What will you find in The Carson Valley? A community nestled at the base of the awe-inspiring Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, just a short half hour drive away from the Jewel of the Sierra, Lake Tahoe. The Carson Valley boasts Nevada’s oldest settlement, Genoa, and don’t forget to visit Nevada’s oldest saloon, The Genoa Bar. Just as the Carson Valley is a gateway between the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin Desert, it is also an intersection between quiet relaxation and exhilarating outdoor activities. The Sierra Nevada contains over 32,000 acres of skiable terrain and is home to the Tahoe Rim Trail, a 162 mile hiking trail circumnavigating the ridges surrounding Lake Tahoe. The Carson Valley is home to Tahoe Ridge Winery, multiple golf courses and backs up to hundreds of acres of uninhabited land, controlled by the Bureau of Land Management, and used by local residents for horseback riding, dirtbike and ATV riding. Visit downtown Minden, Gardnerville and Genoa for a fun, and historic, shopping experience. Make a special point not to miss the yearly celebration, Carson Valley Days, including a carnival, parade, and hot air balloon launch, or the holiday lighting of the Minden Town Gazebo and the Parade of Lights.
The Record-Courier was first started in 1875 as the Carson Valley News. The Record-Courier is owned and operated by Swift Communications, a Nevada-based com-pany. The paid newspaper is published on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, averaging approximately 6,004 copies per edition. The Record-Courier and its affiliated website, www.recordcourier.com, focus on local and community news. Special publications include the Carson Valley Almanac, the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Guide, and the Best of the Carson Valley.
THREE AMAZING FACTS!
1 The Carson Valley is just a short 20 minute drive from world class skiing at Lake Tahoe.
2 The Carson Valley is home to major industrial manufacturing, including at 300,000 square
foot Starbucks Roasting Plant.
3 Nevada’s oldest saloon, The Genoa Bar, is still a favorite watering hole among locals
and visitors.
