Dear Friends,
Welcome to the USA premiere performances of New Adventures’ production of The Red Shoes.
I’m delighted to be opening this show here in Los Angeles at a theatre very close to my heart. The Ahmanson Theatre very much feels like our home venue in the United States, and the entire team here at Center Theatre Group are valued colleagues. I was delighted to participate in the 50TH Anniversary celebrations earlier this year to mark the extraordinary legacy of these venues. It was also an honour to be invited by Michael Ritchie to become an Associate Artist of Center Theatre Group a role that, for me, demonstrates the combined commitment of both our organizations to collaboration and artistic partnership.
This show is the culmination of a 20-year ambition to bring Powell and Pressburger’s seminal 1948 film to the stage. It is also, in many ways, my personal love letter to a life in theatre and dance.
The Red Shoes led us into 2017 and launched the 30-year celebration of my company in great style. We marked the anniversary with a packed program of touring and projects across the U.K. and around the world. I am delighted that our charity Re:Bourne is delivering dance experiences to high school students across Los Angeles during our season at Center Theatre Group.
In 2017 we are proudly touring more dance and delivering more dance experiences, than any other U.K. dance company and are thrilled to be introducing The Red Shoes to our friends in the USA. This is only possible due to the loyalty and support of our audiences across the U.K. and internationally. Whether you’re one of our biggest supporters, or someone new to dance or our company, thank you for being here.
