Gurdeep & Varghese,
Dear
I would like to place on record my appreciation on a
terrific job done by yourself and your team in ensuring
completion of the Indore project. Every project has its
own challenges but perhaps this project had more
than its normal share given the remote location and
the fact that we had no existing presence or prior
experience in Indore.
Given the above, this is no mean achievement. There
were times when I felt that we wouldn't get this up on
time however you never wavered in your belief and
that restored my confidence.
A large part of the credit should go to the onsite team
of Rohit and Subhankar who have worked extremely
hard and it's their effort which made the project
successful. I know it's not been easy to stay away
from home for such a long time and its indeed
praiseworthy that both did not let personal
discomforts come in the way.
Many congratulations once again on a great
achievement.

In today's business world, only those people excel, who are
professional in their approach to things. Being a professional
does not mean being good looking, well dressed and behaved
but someone who exhibits integrity, commitment, has a great
sense of ownership and is goal oriented.
The book "The Professional" is a bible for all those people,
who want to be true professionals in their life. 10 attributes are
listed in the book to focus on - Integrity, Commitment and
Ownership, Action orientation and Goal seeking, Continuous
learning, Professional Knowledge/skills, Communication,
Planning-organizing punctuality, Quality of Work, Positive
attitude-approachability-responsiveness and finally being an
Inspiring reference to others. Each attribute has been
explained through real life examples and connects us to our
day-to-day situations.
The book is very easy to read and acts as a guide to
implement many tools in daily work life such as TO-DO List,
saying NO etc. The reader also enjoys these real life
experiences, which the writer has described. Some quotes
from book that made an impact on me are:
- Being rooted is a key requirement for carrying success on
your shoulders without being burdened by it.
- Only a great person can express a negative emotion for the
right reason to the right degree at the right time.
- Saying no ... As a professional, you must set the limits and
when you do, people will respect you for it.
- A true professional will always question and find the root
cause
- Trust cannot be replaced by competence.
- Listen with your whole body.
This book is like a bible to me and has inspired me to change
my working style to suit today's pace.
Sketching has been my hobby for a long time. I made my first sketch
way back in 2007. Initially I would use only pencils, however over
the last few years I started trying
my luck with color pencils. In the
hustle bustle of daily chores I find
time only on the weekends to
pursue my hobby of sketching
I have been mostly replicating
paintings made by various artists
such as Toulouse Lutrec, Renior etc.
Sketching lightens my spirit and
always relaxes me and who does
not like a pat on the back!!!!!

