RULES & INFORMATION DRESS REHEARSAL, RECITAL WEEKEND,

COSTUMES & BACKSTAGE MOMS

Videotaping is Str ict ly Prohibited for ALL Recital Shows

Expression of Dance hires a videographer to record all shows and this video wil l be available for purchase at a reasonable cost. Order forms for recital videos are attached in this packet. Please Note: Parents and Guardians may videotape and/or photograph their children at DRESS REHEARSAL ONLY. However, we wil l str ictly reinforce come recital weekend that there is no videotaping with cell phones, cameras or video cameras permitted at the recitals. Using a device to videotape is very distracting to the dancers and to the audience around you. Guests attending the show wil l not appreciate bright cell phone l ight and/or video cameras blocking their view of their special performer. Ushers wil l ask you to stop videotaping and to take any cameras back to your car.

Recital Weekend Rules Students must either remain in their assigned dressing room or in the auditorium during the shows. Students are not permitted to roam around and must be accompanied by an adult at al l t imes. Students, parents, siblings and fr iends are not permitted to hang out in the hallway by the dressing rooms. Please note, we wil l not tolerate yell ing, loud talking or running in the hallway and inside the dressing rooms. All parents and students are expected to respect the Expression of Dance Rules, Staff & Ushers. I f a student is out of the dressing room whether it is to watch the show, leave the high school or to get something to eat, their costume must be completely covered! No one is to ever see a costume except for when you are on stage/in the backstage area. Any student who is watching the show: • MUST HAVE A TICKET AND SHOW IT EACH TIME HE/SHE ENTERS THE AUDITORIUM. • MUST cover their costume completely in order to get in (no hats or headpieces showing) • MUST be back in their assigned dressing room at least 8 numbers prior to his/her number. We've had many

older students who get ready themselves and tend to think they can come back whenever they want, and in the past some students have been late or have even missed their own number. Please plan to be early and ready to go. Students have worked so hard, we don’t want anyone to miss out.

• A female parent or female guardian is needed to pick up your child from the dressing room.

Costume Care

Your child’s name or init ials should be placed inside his/her: costume, shoes, accessories, and tights. Place costumes in a garment bag with your child’s name on the outside. Pack accessories in a clear plastic bag with your child’s name on the bag, label each and which routine it is for.

Other Costume Rules

NO underwear (t ights wil l act as underwear), jewelry (earrings, body piercings, bracelets, etc) or nail polish is to be worn on picture day, at dress rehearsal or at the recital shows. These items must be removed for picture week and when performing on stage. Any performer who enters the auditorium to watch the show must have their costume completely covered, including hairpieces. Please note, you wil l be asked by a staff member to cover up or to leave the auditorium if a costume is seen. A big robe or Dad’s shirt is a great way to cover up. Costumes worn to the High School must be covered completely when entering/exit ing the backstage area.

Recital Shoes Required shoes for the recital must be worn every week to class. This way the students are used to the shoes they are performing in and wil l have worn them in for comfort. All shoes must be cleaned up and in good condition by picture week. If your daughter/son needs new shoes, please stop by the office to order them by March. *EOD only sells Revolution brand shoes. For al l other brands please go to a local dance store or purchase them online.

