The cost of diet-related diseases and conditions (diabetes, heart disease, obesity, etc.) is on the rise, yet registered dietitian (RD) administered Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is underutilized.
More than 14 million Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for MNT, yet less than 2.5% of patients utilized it in 2012.

Medical Nutrition Therapy
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is a therapeutic approach to treating medical conditions and their associated symptoms via the use of a specifically tailored diet devised and monitored by a registered dietitian (RD). The diet is based upon the patient's medical, psychosocial, and dietary history.
Three years of MNT is reimbursable by Medicare (CPT or HCPCS: 97802 & 97803 )
