V16.2

New Features

Model Viewer

Surface Simplification o Surface simplification tools have been added to help improve import and

processing speeds. This is useful for when dealing with very large surfaces o Users can control the level of simplification in the settings

Improved Surface Representation o A new settings control allows for the exact triangle edges to be used to

represent the surface – this will give a true representation of all features in the model viewer. Users can toggle between a point and edge computation method in the Viewer Settings.

Point Cloud Support

o Model Viewer now supports Point Clouds (ASCII x,y,z format files) o View point clouds, select and delete areas o Create a surface from point cloud data

Combined Surface Export

o The combined surface in Model Viewer can now be exported back to the

drawing as a separate surface (via the Outputs tab).

Assign Material to Triangle o This command now works on all visible design models. Previously, this

command only worked on with the primary design surface.

Design Styles Editor o Added option to quickly override unassigned code combinations with a

material o Improved interface. Easy to append codes from a design model. Tables can

be sorted by selecting the column header.

Material Groups o Added option to delete a material group

Toggle Display o Form is now sizable

Drape Image (aerial photo) o Image quality improved

Roads

Create/Edit IP Command - VGE o A k value can now be used in the Create/Edit IP command to set a vertical

curve length that matches the k value. Vertical curve length is maintained during any edits.

New Chainage List for Cross Section Plotting o When plotting cross sections, users can elect to apply a Chainage List for

establishing the sections to plot. This is intended to be a replacement to the current Selected Sections and be applied to all outputs in a future update.

The new list has the following improvements: You can easily create named lists „globally‟ so they are available in

new projects Named lists can be applied to a String and then edited – the edits are

for that string The list contains fundamental controls for:

Regular spacings

Horizontal Geometry points (in detail)

Vertical Geometry points (in detail)

Superelevation

User added chainages Note: Use layers, kerb start/end, intersections are not auto included

in the list and would require manual user insertion

Volumes (AutoCAD and BricsCAD customers) o Volume surface creation is now available from the Surface Volumes

command o Volume surfaces are able to be rendered with height shading for cut/fill and

otherwise presented as per any surface

USA Customers o New Profile Plotting Engine

A new plotting engine has been developed for USA style plot outputs. Label styles can be applied to the vertical geometry for display on the profiles rather than in bands.

This new methodology represents the framework for the upcoming long section plot engine for Australian and international customers.

o New Station/Chainage List Set up named lists for controlling what stations/chainages are

included in plot outputs. See above „New Chainage List for Cross Section Plotting‟ for details

The named list applies to profile view plotting, section view plotting and the Multi String label command

Pipes

o A new command has been added to apply the „direction‟ arrows on the pipes

to point in the downstream direction of the pipe. Currently these arrows always point toward the network outlet.

o The „legacy‟ plan labels for labelling pipes and house connections have been consolidated into a split dropdown on the ribbon

V16.2

Resolved Issues

General

Label styles now store text sizes to 3 decimal places.

Label grip edits could be ignored when the drawing was closed and reopened.

The Copy Label Styles command only did a partial copy of styles to a drawing

Surfaces

CAD output of contours on a certain colour, could revert back to another colour when edits were made in the Surface Manager. The output contour line colour is set by the Contour Labels, if the contour labels and contour lines are on the same layer.

It was possible to edit a surface and have those edits/inputs applied to a different surface, when changing between surfaces in the Surface Manager form

Roads

The default cover applied to drainage pipes was being incorrectly applied – the pipe cover was being calculated twice in certain circumstances.

Cross Section Plot command o CSD Model surface now used the selected design Codes for establishing

offsets – previously it treated the included surface as any other surface (with TIN grade breaks being used for offsets

o Plot to File could result in an error o Added a tick box to use the preview chainage list in the actual chainage

range for plotting (previously it always plotted full extents) o Fixed a bug with using alignments for the left/right offset – it was incorrectly

assigning the calculated alignment offsets to cross sections. o Linetype generation is now turned on – polylines for the surface elevations

will have continuous linetype along the length of the polylines.

Selected Sections o When creating a Road, Chainage By Layer can be used to include additional

section sampling. This was not being included in the plotted section outputs for the new cross section plotting.

When superelevation was applied with road widening and shoulder rotations were also specified, the widening was being applied to both the road pavement and the road shoulders.

When plotting long sections and showing the horizontal geometry, the bearing was incorrectly reported when a direction change was made in the alignment that did not include a horizontal curve

An issue with the roundabout form crashing when enquiring objects has been resolved.

Pipes

Service Pipes/Pits with Levels has been rewritten to address the following issues: o The input Depth to Invert/Obvert might not be consistently applied along the

length of the selected polyline for pipe inverts o Obvert Level input was incorrectly assigning pipe elevations

When a pit is inserted on a Service Obstruction network in the VGE, it now places the pit and pipe relative to the surface

The Service Pipes/Pits command now sets pipe covers/depths using the surface selected – previously it defaulted to use the Active Drawing Settings surface.

House connections did not provide updated information regarding the pipe cover or slope when viewed in the VGE

Deleted house connections could be shown on the long section outputs

Manually edited house connection levels were not being updated on the pipes VGE

Known Issues

Roads

The default cover applied to drainage pipes was being incorrectly applied – the pipe cover was being calculated twice in certain circumstances.

