Types of LearningOur learning solutions come in all shapes and sizes to suit a range of job roles and abilities. Some are shorter than others, some you’ll have to take regardless of your role and others are designed to take your career to new heights.

We’ve divided our learning solutions into fi ve sections:

Core Core is the foundation to getting your role off to a great start, understanding the business you work for and how you operate within it. Within the fi rst few months of your new role you will have completed the learning within the core section.

Management DevelopmentIf people management is a key part of your role we have four programmes from Supervision and above to support developing your essential people management skills.

ElectivesDepending on your role/sector, you may need to take this training, and/or a development choice in your current role. It’s designed to address any gaps in your current competencies.

Technical DevelopmentThis specifi c, technical training is here to support your development through your career pathway, focusing on specialist areas of expertise, suchas culinary and support services.

Talent DevelopmentThis helps to prepare you for a role at the next level, and is designed for those who’ve been identifi ed as having the potential to move on in their career path.

In your operational role you help keep our business running smoothly. You may manage single-site, smaller multi-site or a department in a large contract and so effectively you are in charge of a business. People and client management, service delivery and ensuring profi tability are central elements of your role.

In a central functions role you may lead, coach and support a number of team leaders or a large team. Responsible for delivering a key

service, process or activity to the business and have signifi cant professional experience.

In a sector-operational role, you manage large strategic client relationships. This may be on a single large site, or you may run a multi-location business. Either way, you’re accountable for people management, fi nancial results, business development, client retention and setting the company culture on how things are done around here.

In a central functions role you may lead a small to medium-sized team – these teams may be fi eld or offi ce-based.

You’re probably responsible for a large budget and have a signifi cant input to delivering the functional strategy. You may not necessarily manage a team, but could work as a specialist or have a signifi cant project-based role.

You have a range of relevant learning solutions specifi cally for you, which are designed to support your professional skills and management development.

I am really interested in gaining aqualifi cation, who should I contact?We offer a wide range of qualifi cation solutions including apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are a framework of qualifi cations, designed to demonstrate competence, knowledge and understanding within your chosen sector as well as equipping you with functional English, maths and ICT (where applicable) skills to support your personal and career development.

If you want to apply for an apprenticeship or are interested in undertaking a qualifi cation, please complete and return the nomination form which can be found on the Technical Development Pathways page on the L&D intranet.

There are courses on the Learning Portal that I really like the sound of but I can’t seem to access. All the courses in the Learning Portal are aligned to your current job title (SAP Job Key) in the relevant payroll system and as outlined in this guide.

How do I book a course?After you’ve had a great conversation with your line manager and discussed your development plan, visit our L&D intranet and use the course booking form. If it is an elective that you wish to book on, have a look at our classroom course dates and decide which course you wish to attend before completing the form.

What if the training that I need isnot listed in the L&D guide?Whilst we have aimed to provide the learning solution for most business development needs, there will be other training that you might require. We have a long list of preferred suppliers for many training courses not listed in the guide, and our customer service team can support you with more bespoke training needs.

I would really like to nominate one of my team members for a Talent Development programme. What do I need to do?

If it is a frontline team member looking to complete the Supervisor Passport, the individual should have achieved a ‘High Performer’ in their last Performance and Development Review. Complete the Supervisor Passport order form on the intranet. Orders are taken all year round.

For all other development programmes the individual should be rated as ‘High Potential’

If your current SAP Job Key is incorrect, your line manager will need to amend this in Nexus, OLLM, SAP or liaise directly with Payroll. The various connected systems including the Learning Portal will then be updated.

What’s the difference betweenAccelerate and Great Team Leading?Accelerate is a talent development programme so it is aimed at current supervisors who have been identifi ed as High Performers and who are keen to progress to the next level in their career. It is has been developed to get them ready for that next step into management. Great Team Leading is for Supervisors who need to develop their skills, knowledge and competence to enable them to perform in their current role.