Recital Hair & Makeup Uniform hairstyles and makeup are required. Each class wil l receive a packet by the end of January with a full description on how hair is to be worn and the color makeup to wear for picture week, dress rehearsal and the shows. All dancers who are in costume and onstage must wear makeup. Think of it as part of the costume. Does that include preschool-age children? Yes, because we want to see their bright eyes and big smiles. If they do not wear makeup the gir ls faces wil l look washed out under stage l ighting. How much makeup should I apply? More is better! I f the makeup looks beautiful up close, it won’t be enough onstage where the costumes, l ights, and movement wash away the color. Remember, you want to see those beautiful faces! Dressing Room Etiquette Students must respect other students’ space and property in the dressing rooms. Many students wil l spend more time in the dressing room than onstage or in the auditorium, so please do your best to keep them organized and clean. DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE OTHER PEOPLE’S BELONGINGS. No food or drink is al lowed in the dressing rooms, except for bottled water. Boys - wil l have their own dressing room and wil l wait quietly by the stage door. GIRLS - PLEASE DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS TO CHANGE IN TO YOUR COSTUME – YOU ARE TO USE THE DRESSING ROOM ONLY. WE NEED TO KEEP THE BATHROOMS OPEN. Backstage Mom Volunteers Moms are needed for each class to supervise the students of her child’s class. You wil l be with the class and wil l be able to watch your child’s class from the side of the stage. Backstage moms must ensure that each child in her care is safe and accounted for. They are responsible for making sure that each child in the class has the costume on correctly, has the proper accessories, shoes, correct hair & makeup, along with bringing the class backstage at the appropriate time. They are also responsible for seeing that al l students return to their appointed dressing room after their performance and stay with them unti l their specif ied dismissal. To sign up to volunteer to be a Backstage Mom, please see the studio bulletin board in February to sign up. Thank you in advance for your help! Quick Costume Changes Many dancers wil l be performing in several different routines in this year’s show; however, a few of you may have quick costume changes. Less than 3 numbers is considered a quick costume change. With proper organization and planning, quick costume changes can run smoothly. Please see Nicole if your daughter has a quick costume change so we can give you, the parent, a pass to help your child get dressed. The “Quick Change Pass” wil l al low the student to change in a special dressing room on the wing of the stage (a teacher can assist the student if a parent is unable). All quick costume changes need to be addressed to Nicole by the end of April . Planning Ahead

The recital isn’t a one-day activity. Gather al l costumes, accessories, shoes & makeup several days in advance so you’l l know if something is missing or isn’t correct. Make a checklist of your child’s routines numbers, l ist ing their costumes, t ights, shoes, and any accessories and refer to it to make sure you have all your supplies before dress rehearsal.

• Bring at least one extra pair of t ights. • Extra hair gel, hairnets, bobby pins and hairspray. • Other handy extras include:

o Baby wipes/Shout wipes (to f ix makeup mistakes or wash hands) o Safety Pins (For repairs) o Clear Nail Polish (to remove minor holes or runs in t ights when there isn’t t ime to change them) o Nail Polish Remover ( in case you forgot to take it off already)

Any questions, please contact the studio off ice at 610-746-2818, [email protected] or

[email protected].

I f the off ice is closed and you have a question, please see your child's teacher before/after class, or email us and we wil l get back to you as soon as possible.

Studio Office Hours: Monday-Thursday: 4:00pm-8:00pm

2018 Recital Ticket Information After completely reading this, please f i l l out the attached ticket order form and submit

with your payment to the off ice.

Monday, April 16th through Thursday, April 19th ***ONLY ONE WEEK TO TURN IN YOUR TICKET ORDER FORM—PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW***

We WILL NOT accept any ticket orders before Monday, Apri l 16th.

TICKET MINIMUM/MAXIMUMS & COSTS: The recital brings many expenses (lighting, auditorium rental, scenery, sound, security, janitors, props, etc.). Under the topic of Annual Recital in the studio brochure, it states that you are required to purchase recital tickets. • You must purchase a minimum of 3 t ickets and up to a maximum of 15 tickets--per account/family, not per

student. For example, if you have two children performing, the minimum and maximum is still 3 and 15, not 6 and 30 tickets. o Each performer wil l receive one complimentary t icket to one show of their choice – this t icket wil l be marked

"student" and can only be used by the student. This means "one" ticket whether the student is performing in 2 or 4 shows. § Please indicate which show your child would like his/her ticket for, in the space provided on the recital ticket order form. § This ticket is included in the maximum amount of tickets you are allotted (12). Your total ticket order may not exceed 15

tickets. However, this ticket is not included in your minimum amount of tickets you are required to purchase (You will purchase at least 3 tickets, plus the student ticket).

§ If your son/daughter would like to see more than one show, you will need to purchase additional tickets for them. • The cost of each ticket is $14.00. *If your child would like to see the show before or after their performance, they will need a

ticket. There is no parent supervision in the dressing rooms when they are done performing. Someone will need to pick up your son/daughter when they are done on stage.

• If you are only staying to see one number, you will need a ticket. • No one will be permitted in the auditorium without a ticket and there is NO STANDING due to the School District’s fire code. • Children age 2 and under do not need a ticket, however they are not permitted to occupy a seat.