Pipes

If a large pipe diameter is used, and the next downstream pipe is a small diameter, the HGL in the large pipe may default to show at the top of the pipe if the smaller downstream pipe Mannings capacity does not exceed the Flow

Surfaces

CAD output of contours on a certain colour, can revert back to another colour when edits are made in the Surface Manager. Output linework is set to Bylayer.

Appendix – Model Viewer Help Information

Important Information about the Base Surface The Base Surface in Model Viewer was developed to provide the user with a general representation of the existing terrain - this surface is not an accurate representation of the existing surface specified. The software will re-triangulate the existing surface using the triangle points that make up the existing surface. The only boundaries (hide boundaries) added to the Base Surface are taken from the extents of the design surfaces specified when the Trim Base option is ticked on. At this stage, we have not developed a “paste surface” routine in the software. This is planned for next year. A „paste surface‟ routine would correctly split the triangles of the existing surface data using the extents of the design surfaces and therefore respect the existing triangulation. So in order to more accurately represent this surface, the user could either add more points to the existing surface or add more strings to the design surface, whereby levels of the string are matched to the existing surface. Run Model Viewer Locally (from –DATA folder) By default, all Model Viewer settings are accessed/stored in the Visualisation folder located in the common-10 location. C:\ProgramData\CSS\ARD\Common\common-10\Visualisation This means that styles created or textures added to Model Viewer are stored in the location above and only accessible to the user on that machine. If one of these styles is edited, than all other projects which use that style could be affected. By running the Run Local command, all settings for Model Viewer are stored in the –DATA folder location for the project and therefore become independent. All 3d models and aerial images will also be placed in this location. This means that by running this command, users can share their project with other users (or to the technical support team) and the styles and textures as specified by the originally designer will be used. Model Viewer Corruption (running the Reset command) If for whatever reason data in Model Viewer becomes corrupted, the user can run the Reset command, which is available in the Utilities tab found in the Viewer Settings. Restart Model Viewer after doing this.

** Warning ** – All data (including 3d models) will be removed from the project. Welcome Screen Videos (for BriscCAD users)

BricsCAD users may not be able to watch some videos within the Welcome Screen. If this is the case, hold down shift and select the video link (for the blog entry or YouTube) to open in a new IE window – this should allow you to watch the video. Video Output (for BriscCAD users) BricsCAD users may not be able to record videos from Model Viewer, if this is the case than the following addition to the bricscad.exe.config file will need to be made. This file is found in the directory C:\Program Files\Bricsys\BricsCAD V15 en_US. Add the following to the file inside the <configuration> tag. <runtime> <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false"/> </runtime> Video output formats

Page 11: Readme for Civil Site Design for Civil 3D, AutoCAD and ... · PDF fileReadme for Civil Site Design for Civil 3D, AutoCAD and BricsCAD ... establishing the sections to plot. ... Readme

V16.2

Model Viewer only supports the output of AVI files. However, the free program Handbrake can be used to convert or compress the file outputted by Model Viewer. Download Handbrake - https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Recording video

When recording a video in Model Viewer, ensure that the Model Viewer window is left as is and no other windows are moved over this location. The video is created by taking screenshots and other windows may appear in the final video if moved within the extents of the Model Viewer window. It is recommended you don‟t use your computer whilst the record is in progress. Assign Materials to Triangle

This command may not work properly when the triangle selected has a material applied that is transparent. Turn off transparency from the Material Groups command prior to running this command. Vertical Exaggeration & 3d Models

It is not recommended that 3d models are added whilst a vertical exaggeration is set to Model Viewer. This can affect how levels are set to the object when the „drape elevation‟ option is used. Sight Distance In this version, the Sight Distance command will not take into account 3d models added to Model Viewer. This feature will be added in a future release of the software. Sight Distance Updating As long as the Sight Distance tab is opened on the ribbon, Model Viewer will update the sight distance check after refreshing Model Viewer. Aerial image drape supported formats Common image formats such as bmp, png, and gif are currently supported in Model Viewer. ECW files are not currently supported. If you wish to use an ECW file, than ER Mapper can be used to convert the

ECW to a JPG. ER Mapper - http://erdas-er-mapper.software.informer.com/download/ Rotation of image for aerial image drape

In this version, the software only supports rotation of the image up to 180 degrees. If it is required to rotate the image further, than it is suggested to flip the image using a program such as paint.net and re-importing into CAD. What is Trim Base? If Trim Base is checked on, than the extents of the surface specified will be used as a hide boundary on the Base Surface. My design surface is not triangulating correctly and applying the correct materials?

This can occur when the last code on your design cross section is matched to the existing surface (at the same location as the batter). To resolve this, raise this code by 10mm My design surface is not trimming the base surface properly?

If the design surface is not trimming the base surface correctly, then there may be an issue with your design surface boundary. The best option to resolve this issue is to build your design surface using Model Builder and remove triangles using either CSD boundaries or by using the Delete Edge

command. Does anyone actually read readme’s? I run Model Viewer from the ribbon, but the window does not display?

