-Reception Theory is the way individuals receive and interpret a text.
-The theory emphasizes the readers reception of a text and how individual circumstances, like gender, age and ethnicity all affect their reading.
-Stuart Hall is one of the main proponents of reception theory, his ideas are to do with the relationship between a text and its audience.
-A text is encoded by a producer, and decoded by the readers.
-Preferred reading is when producers use recognised codes and conventions which draw upon audiences expectations. Producers are able to position the audience and create agreements on what the text means.
