Friday 13th April 2018

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The end of a very busy, exciting and eventful term

brings with it the opportunity for students to relax and

recharge as they enjoy a well-deserved holiday. Re-

ports will be ready in the first two days of the holiday. As

always an email with the link to parent lounge will be

sent informing parents when they have been upload-

ed. Year 12 students who have been in an assessment

block up to the last days of this term will receive their

reports next term. They will receive feedback next term.

Last Saturday the Reddam International Community

Service Project’s twenty-three students, Mr Garratt and

Mrs. Pelosi set off on a training weekend in Hornsby. The

training expedition is designed to prepare all team

members for life on an expedition where the students

are expected to lead and run their own expedition.

There was also instruction in basic expedition skills in-

cluding: packing a rucksack, health and hygiene,

menu planning and cooking, cooking dehydrated

food, use of cookers, camp craft and teamwork under

arduous conditions.

The students worked together as a team trekking the

Great Northern Walk. On arrival at the camp site stu-

dents got to practise their camp craft and cooking skills

setting up tents and making an incredible vegetable

curry, an appropriate meal in preparation for their

pending Indian experience. All the catering was pur-

chased to a very strict budget and carried by the stu-

dents into the valley.

Fitness levels of all team members were observed to

highlight any areas that could give cause for concern

whilst overseas. The aim of this is to give individuals

plenty of time to work on their fitness in preparation for

the challenges facing them on their expedition in July.

Our annual String Competition was held on Mon-

day evening. Eighteen of our finest string players lined

up to be heard by parents and friends and our adjudi-

cator Leigh Middenway. Her feedback for our students

was very positive and heartfelt.

The intermediate section was hotly contested with evi-

dence of our growing strings programme in the Middle

School taking off. Leigh awarded Highly Commended

certificates to Dani Christelis and Max Rebelo; 3rd

Place went to Avital Gottheiner; 2nd Place to Yasha

Ivanets; whilst the Gold Medal was awarded to Harri-

son Stein.

The Senior Section saw three of our Senior students bat-

tle it out. This was an excellent opportunity for them to

perform HSC works for an outside examiner and Leigh's

feedback was clear and helpful. She awarded 3rd

Place to Sacha Styles; 2nd Place to Ariel Pacanowski;

The Gold Medal went to Raphael Masters.

The Inter-House House Music continued on Friday dur-

ing the Cycle Test and Assembly periods. An appropri-

ate way to conclude the term.

The Year 9 Chinese class enjoyed a celebration of

completing their theme of the term: the study of food

vocabulary. Mrs. Wu brought Chinese dumplings and

the students brought food and drinks to the Chinese

lesson on Thursday 12 April to celebrate the end of a

successful term.

We wish Aedan Maloney well as he takes on his next

adventure to Everest in these holidays. This year he will

ascend to 6190m, which is considerably higher than at

Base Camp that he did last year.

All the best in your bid to become

the youngest Australian to summit

the elusive Mt Everest at some time

in the near future.

I wish everyone a restful holiday,

Dave Pitcairn

MATZA BAKE

This year right before Pesach all students of years 7-12 got an opportunity to have a cultural matza bakery with

the Reddam Jewish club. As one student said "we love this!! It is so nice that everyone is involved!"

REDDAM SKI CAMP

This camp has been designed by skiers/boarders to give stu-

dents maximum time on the snow. We will be staying at

Snowy Gums Lodge at Smiggins and skiing at Perisher. Subject

to conditions we aim at skiing 9.00am to 5.00pm each day.

Staying on snow allows us to monitor conditions across the

entire resort. On the blue sky days we will be there for the 1st

lifts and if there are blizzards we can keep our students warm

and dry in the lodge and avoid the chaos on the road up to the

ski fields. With experienced and enthusiastic teachers, the

students will have a great time on the snow!

Please see Mr Kable for a booking form or email:

[email protected] for further details.
