Paul White and Jordan Noble-Smith, with Mel Norman GA Annual Conference 2009
Aims of the workshop
• To suggest possible teaching strategies within specific themes
• To share ideas for cross – curricular links
Real Geography so far
On your post-it note list any links you have made with any other subjects.
For example:A small link between citizenship and development to A significant whole school input towards global awareness day to A collapsed Humanities timetable for year 7
Why across curriculums?
• Embedded within the new Key Stage 3 curriculum:• “help make learning real and relevant”
(QCA 2008, Cross Curriculum Dimensions, a planning guide for schools)• 7 dimensions: identity & cultural diversity; healthy
lifestyles; community participation; enterprise; global dimension & sustainable development; technology and the media; creativity and critical thinking.
• Engaging students from lesson to lesson, linking to their lived reality
• Raising the profile of geography across the school
