Semester Teaching Fellow

Position Description

The duties and responsibilities of this position may include each of the itemised activities with specificexpectations negotiated from time to time with the Dean.

INTRODUCTION

A Semester Teaching Fellow is expected to make a contribution to the teaching effort of the Facultyand University, particularly at undergraduate and graduate diploma levels, and to carry out activitiesto develop their scholarly and professional expertise relevant to their discipline or profession, underthe guidance and support of more senior academic staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities of a Semester Teaching Fellow include, but are not limited to:

¦ Conducting lectures, tutorials, workshops, practical classes, demonstrations, field excursions,clinical sessions and other appropriate learning activities as required

¦ Ensuring that the quality of teaching delivery and subject content is of the highest standard0 Teaching in accordance with Faculty and University policies and procedures, as amended from

time to timeProviding academic and administrative support to the Faculty and University as requiredBeing available for consultation for students and staff

- Preparing and marking assignments and exams, including deferred and supplementary examsPreparing and submitting final grades within the relevant deadlines

¦ Contributing to subject coordination, including the supervision of tutors and related planning andcoordination responsibilities

0 Preparing high quality subject delivery and learning support materials and ensuring that these areavailable to students

« Ensuring that students are adequately informed regarding the requirements and conduct oflearning activities for which they are responsible

h Participating in professional and community service including contributions to relevantprofessional societies and to the community

¦ Participating in promotion, marketing and recruitment activities as required¦ Assisting in the development of and participating in short courses, seminars and conference

programs» Contributing to Department and/or Faculty meetings, and serving on committees as requiredb Working within Faculty and University policies and procedures, as amended from time to time

OTHER DUTIES AS DIRECTED

The staff member may seek and/or the Dean may allocate additional duties within a staff member'sskill, competence and training.

TEACHING LOAD

The work load for a Semester Teaching Fellow is determined by the Dean within Faculty policy. Withthe approval of the Dean the teaching work load may be decreased to take account of research andprofessional activity and achievements, and to recognise increased levels of responsibility.

RELEVANT EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

A Semester Teaching Fellow is expected to have completed four years of tertiary study or equivalent.

UNDERSTANDING OF QUALITY ASSURANCE

Staff should demonstrate an understanding of the principles of quality assurance and continuousimprovement as they apply at Bond University.

Staff are expected to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the Bond University Strategic Plan,university policy and to our quality assurance processes.

UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURAL SENSITIVITY

Staff will come into contact with staff and students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. It isexpected that mutual respect, cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity will form the basis of aprofessional working relationship.

Staff are encouraged to attend a cultural sensitivity workshop to further enhance and develop culturalawareness and cultural sensitivity skills.

The Faculty of Society & Design is inviting expressions of interest for casual lecturing within theConstruction Management & Quantity Surveying area. All undergraduate subjects are delivered Mondayto Wednesday on a weekly basis, with postgraduate subjects delivered via an intensive three dayresidential; occurring twice per semester. The appointments would suit highly qualified locally basedprofessionals. Consideration will also be given to those who are able to attend on a 'fly-in fly-out' basisfor the intensive sessions.

The successful appointees will contribute to the Faculty's teaching profile, engage in professional andindustry liaison and provide student support within the Faculty. The Faculty welcomes experiencedindustry professionals who have the ability and the desire to communicate their skills through teachingthe industry participants of the future.

Experts are sought for lecturing in the fields of building measurement, construction technology,construction scheduling, site management, structures and soil mechanics, building/engineering servicesas well as project management. The successful applicant(s) will hold a PhD or Master's degree in arelevant field and/or have extensive relevant industry experience. It is desirable that the applicant(s) is amember of a relevant professional body such as the RICS or Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, orbe eligible for such membership.

Salary Details:In accordance with the University wide rates, depending on qualifications and experience.
