We are honored by your presence and are looking forward to worshiping our great God together! If you were here last week you know we have just begun a new series on the Sermon on the Mount on Sunday mornings. Today, Dwight will talk to us about the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:1-12. I know we will all be blessed by the word today! What a wonderful Family Night we had last Sunday evening! The worship was powerful, the new Growth Groups were full of energy, and of course, the casseroles you brought were delicious. Over the course of the next 3 months (March, April, and May) you will be encouraged to meet together 3 times. To align with our 2020 theme, one of these meetings will hopefully be a service project your group can participate in together. We pray these groups are a blessing to you as you fellowship with and serve alongside your brothers and sisters at Sunset! When you pray, be sure to remember Ed and Sharon Hawkins. Sharon re- sponded to the invitation for prayer last Sunday morning regarding Ed’s health. He is doing better, but still has a long way to go to full recovery. Along with Ed, let’s be intentional about lifting up the many of our number who are currently experiencing a variety of health issues. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” (Rom. 15:13 ESV). CONTINUING PRAYER YOUTH AND FAMILY “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”

The youth and I are at our annual retreat and Psalm 119 verse 105 is our theme. It’s just like the song and the focus is on the word of God. Like one of our youth said in class Wednesday, ‘without the word, we’re lost walking in darkness’!

Bibles are so accessible. Most of us have several between our book shelves and our apps, we could be reading the scriptures within seconds. So, why aren’t we? My point isn’t to make us feel bad because we don’t read our Bibles enough, but rather to encourage you with a couple of ideas.

In the first century, Christians came together to hear the word of God read, then they told and retold and shared that message over and over throughout the week to their families, their friends, their neighbors, and their coworkers. They were living out Deuteronomy 6:4-9. The word of God was living in them when they didn’t have a Bible or even a scroll to take home. They relied upon coming together in community to hear the scriptures read. We have so much access to it now it actually gets forgotten and buried under our thirst for entertainment.

During a recent interview, a survey by the Center for Bible Engagement was quoted to have found a surprising truth. They surveyed 40,000 people and found that reading their Bibles once a week had little impact. Two times – nothing. Three times – a tiny blip. Four times – a HUGE spike off the charts. Wow! So, if you struggle sitting down by yourself and reading through the Bible. Take HEART and find another way to consume it! Join a Bible Class, listen to an au-dio Bible, or share a verse on social media. Find some variety in the ways you consume it and then share it!
