Utility Incentives for Off-Peak Loads
• Utilities are providing financial incentives to shift loads to off-peak
• Much less expensive to provide demand reduction incentive than bring on high cost, high carbon incremental power plant
• Dynamically linked IT loads present opportunities
• May reduce carbon footprintdue to fuel source

Summary
• Everything is on the IT network today, payroll, supply chain, factory floor; except facilities and if you treated facilities as a node on the IT network, companies like IBM and Eaton would solve issues completely different than Westinghouse and Honeywell with proprietary protocols (Uhlman, 2006)
• Ability to link IT, Facilities and Utilities to optimize energy consumption while reducing energy costs, carbon footprints and meeting the business objectives
• Technology is not the limiting factor, but rather organizationalbehavior