TravelogueKashmir & Leh-Ladakh
This is one trip which I had been waiting to do for a very long time. I had been planning it since 2010 and every year it did not work out. Then my cousin asked me if I was game to go and you can guess what my answer was. Finally 6 of us decided to go.
Once the dates were finalized the research began. We gathered information on the climate, places to visit and list of essentials that we needed to carry since we were traveling by road.
On the 12th of June we left Gurgaon at 4 pm and the target was to halt directly at Srinagar. To do this we were well stalked up with food and other necessary things. We crossed Ludhiana around 3 am and touched the J&K border by 6 am. We were well within the target. We had a short stopover for dinner and at the Titanic point from where we had the first glimpse of the Kashmir Valley. At Titanic point we bought cherries, chips and post a few clicks we headed towards Srinagar and reached at 2 pm after driving throughout the night for 21 hours straight. Since my father was with the Army, our stay was arranged for us in at the Army mess all throughout the trip.
We slept for a couple of hours and in the evening went to the Dal Lake and spent the evening there. We left Srinagar the next morning at 11 am. On the way our first stop was the famous Maggie point. With Maggie and chai as our refreshments we headed towards Kargil.
Sonmarg was the first tourist destination that came on our way. We decided to stop over during our way back. As soon we crossed Sonmarg we reached the Famous Zojila Pass. This pass takes you from one valley to the other and as soon as you enter the next valley you feel that you are in heaven…!!. The sight is breathtaking!! When we reached Kargil it was 8:00 pm. Driving in Kashmir at dusk was adventurous as we were scared and excited at the same time.
When we reached the Army Mess at Kargil, a small barbeque and my favorite Black Dog and some Vodka for the ladies was waiting for us. By the time we slept it was mid night.
Next morning we left for Leh at 10 am. The drive to Leh was just amazing. We reached Leh via the magnetic hill and by the time we reached the hotel it was 6:00 pm.
On the way we crossed Fotu La Pass and as we were climbing it, it started snowing and the weather went from pleasant to super cold. On the way we saw many Buddhist villages. Another attraction on the way was Moon Land. We also visited the Nubra Valley. To reach Nubra you have to take the Highest Motor able road in the world and via the Khardung La Pass. Nubra Valley is home to the Double Humped camels left there by Egyptian traders. This is a desert where you can camp at night. When climbing to reach Khardungla Pass, oxygen becomes scarce and it very difficult to breathe and walk.
Our next visit was the Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake. The Pangong lake without a doubt was the best scenic place I had ever seen. The most notable feature of the lake is the ever changing hues of the lake.
Some of the other places to visit are Shanti Stupa, Leh Fort, Army Museum, and the meeting point of the Indus & Zanskar river.
We had planned to stay here for the night however because of bad weather we decided to go back.
On 21st June we started back and halted at Srinagar and Pathankot on the way. My advise to all that when planning a trip to Leh Ladakh, you must go by road or else you will miss the beautiful and scenic places and never take the weather conditions lightly. It is by far the toughest and harshest conditions that you will ever experience. If you are going by air take 2-3 days extra as you would need a few days to acclimatize yourself to the weather conditions.
I hope you enjoy reading it!! Cheers!!

The Great Rann of Kutch
It has been an exhilarating trip with my family & folks to The Great Rann of Kutch, a remarkable place to visit in Gujarat. I feel blessed that I have walked on the largest salt desert that gave me the feel that I have visited the ends of the earth. …. even more amazing is that the vast and arid expanse of the salt desert is underwater during the main monsoon season in India.
I was delighted while I walked about the enormous stretch of packed white salt crossing the tropic of cancer. We stayed at the Gateway to Rann Resort at Dhordo at the edge of this salt desert. The resort is made up of Kutchi Bhungas (mud huts), traditionally crafted and decorated with handicrafts. After feasting on Gujarati delicacies, I
It took me down memory lane when i was a young student and learnt about the tropic of cancer during geography classes.
treated myself with Kawda sweets which are famous and are made of milk from a place called Kawda located at the Pakistan border.
From there we travelled to Shaam-e-Sarhad to see the Sunset at the Border. It's a village resort in Hodka. That night we chose to camp there in a tent for the night.
While I left the place, these words came ringing in my mind…The best moments of life come from small & simple things
I visited the eastern border of India and I was delighted and grateful to see an SBI ATM at the Border. I felt immensely grateful for the arrangement.

We decided to attend a colleague's wedding in Kurnool and leveraged an opportunity to visit Belum Caves.
After attending the wedding and feasting on the authentic Andhra food at Betamcherla, on our way to the caves, our group of 10 people enjoyed the serene beauty of kurnool – particularly enjoyed looking at people relaxing under Neem tree playing chausar, women selling bangles in their small wooden countryside mini.
As we reached Belum caves, we saw a group of bikers from Bangalore on their Royal Enfield all geared up and raving to go. Belum is a 3 km long cave, clean, well lit with air showers (as one
of our friends put it) as the only vents of fresh air inside the cave. These caves have been formed by natural flow of underground
Belum Caves
water and are the second largest caves in the Indian subcontinent. They are known for stalactite and stalagmite formations. We saw Patalganga, Banyan Tree, Kotilingalu, Meditation Hall, Saints bed and thousand hoods in the caves which was intriguing.
On the way back, we relished Punjabi food sitting on the khatiya. Tired but elated, sleepy yet rejuvenated, it was a trip that we would cherish for a lifetime.

