Welcome to 2018 at Red Rock Regional Theatre
and Gallery. Please enjoy the information in our
first newsletter of the year and be informed
about what is happening in February and
throughout the year.
In February we welcome artist Nathan Patterson
back for his Coastal Connections exhibition.
Nathan first exhibited at RRRTAG in 2016 and we
are thrilled to have an opportunity to share his
work with the public once again.
A big thank you to all the entrants for the
Minuscule exhibition. Please see the list of prize
winners on page 5 of this edition. Looking ahead
you can read about Call for Entries for upcoming
exhibitions and other exhibition information on
page 4.
In theatre news, season or individual tickets are
still available for the ‘Four Shows One Season’
and also the ‘Café Culture Series 2018’. See
pages 6 and 7 for further descriptions of all the
performers.
The Film Society recommences with the first
screening on February 21/22 of A Man Called
Ove. New members are most welcome to join
before that date so please see the join up
information on page 9.
At the back of each newsletter is some space for
other community arts events and information. In
exciting developments, our region will be
presenting a range of artists, their works and
studios over the Kana weekend March 17 and
18. More information about this in our March
edition but please see the Colac Otway Arts

… ‘MINUSCULE’…
Visitors were delighted and amazed to view the 250 artworks on 15cm x 15cm small canvases displayed throughout the gallery during December and January. Artists exhibiting included pre-school and school groups, all ability and aged care groups, professional and establised artists and those just wishing to explore their artistic talents. See page 5 below for more information.

MAY Exhibition ‘Scapes of the Land’ Cows, Trees and Scraped Knees
How we relate, remember and experience our land is unique. The land can be beautiful and sublime as it can be harsh and unforgiving. What do you see? Artists are invited to submit their interpretations inspired by how they see the land. Artworks can be 2D or 3D in any medium including painting, sculpture, textile/fibre, printmaking, photography, jewellery, ceramics.

MARCH
‘The Spaces Between’ We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host award winning artist Jandamarra Cadd’s latest
collection of dot portraits in the ‘The Spaces Between’ collection. Most of the paintings in the collection have been finalists in art prizes across Australia and include his Archibald 2014 finalist portrait of friend and mentor Archie Roach, his Black Swan Portrait Prize Finalist and Online People’s Choice winning portrait of Actor Luke Carroll. This highly anticipated exhibition will also include his most popular and powerful portraits to date “Uncle Jack” and “We Are the Land” (finalist in the Percival Portrait Prize 2016) and his joyous and much loved portrait “Radiance” – Finalist in The 2016 Sunshine Coast Art Award and Winner of The People’s Choice Award. The opening of the exhibition, 7pm Friday 2
nd March, is a ticketed event and will feature an
intimate floor talk of the exhibition by Jandamarra followed by a discussion/Q&A session with Jandamarra and portrait subject Uncle Jack Charles in the Theatre. See our website www.redrockarts.com.au for further details and ticketing information.

‘Small Works’ Respected artist and friend of the Gallery, Julie Keating, will bring together a selection of small works by a group of contemporary Australian artists.

‘Scapes of the Land’ Entries open

‘The Art of Football’ Following the success of the ‘Art of Sport’ exhibition in 2017, the Gallery will again collaborate with art lover and sports fanatic Bob Utber in drawing the community together with an exhibition featuring football-themed works produced by a range of accomplished artists who will explore the passions of art and the game.

10 Nathan Patterson - Artist of the Month
Nathan Patterson is a prolific artist and Wagiman
man living in Victoria. His work is currently
exhibited in various locations and he has been
involved in designing a number of AFL jumpers
and football boots. Nathan’s work can also be
seen in murals around Geelong and other
locations and he also spends time sharing his
talent in educational workshops.

Look out! Here comes The Colac Otway Arts Trail!
Well it really is happening! Thanks to the passion and drive by a number of Colac Otway artists and
others, the Colac Otway Arts Trail will be launched on Friday 9th
March, 2018 at 6.30pm at the Colac
Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre (COPACC) along with the opening of the curated
exhibition Adamas (from ancient Greek word meaning unconquerable and indestructible), a tribute to
all the long and hard-working volunteers who keep the iconic Kana Festival alive.
We invite you to come along and celebrate the beginning of the Arts Trail on Friday 9th
and then enjoy
the full experience of the Arts Trail on Saturday 17th
and Sunday 18th
March which will complement
the 60th
Anniversary of Kana.
The trail will operate from 10am-3pm on both days with over 50 art spaces and studios opening their
doors along with workshops and public art being showcased. Further information with greater detail
about this great event will be in the March edition of the RRRTAG Newsletter.
In the meantime, keep this weekend free, spread the word and keep an eye on the

participating artists and places.
