Mission The Corps of Cadets will conduct Recognition Day activities for the class of 2020 on March 18th, 2017 from 1130 to 1700 on The Citadel campus and Marion Square. The objective is to successfully complete a physically and mentally challenging series of obstacles and culminate the Fourth Class System.

Execution Commander’s Intent: To mark completion of a successful “knob year” and initiate the

transition into the S.C.C.C. using rigid physical training to reinforce teamwork and camaraderie.

Heat Injuries • Knobs with prior heat injuries must be identified

with a PT belt slung diagonally across the body• Identified by HA teams NLT 10 March 2017• Commanders and chain of command must have

index cards with names of prior heat injuries.

Heat Injuries • Heat exhaustion: This condition often occurs when people exercise

(work or play) in a hot, humid place where body fluids are lost through sweating, causing dehydration and overheating of the body. The person's temperature may be elevated, but not above 104 F (40 C).

• Heat exhaustion symptoms– Often pale with cool, moist skin– Sweating profusely – Muscle cramps or pains – Feels faint or dizzy – May complain of headache, weakness, thirst, and nausea

Core (rectal) temperature elevated-usually more than 100 F (37.7 C) and the pulse rate increased

Heat Injuries • Heat stroke: Heat stroke, also referred to as a “heatstroke” or “sun stroke,” is a

life-threatening medical condition. The person's cooling system, which is controlled by the brain, stops working and the internal body temperature rises to the point at which brain damage or damage to other internal organs may result (temperature may reach 105 F or greater [40.5 C or greater]).

• Heat stroke symptoms– Unconscious or has a markedly abnormal mental status (dizziness, confusion,

hallucinations, or coma) – Flushed, hot, and dry skin (although it may be moist initially from previous sweating

or from attempts to cool the person with water)– May have slightly elevated blood pressure at first that falls later – May be hyperventilating – Rectal (core) temperature of 105 F (40.5 C) or more

• BN Staff, COs, ALL CADRE AND CADRE STAFF will lead PT on Friday morning.–There will be no other rank holders or privates permitted.

•Airborne Shuffle to and from field• No Cadets with Fourth Class violations may participate. • Only current billet holders• PT supervised by Company, Battalion, Regimental Athletic Officers.• UC position at rear unless leading PT• Uniform - Summer PT’s, reflective (PT) belts, and short white socks.• 4C will NOT have Camelbacks • Emergency water near Sports Medicine and on JOD/OD cart.• Cadre in Navy Blue Shirts, athletic in Light Blue Shirts• XPT cadets will be in bleachers overseen by BN Adjutants

Authorized Exercises in extended platoon formation: • Side straddle hops• Push-ups [wide, regular, and narrow grips] • Lunges/squats • Crunches• Sit-ups/supine bicycle [individual, partnered, and group]• Flutter kicks• High knees]• Mountain Climbers• Burpies

Each exercise must be conducted during the allotted time, with a maximum of 20 repetitions. Exercises can be repeated. All exercises will be monitored by the company athletic officer. Do not repeat the same exercise “over and over”.

Anyone who violates this guidance will be removed from all rec day eventsThere will be no relays, sprints, buddy carries, wheelbarrows, ect.

• Current Athletic Officers will explain each station and ensure that each company move to and from events in a timely manner.

• Each Company AO will be assigned to one station and stay there for duration of Gauntlet. Battalion AOs will be assigned to area to monitor.

– AO is ultimately in charge of all activities performed. – AO should have count of knobs to participate in Rec Day

• Each station will be marked by a yard sign corresponding to their notecard.• Consequences for 1-on-1 PT and satellites

– Send the UC back to their barracks. (Regt/BN Athletic Officers)• One cadet to take photos per CO, in white spirit shirt.• Do not take photos or videos of treatment of medical patients – HIPPA• Those Freshmen who are not participating in Recognition Day due to injuries will be at the bleachers• General Leave for those UC who are not participating

create a single line. (It may curve to adjust to the space).• The first cadet will “low crawl” under the tunnel.• Once the first cadets crawls, the second will follow, and then

continue until each cadet goes.• Continue until time is up.

Station 5 - Log PT• Cadets will be distributed evenly to the logs. They will

perform with the lifting technique, flat backs, and no fast movements.

• Approved Lifts: chest press, bicep curls, sit ups, ground to waist lifts.

Station 6 - Speed Ladders• 2 speed ladders or rope and stake layouts will be set up

parallel to each other.• Knobs will be divided into two lines. Knobs will run one after

the other through the ladder or over the ropes and return to the end of the line.

• Running pattern in this order:1.“Quick Feet” 2. Side Step 3. Backwards4. Hopping on one foot 5. Hopscotch 6. Ski Jump

Station 7 - Sandbags• Cadets will build a barrier on the opposite side of the station• Cadets will then build a circular barrier back at the original

location• Cadets will lunge from one side to the other, build, take

down, and repeat until time expires.• Note: The sandbags must be piled at the original location

before time expires.
