• Why the Red Tide appear?

• Color and characteristic.

• Other kinds of tide.

• Impacts for fisheries.

• Solution and prospect.

• Conclusion

Page 3: Red tide

• Outbreak of mass amount of plankton. • Depends on the pigment of the plankton, the

color will change. Sometimes, red, orange, or brown.

• Depends on the weather, volcanic activities, and other kinds of environmental variation, red tide will occur.

• Recently, due to pollution and global warming, red tide occur.

We can see Red Tide from the space.

Page 4: Red tide

• Environmental Pollution⇒Waste water from factory pour into river and sea.

⇒ The plankton outbreak by waste water.

• Global warming①Ocean current weakened.②Easy to outbreak plankton.

③Became less oxygen.④Break down ecosystem.

Color and characteristic.

• There are various kinds of plankton outbreak by environmental pollution.

• There are; red, orange, brown, yellow, light blue, white, green, and so on.

• Depends on the plankton and its color, it will be negative effects for our activities.

Page 6: Red tide

Blue Tide

• This tide is also caused by plankton.• Once outbreak planktons are dead and

decompose at seabed, this process use huge amount of oxygen.

• The sea water with shortage of oxygen will come up to surface, and it looks like whitened blue.

• This will lead damage to fisheries. • In Tokyo bay, the blue tide will occur after red tide, and it will kill vongole.

Page 7: Red tide

White Tide

• Usually occur in summer.

• Caused by outbreak of

Eucampia zoodiacus (plankton)

• Once they dead, the color will become

milk-white.

• White tide will also lead bad

effect for fishery.

Page 8: Red tide

Green Tide

• Caused by nutrient rich water.

• Then outbreak of

Trichodesmium (plankton).

• Once they dead, their body become dark green.

• Looks very dirty.

• Less fish.

Page 9: Red tide

Aoko: “Green laver powder”• Aoko is caused by outbreak of “Euglena acus”.• The outbreak was caused by exceed nutrient rich.• Depends on the environment, such as lake or

pond or swamp, or seasons; the species are different.

• It looks like spread green powder on the water. Therefore, in Japan, it called “青 Ao 粉 ko”, that means Green powder.

Impacts for fisheries.

• Plankton uses huge amount of oxygen, so other creatures will be dead by out of oxygen.

• If it occur close to fishery farm, cultivating fishes will be dead, and sometimes damaged for few years.

• Plankton will stuck into fish gill and choke to die.• Some plankton emit poison; Seashell eat them, and people eat them, then get sick.

Page 11: Red tide

Solution:1

• Monitor the place where the Red Tide easy to outbreak, such as river and sea in industrial area.

• Also, develop sewage treatment.

Page 12: Red tide

Solution:2

• To stop global warming is one of the important solution.

Refuse plastic bag

Reduce using electricity

Reuse used pet bottle

Recycle materials

Page 13: Red tide

Solution:3

• To stop exceed nutrient rich in bay side,Create “artificial mud flat”.

• At artificial mud flat, vongole will eat plankton.• Vongole can also clean the water.• In summer, many people go to artificial mud flat and enjoy shellfish gathering.

Page 14: Red tide

Prospect:1

• Past few years, we invented biological chemicals.• This chemicals using virus, which only effect for certain

types of plankton to reduce red tide and other water pollution.

• However, this is still on the developing.

Block to get rid of “Aoko” invented by Nihon Kogyo Co., Ltd.

Conclusion

• In conclusion, we have some solution to stop red tide and other kinds of water pollution.

• However, each one of us can also stop pollute water by changing daily life style.
