The fundamentals of warehousing never change, but what happens outside the four walls can have a dramatic impact on the expectations for how those functions are executed inside.

Economic downturn forces companies to focus on cost cutting and reducing expenses. A big part of the cost in a warehouse is driven or even caused by its (lack off) software. Moving from interfaced logistics to integrated logistics decreases the complexity of your IT, training of staff and day to day maintenance having a direct impact and reducing the cost of your warehouse operation.

Dynamics Software Real-Time Warehouse Management enables a completely paperless warehouse and sup-ports all your logistics processes. Part of the Dynamics ERP Productivity Solution, it is based on WMS I/II which results in a simple and easy to implement system.

• Inventory levels are always actual and consistent due to real-time data

• Embedded rich mobile client, streamlining the daily process of the warehouse

• More efficient time management through determination of optimal storage location and re-configuration of different warehouse tasks

• Improvement of order fulfillment rates, accuracy and cycle times resulting in fewer returned items, unpaid invoices and charge backs

MANAGING OPERATION & THE WORKFORCEOne of the major characteristics of the Real-Time Warehouse Management from Dynamics Software is the offering of mature WMS-functionality and the complete integration with Microsoft Dynamics® AX.

As a separate WMS system interfaced with Microsoft Dynamics AX is no longer required, users can take advan-tage of the benefits offered by integrated systems: actual, accurate and reliable data stored and edited in one data-base.

Real-Time Warehouse Management is 100% integrated Microsoft Dynamics AX warehouse management system enabling paperless operations in all logistics processes. Logistics processes in the warehouse can be controlled via handheld or reach truck terminals. Logistics trans-actions are registered through scanning of barcodes of items, packaging and locations.

SUPPORT OF ALL WAREHOUSE PROCESSES

BARCODES:Crucial for today’s warehousing is the extensive possibil-ity to print barcode labels for items, pallets and packaging.

Real-Time Warehouse Management supports a number of standard barcode labels (EAN-128 or Odette standard and more), and also enables customers to create and use any label required.

Figure 1: Pallet Label EAN 128

GOODS RECEIPT:Users can receive goods for purchase orders or transfer orders. During the receiving process the user can easily follow the steps as presented in the screens to complete the receiving process. After receiving, the products are available from an inventory point of view and directly vis-ible for the rest of the organization.

Figure 2: Mobile device – item arrival process

During the receiving process the received goods can be handed over for put away to ensure efficiency and avoid a packed and crowded inbound dock.

PUT AWAY STORAGE:After receiving of the goods, the system will create tasks to store the received goods into the warehouse.

The system is able to define separate bulk and pick-up locations. Real-Time Warehouse Management will define the best available storage location based on several fixed criteria such as physical dimensions, weight and danger-ous goods classifications as well as user defined criteria. Per warehouse item combination you can define three priorities for storage taking into consideration the ware-house zone, areas and locations.

Figure 3: Extended inbound rules

In addition to the above rules, Real-Time Warehouse Management can also propose a location based on exist-ing inventory.

REPLENISHMENT, INVENTORY MOVEMENTS:Real-Time Warehouse Management uses automatically generated tasks for movements and replenishments from bulk storage locations to the picking locations. These tasks are created with intelligence in order to reach the service delivery levels with the customers.

In addition to mobilizing the warehouse workforce, Real-Time Warehouse Management also adds additional func-tionality to standard AX WMS I/II in the area of optimized movements, location assignment, counting and picking.

Figure 4: Report pallet transport picking

COUNTING:Warehouse workers can use the item count option to complete item counts. The counts can be initiated from Dynamics AX (counting journal) or from the handheld device. In both cases the journal will be updated with the counting information. Posting of the counting journals will always take place from within AX. In addition to counting in the warehouse, Real-Time Warehouse Management also supports retail counting offering you the ability to count the inventory in the retail stores.

ORDER PICKING:Real-Time Warehouse Management offers extensive sup-port for the order picking process, both for sales orders as well as for production orders. Support for optimization of picking routes, parallel picking of multiple orders and pick-ing of order lines until shipment is complete is available.

By default, the pick routes are sequenced by the system using location based optimizations. The warehouse work-ers can also review the pick list and deviate from the pro-posed list i.e. when picking needs to be based on weight or volume.

OUTBOUND MOVEMENTS & SHIPPING:Real-Time Warehouse Management enables you to pre-pare outgoing shipments including optimized packing and shipment follow up using the shipment cockpit.

Besides controlling the order picking teams, it is also pos-sible to instruct them and send specific instructions or information like packaging advisements or other workflow actions (i.e. assembly).

Printing of packing and freight slips and routing the ship-ments to the right dock shelter for truck loading is fully supported. Printing of the labels can be done at the end of the process or even in the midst of the process depending on the setup and location of your label printers. Meet cus-tomer specific and outbound transportation requirements with product identification options, load documentation, parcel manifesting support, and bill of loading informa-tion.

SHIPMENT COCKPIT:Real-Time Warehouse Management offers insight into the quantity of the work in progress and the required capacity in order to scale up or scale down resources in time. Based on expected number of pick/bulk lines, the real number of pick/bulk lines and resource information such as number of employees, average pick/movement speeds, the system can calculate whether the shipment will be completed at the right time helping you to determine priorities and increasing customer satisfaction.