*Since your child will be performing in at least 2 shows, if you see your child perform the first day and you don’t want to watch the second show, you can wait in the lobby or dressing room while your child is performing, or you can sign up to be a backstage mom and you will be able to see them perform from the side of the stage. Remember, even if you want to watch only one number, you will need to purchase a ticket. VERY IMPORTANT: • Each show will have a different color ticket. You may use your ticket only for the date/show printed on that ticket. For example: If

you purchase a ticket for the Friday show, you cannot use it to see Saturday’s show. Please note, these tickets are numbered, but do not correspond to a seat in the theater.

• Seating is first come, first serve. There is NO SAVING SEATS. You may save a seat for your child and a mom who is helping that child get ready, but do not expect to save half a row of seats for family that has not arrived yet. Please advise family/friends to arrive early so you can all enter and sit together at the same time. If we see seats being saved, the EOD ushers will address this and those seats will be made available for the people who are present.

USHERS/SEATING- Ushers will be in the front and back sections of the auditorium to help accommodate everyone with seating. The seats in the front sections are recommended for people who are watching the entire show. Parents that plan on helping their children change costumes or students who are in multiple numbers are encouraged to find seating towards the back of the auditorium or by an aisle. We will also have ushers at ALL doors, including the handicap accessible entrance into the upper section of the auditorium. Those of you using those doors to get to the uppermost seats will need to show your ticket every time you enter. This will be strictly enforced. AUDITORIUM DOORS - The auditorium doors wil l only open approximately every 4 numbers (the door openings wil l be noted in your recital program). This is to alleviate distraction during numbers for many who are here to see the entire show and to keep the show running. For example, you will remain seated during performances 1-4. Then, the doors will open for approximately 2 minutes for guests to leave and come in after number 4, but will close before number 5. The doors will remain closed again for numbers 5-8 and then open after number 8, but close again before number 9, and so on. The show is approximately 2 ½ hours long including a 15 minute intermission between Part I & Part II.

FAQ QUESTIONS

What if I don’t need the minimum amount of t ickets I 'm required to buy? You are still required to purchase 3 t ickets. If you know in advance that you will not need that many, post your name, phone number and details of what you have to sell on the studio bulletin board or check with other parents that are here when you are-- maybe they need more tickets and can help you get to your minimum. If this happens, you will purchase the tickets for them and will be responsible for getting the tickets to that person. Parents have not had trouble in the past selling unwanted tickets.

What if I need more t ickets then I 'm allowed to purchase? After everyone has placed their required ticket order, the remaining tickets will go on sale at the studio beginning Monday, May 7th at 4pm. Tickets at this t ime are CASH ONLY. Please note- from this date on, you may purchase as many extras tickets as you want as long as the show is not sold out, but payment will be CASH ONLY-- no exceptions. Tickets will remain on sale throughout the recital weekend, until the show sells out. *Please note recital shows have sold out in the past, so if you can, please plan ahead and have your tickets purchased early.

How do I order & pick up my tickets? • LOOK AT THE RECITAL LINE UP. The recital lineup has been posted on the studio bulletin board since December. On

there you will find your child’s class, their recital song, their number in the lineup, and the shows he/she is performing in. When ordering your tickets, simply fill out the attached order form and hand it in with full payment to the studio office between Monday, April 16th and Thursday, April 19th. YOU HAVE ONE WEEK TO TURN IN YOUR ORDER. Ticket orders will not be accepted prior to April 16th, you will receive your order form back if it is turned in before then.

• Please note that you do not have to order al l your required tickets for one show. You may divide them any way you choose. Please make arrangements with you family now so we do not have to change your t icket order. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

• Please double check your ticket order and make sure you are ordering the correct tickets. There are 4 shows, but all students do not perform in all 4 shows. If you are unsure, please see Nicole and she can help you determine which shows your child is in. If you order the wrong tickets, we cannot guarantee we will be able to switch your tickets if that show is sold out. ORDER CAREFULLY! If you need help with your ticket order, please contact the office.

• After your order is placed, your tickets will be pulled and kept at the studio with your name on them. Tickets wil l not go home unti l your May Tuition and any other outstanding balances are paid. When your account balance is at ZERO, a PARENT or GUARDIAN must come to the off ice to pick up your t ickets beginning Monday, May 7th after 4pm. Tickets are not given to students. A PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST COME TO THE OFFICE AND SIGN FOR THE TICKETS BEFORE THEY WILL BE RELEASED. This has been received well in the past, as it minimizes the risk of lost tickets before recital weekend. Also, we need to have your account settled before dress rehearsal because we will not have a mobile office with account information at Nazareth High School.
