Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Last week we said a sad farewell to one of the found-
ing teachers of Reddam Sydney, Merle Price. Merle is
retiring after sixty years of teaching History and Ancient
History. She has captivated the students in her Ancient
History Class since the school started in 2001. Many of
her past students honoured her with their presence
coming to thank her for the inspiration she has been in
their lives. There are many who have gone on to study
Ancient History at Uni, while there are others who have
become Archaeologists and History Teachers. They all
share the same story of being inspired by this remarka-
ble teacher. We wish Merle well in her retirement and
thank her for seventeen years of stimulating teaching
at Reddam.
The best speakers in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 battled
it out for top honours in the annual Public Speaking
Competition. The adjudicators all found the standard
exceptionally high and their decisions very difficult.
Dee and I watched the Year 7 students speeches and
I have to agree that all the topics were interesting, the
delivery superb and the engagement with the audi-
ence exceptional. Having the opportunity thereafter
to hear the winners of each section at the prize giving
allowed all in attendance to enjoy the best of the
best. Well done to Mrs. Karney and all the students
who made it through to the finals. The eventual win-
ners in each section were:
Year 7: Winner: Grant Stein with runner-up: Mia Seisun
Year 8: Winner: Daniella Christelis with runner-up: Dena
Rubinstein
Year 9: Winner: Cooper Hartman with runner-up:
Anthony Yap
The Year 9 Drama assessment evening at Bondi on
Tuesday explored the topic of Mental Health and
while the presentations were quite confronting, the
performances were exceptional. The depth of feeling
portrayed in the subject matter kept the audience
riveted.
Congratulations to Tanya & Danil Saveliev who placed
in the top 30 at the Junior Latin World Championships
in Romania. A fantastic effort.

On Wednesday the Year 12 Formal was held at the
Royal Motor Yacht Club. The Class of 2017’s final fare-
well was a wonderful testament to a group of students
who have enjoyed school and each other. The fun
and positive vibe throughout the evening was quite
wonderful to witness. This group of students have seen
the positive effect of the cohort being cohesive and
supportive of one another. Thank you to Carly Craw-
ford for her organisation of the event. The parents also
enjoyed the pre-drinks on the rooftop, an initiative that
has really taken off. A nostalgic farewell indeed.

The Middle School Examinations start today with the
students writing English and they continue next week.
I am sure that students have been preparing for these
and are looking forward to the singular focus during this
period. Year 10 students continue with their Final Exami-
nations into next week.
Students are encouraged to use all the strategies that
have been instilled in them throughout the course of
the year to maximise their performance.
Have a calm week,
Dave Pitcairn
