to download the software incase your hardware does not include a dedicated Cubaseinstallation DVD.

    Steinberg Soft-eLicenser

    The Soft-eLicenser authorization is also covered in detail inthe Quick Start Manual PDF, which can be found on the DVDor downloaded installation folder in the AdditionalContent/QuickStart folder.

    Should you experience any difficulties with your Soft-eLicenser, go to the Additional Content/Copy ProtectionDriver folder on the DVD or the downloaded installationfolder and double-click the included installation setup file.Alternatively, you can download the latest version of thissoftware at:

    First Cubase start up

    The first time you start Cubase it may take a while for theloading process to complete. Cubase needs to gather allcomponents and plug-ins you may have installed.Subsequent starts of the application will be much faster afterthat.

    DAW key command presets

    Cubase is installed with key command presets for Pro Tools,

    Logic and Sonar. These presets map common keycommands used on these DAWs to corresponding Cubasefunctions.

    Additional technical information

    Using PowerPC plug-ins on OS X 10.7 / 10.8 systems

    Please note that since the release of OS X 10.7 the OScomponent Rosetta is no longer available from Apple.Therefore PowerPC plug-ins can no longer be used inCubase.

    Using the Cubase 64-bit version

    Under OS X 10.7 / 10.8:

    Cubase will start as 32-bit application by default. If you wantto start Cubase as 64-bit version, select the Cubaseapplication icon and then choose Get Info from the contextmenu. In the Get Info window un-check Open in 32-bitmode.

    When using Cubase in 64-bit mode, the VST Bridge allows

    you to load Intel-compiled 32-bit VST 2.4 plug-ins only. VST3 32-bit plug-ins are not supported.

    Under Windows 7 / Windows 8 64-bit:

    Users of Windows 7 / Windows 8 64-bit editions have thechoice of installing either the 32-bit version and/or the native

    64-bit version. Both versions can also be installed in parallel.When working with the 64-bit version of Cubase, you mayencounter issues with third-party plug-ins if they are not incompliance with the User Account Control (UAC) feature ofWindows. Plug-ins affected by this are e.g. based on theSynthEdit audio plug-in creator. In such cases, please try tostart Cubase with administrator privileges.

    The 64-bit version of Cubase contains the VST Bridge,which allows you to run VST 2.4 plug-ins and instruments, iftheyre not available in 64-bit format.

    Please note that VST 3 plug-ins in 32-bit ont be

    avai lable using the 64-bit version of Cubase. 32-bit plug-ins

    based on Waves Wavesh ell are not supported.

    Notes about using SoundCloudWhen you upload your mixes from Cubase to yourSoundCloud account, your web browser opens automaticallyand the SoundCloud website prompts you to connectCubase to your SoundCloud account. Once you haveconfirmed this connection, it will be valid for several hours, soyou do not need to re-connect Cubase with every otherupload.

    To disable the connection between Cubase and yourSoundCloud account, log into SoundCloud and click onSettings->Connections->Revoke access button.

    Please note that the eb bro ser Opera is not

    supported for uploading audio material from Cubase to

    SoundCloud.
