The 70th annual Red Flan-nel Festival Queen Schol-arship Pageant will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cedar
Springs High School Audi-torium. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Cedar Springs Library for $10 in advance, $13 at the
door. Kids under 18 are $6. Pageant will be emceed by local radio personality Andy Rent.

The annu-al Red Flannel Prince and Prin-cess contest will take place next W e d n e s d a y , September 24, at the historic Kent Theatre in downtown Ce-dar Springs at 6:30 p.m. Come on out and see the littlest Red Flannel royalty get crowned! Free admission and free refresh-ments. There are 36 entries in this year’s pageant. The prince and princess are cho-sen through a random drawing of ticket entries. Len Allington will emcee.
5K run/walkThe Red Flannel 5K Run/walk takes place
Saturday, September 27, and is a fun thing for the whole family to do! Awards and kids fun run follow the main run. 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m. at Maple and Park Street. The kids fun run starts at 9:45 a.m.
Lumberjack supperThe Cedar Springs Lions Club has hosted
the Lumberjack Supper prior to the Queen’s pageant every year since 1941. The supper consists of ham, fresh side pork, boiled po-tatoes, and all the trimmings. Dinner served on Saturday, September 27, from 5-7 p.m. at the Cedar Springs High School cafeteria.
Hang up the red sparkling lights, get out your Red Flannels and take part in a new Red Flannel tradition. Decorate the outside of your house and yard (must be visible from the street) before sunset on Tuesday September 30th. Nominate your own home in the Cedar Springs area or a friend’s by emailing the home-owner name and address by September 28 at noon to [email protected]; fill out an online entry at www.redflannelfestival.org, or mail to The Red Flannel Festival/House Decorating Contest, PO Box 43 , Cedar Springs, MI 49319 (must be in office by Sept 28). Addresses will be posted for the public to know where to see some amazing decora-tions. Judging takes place anonymously from the street before sunset September

Listen to the song on youtube, wear your red and smile for the cam-era as it goes by to help us establish a world record!
Bring in the clowns: The Scottville Clown Band is also new this year! They
ping, sawing and log roll-ing.
Paint us a picture: Back again is the Red Flannel Art Review, with local art-ists vying for cash prizes in local venues, which began early September. Voting ends today, Sept. 18, but winners will be announced Sept. 23 at The Barn, corner of Main and Cherry St.
Beam me up, Scotty: Need to be transported during the festival? Also
will march in the Grand Parade and then perform a concert in the Grand Lodge.

30.Judges will look for the following
criteria: Animation (moving parts), Sound & Special Effects, Interaction (feeling like part of the scene when vis-iting), and Effective Use of Space. The top three will receive an award sign in their yard and cash prizes. First place will receive: $100, second place: $75, and third place: $25.

John Teusink named 2014 Grand Marshal
The Red Flannel Festival Board of Directors proudly named Cedar Springs res-ident John Teusink as the 2014 Grand Marshal for the 75th Diamond Anniversary Annual Celebration, to be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
“I consider this a great honor,” remarked Teusink. “It’s the greatest honor I’ve ever had.”
“The Festival is extremely proud and thankful for the many years of John’s out-standing dedication to the Cedar Springs community,” said Michele Tracy-Andres, President of the Festival.
Teusink, 73, has lived in Cedar Springs all his life, and came by his service to the community naturally. He is the son of Dr. James (J.) Harvey Teusink and his wife Dorothy, both deceased. Dr. Teusink was a well-known doctor for many years in Cedar Springs and also served on the school board for many years. Dorothy was the first woman mayor in Cedar Springs back in the 1960s.
Teusink grew up here in town with his older brother Jack, now deceased, and his sister, Nancy Jackson, who
