RecycleMania BY: Jake Cordtz, Josh Walters, Garrett Young and, Johnny Whittemore What is RecycleMania RecycleMania is a national recycling competition sponsored by college campuses around the US. To promote and raise awareness for recycling on and off college campuses through competition, as well as to shed light on students’ recycling habits. Cardboard from the Student Union Building was collected for one week to build a structure on the quad as a visual representation of how much is produced/recycled from the Student Union Building in one week. Weekly recycled material totals across campus were obtained by BSU Recycling Services and reported to the RecycleMania website for a national competition. Surveys were circulated to understand student recycling habits. Of the students who took the survey, the majority recycle on campus, however convenience plays a large role in their decision to recycle. Purpose Project ● Avg Campus Recyclables: 21,086 lbs/week ● # of Campus Recycling Centers: 14 ● # of Schools Participating: 350 Survey Results