I am struggling to login to the Learning Portal.Please ensure you are using the correct employee number. This is available on your most recent payslip or by asking your line manager, and is usually an 8 digit number. Some useful points are:

1. Colleagues paid through SMART usually have an ERN number which is preceded with 93.

2. VSG colleagues usually have a pin number preceded with 430.

3. If your employee number is preceded with a zero, this must also be used.

I have forgotten my Learning Portal password.If you have logged in previously but have now forgotten your password, you can use the ‘Password Hint’ to jog your memory as to what your password is.

How can I reset my password in the Learning Portal?

Click the ‘Reset Password’ button on the login page, you will then be asked for your 8 digit employee number.

You will receive a confi rmation email containing further instructions. Please note, your email address must be up to date against your Learning Portal account or you will not receive the required emails.

I have not received any confi rmation emails!The email address associated with your Learning Portal account may be either incorrect or out of date or the emails may be within your junk email folder.

It is important that you ensure the email address you use within the Learning Portal is always up to date and you have access to this email account.

I think the courses I have available to me are incorrect in the Learning Portal!Courses in the Learning Portal are offered to colleagues based on their current job title in Nexus, OLLM, SMART or SAP.

If your job title is incorrect or out of date you will need to get your line manager to correct and update the job title in Nexus, OLLM, SMART or SAP. The changes will be fed through to the Learning Portal and the relevant courses made available over the following weekend.

How do I know which courses areCore in the Learning Portal?Core courses have a deadline next to them in the ‘Home’ page and the ‘My Learning’ page. All other courses are optional and designed to support your personal development.

How do I know when a course needsrenewing in the Learning Portal?When you initially complete a course it will move to the ‘My Completed’ section of the ‘My Learning’ page, you will notice that the completed course has a ‘renews from’ date at the side of it.

What happens with course renewals in the Learning Portal?The Learning Portal will clearly identify the date and time courses need renewing from. Once a renewal date has been reached, the course will move from the ‘My Completed Learning’ section to the ‘My Available Learning’ section ready for completion again.

How do I see the learning progress ofmy team in the Learning Portal?As long as you have the correct SAP Job Key you can view your team’s learning progress by logging into the Learning Portal using your own employee number. You will then have a tab entitled ‘My Team’ which offers two reports for viewing your team’s progress.

The ‘Individual Progress Report’ is ideal for viewing individual learners or seeing what learners have available, started and completed.

The ‘Team Progress Report’ is ideal for viewing a group of learners and their progress on different courses.

Both reports offer lots of fl exibility to view various different data by following the instructions on the page and using the fi lters.

I don’t appear to have access tothe ‘food’ related course in the Learning Portal!All you need to do is log into the Learning Portal and select ‘Yes’ to food handler when prompted initially or edit the information within the ‘My Profi le’ tab to ‘Yes’ for food handler. The relevant food related courses (based on your SAP Job Key) will then become available.

A number of courses are marked as‘closed’ in the Learning Portal, what does this mean?‘Closed’ courses are courses that have been previously completed but no longer available to you based on your SAP Job Key. If you believe the courses should be available, this is likely to be connected to an incorrect or amended job title in either Nexus, OLLM, SMART or SAP.

I need access to a course but theLearning Portal is saying I am not authorised for it!Courses that are relevant to your SAP Job Key will be displayed in the ‘My Available Learning’ section of the ‘Home’ page and ‘My Learning’ page.

There are courses in the ‘My Available Learning’ section of the LearningPortal that I don’t want there!Courses that are relevant to your SAP Job Key will be displayed in the ‘My Available Learning’ section of the ‘Home’ page and ‘My Learning’ page. Not all courses are Core and many of them are optional to support with your personal development.

These courses will remain in the ‘My Available Learning’ section and there is no business expectation to fully complete every course, only ones with a clear deadline next to them.

How do I print my team’scertifi cates in the Learning Portal?Learners can print off their own certifi cates as soon as they have fully completed a course. Click on ‘Certifi cate’ at the bottom of the page at any time to print it.

Managers can also print off their team’s certifi cates by logging into the Learning Portal and visiting the ‘My Team’ tab, then the ‘Individual Progress Report’. You can then type in the colleague’s employee number and view the learning progress and print certifi cates for any completed learning.