MaleficentDirector: Robert StrombergCast: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton
Maleficent is Disney's version of the evil fairy of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, who
cursed the princess to a death-like sleep. Maleficent made an appearance in the 1959
Disney version of the story. In Maleficent, she is a nice fairy who is duped and has her
wings taken away by a farm boy she loves, Stefan, who does it to ingratiate himself
with the king and to marry his daughter to take over the kingdom. Hurt by Stefan's
betrayal, Maleficent curses the girl, Aurora, born to him.
As a young girl living in her fairy land, Maleficent isn't an evil person to begin with. In
fact, as a child, her life was full of fantasy and wonder in the moors and the forest that
she lived in.
But as time goes by, things change when King Henry (Cranham) decides to take over her
beloved homeland. And that represents the clash between the two worlds - that of the
humans and Maleficent's kind. While she had befriended a boy called Stefan (played as
a grown-up by Copley) when she was young, he later develops ambitions that would have far-reaching consequences
in the story.
And so, Stefan transforms from a friend into an enemy, a transformation that is most chillingly depicted in one scene.
The shock and betrayal that Maleficent consequently feels is therefore somewhat justified and understandable. Her
grudge against Stefan begins here and she takes revenge on him in the best way she knows. And as the fairytale
goes, Stefan's daughter Aurora, for no fault of hers, is cursed. But just when the story seems to take a predictable turn,
we see an unexpected link begin to develop between Maleficent and the young
Princess Aurora (Fanning) which is surprising as the two couldn't be more different from
each other - Maleficent is a brooding person whose confidant is a shape-shifting raven
called Diaval (Riley), while Aurora is a charming and happy girl. Aurora has a
goodness about her that possibly reminds Maleficient of how she once was.
Maleficent is pretty much Angelina Jolie's vehicle all the way, because looking at how
she fits this role down to the letter, it's hard to imagine anyone else inhabiting the
character of a good person-turned-evil as well as she does in this film. With horns on
her head, piercing eyes, angular cheekbones, an athletic body and a body fit costume,
Angelina Jolie is majestic. It's lovely to see a big budget fantasy film centered around a
leading lady like Jolie. She with her star power and acting talent does full justice to
every penny gone into making this splendid drama.
The film is also a visual treat. The beautiful landscape, green forest, animated
creatures make it a perfect fantasy film.

A group of 30 colleagues from our
Mumbai office took out some time for a
team bonding day trip to Della, India's
largest adventure Park.
They headed out at 6.30 am on a bright
Saturday morning. On reaching, they
started with the Paintball activity, geared
up in the military attire, aiming and
shooting the opposition team, getting hit
while trying to save their team leader and
for those 10 minutes lived a life of a
soldier. This was followed by the unique
rock-climbing experience which left them
all breathless with excitement, as they
reached their moment of triumph at the
top. Well! that was not the end of it, and
they moved on to take on the next
challenge of crossing the Burma Loop,
Horizontal Net, Burma Bridge, Swinging
Bridge, Vertical Net Crossing and Wooden
Obstacles. Post lunch they attempted
Rappelling, an activity to rope down to the
ground, conquering their worst fears, and
an achievement that was sweet!! They
continued with the “Flying Fox” zipping
from one end to another which was fun
and nothing short of being Tarzan for a
few minutes.
Coming from a land where the great Legendary Arjun was born, they tried their hands on Archery, but only a few were lucky to hit the bull's eye.
And last but not the least, the most challenging task, that needed team work and coordination was to find the hidden treasure. A team of two
people running around to find clues. Being big fans of the great detective Sherlock Holmes, they picked up clues and did the impossible yet
again!!
The day was not only a great break in the humdrum of daily work but also renewed the camaraderie and closeness amongst the members,
bringing in new energy in the team.