General

Labels o New Labelling tools have been introduced.

Users can establish Label Styles to manage display of labels for different objects. Labels can consist of any combination of blocks, text objects and polyline objects. Grip edit of objects within the label group is fully supported, and text can be oriented relative to any line in the label style. Depending on the label, grip edit relocation of the label marker is also supported. You can now create Label Styles and generate Labels for the following objects:

o In Plan: Surface Labels: this includes spot elevations and slope direction

labels Elevations on Polyline: displays elevation and other information at

the vertices of a polyline Chainage (Station) at Polyline: displays chainage (station)

information for an alignment at a polyline vertex – the text position can be moved along the polyline and oriented relative to the polyline.

Pipe Network labels: display pit and pipe information on plan House Connection Labels: display house connection information on

plan

o Labels can be access from the General Ribbon Tab, Roads Ribbon tab and Pipes Ribbon tab.

o AutoCAD and BricsCAD users will have direct menu/ribbon access to the following additional label types

Multi String – labels codes in plan along a String VC Labels – labels vertical geometry on plan, along an alignment Distance – labels distances along polyline tangents

V16.2

Enhanced Features

Roads

Model Builder and Auto Model o Previously, including Auto Model created a trimmed model of all roads, kerb

returns, cul-des-sacs, knuckles and roundabouts, from which you could then append additional string objects and edit the model. If Auto Model changed, with inclusion of new strings or changes to kerb return radii, the entries in the Model Builder form did not update. Now, when you reopen your Model it will update all Auto Model entries.

Resolved Issues

Roads

The Reference Line command incorrectly calculated crossfalls when the Crossfall from Table option was selected

Model builder didn‟t correctly trim intersections that included roundabouts, when users opted to start with the automatic road model

Model builder included LBAT and RBAT codes on strings that did not have templates assigned, with these two codes set with an elevation of zero. These codes are now not included

When you edited a String in the Multi Setout form, it would reset the Point Number and Order columns back to zero.

The NSW Super Tables allow for a centreline offset to be included – this was not being applied.

Pipes

House connections now display on the Vertical Grading Editor – in the previous version the linework of the house connection did not display

In the Pipe Properties, the Level Adjustment was not being applied when From Surface was selected for the pit top lid level

The Plot to File option now includes more control over the output .dwg – previously the software built a .dwg using ACAD.dwt as the originating drawing

Page 19: Readme for Civil Site Design for Civil 3D, AutoCAD and ... · PDF fileReadme for Civil Site Design for Civil 3D, AutoCAD and BricsCAD ... establishing the sections to plot. ... Readme

V16.2

Known Issues

The Plot to File option may use ACAD.dwt as the originating drawing when creating output files. We are still working on resolving this. Users impacted by this would need to set the Units of the drawing and type ADC at the command line to transfer data from a „good‟ drawing/template to the output drawing.

Labelling o If using a text Anchor to Symbol control, the symbol that is being anchored

must be above the text in the list and flagged to be an anchor for text o Changing label styles in the Surface Label Styles form, then using Move

Label, will result in an apparent duplication of labels using the old and new style. Click on Add/Update labels to restore the labels correctly

Grading o The new Volumes tool will not correctly describe grading volumes. Use the

Civil 3D volume tools or the Advanced Road Design Surface Volumes command, or the Volumes button on the Grading form

o Grading Strings are not output to long and cross section outputs in the Auto Plot routine

o Grading will trim between two adjoining sections only – it will not resolve grading between non-adjacent lines without overlapping

When creating a kerb return, there is an option to set the Connection Point Code. This can only be applied at the time of creating the kerb return – changing it later will not update the kerb connection. The kerb return would need to be deleted and recreated using the Delete button on the kerb return form.

Adding a curve to a service pipe that results in intersecting of a sewer or drainage network twice, will not register any intersections/clashes.

In Advanced Road Design for BricsCAD, ensure MTFLAGS (for multi-threading), is turned OFF. Some users have experienced the software crashing when this system variable is turned on.

When assigning Sewer Manhole symbols, it is possible to automatically assign the symbol from one Pit Type to the next selected Pit Type, if that second Pit Type did not already have a symbol actively defined. Once the symbol is set by the user, it does not get edited when toggling between Pit Types.

If curved pipes are given a negative radius they will not update display on road long and cross sections, even if they are subsequently deleted. First, change the radius value on curved pipes to a positive value, then edit/delete as appropriate.

Tables (BricsCAD Customers Only)

If you cannot create BricsCAD tables from the Advanced Road Design table output commands, there is an option to revert to standard CAD entity tables. The process is:

Open the Active Drawing Settings > Styles Tab

Tick on the option „Draw Tables as Lines and Text‟ When you select table output, the pick list of available table styles will change to match with the ARD Table Styles you have set up.

About Editing the BricsCAD Table output – ARD Table Styles

Users can edit the table output by opening the file ardtablestyles.txt in the ARD Settings folder – this table sets out the text font, text heights (and row heights) for the title, headings and data rows. Edit in Notepad as required: A view of a sample file is below for your reference and to „see‟ the format of the file
