Our senior master, Phillip Bailey, kept saying, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” And it certainly was the Lord’s day and you all rejoiced with pleasurable activities, and with so many family and friends enjoying time together. It was also great to have many past students return to catch up. The students have raised in excess of $20,000 to assist remote indigenous communities in Boggabilla (NSW), Canteen Creek, and Harts Range (NT). At Boggabilla, the students will contribute, alongside staff and volunteer-licensed builders, to the completion of the church/ community facility in the coming mid-year vacation. In partic- ular, we will endeavour to install roof sheets and walls on the ‘Oasis Community Centre’ as well as some landscaping around the building. In Boggabilla, we will also be sharing with the wider community by running children’s activities, a BBQ and a concert in the local park. Please join us in prayer for this trip as we bring God’s love and hope to the people of Boggabilla. I would like to add a particular note of thanks for the generosity of parents and friends who have donated food for this trip. We are so thankful to all parents, friends and local business- es that generously supported our Year 10 students by your presence on Gala Day – and also for those who provided cash donations or items for the Silent Auction. Dear parents, guardians and friends,

Another term has come quickly to a close, but what a term it has been!

And thanks, above all, to the Lord of life who gave us the perfect gift of such a beau-tiful day!

A Midsummer Night’s DreamLast week the Junior Drama Club made his-tory in our School with our first ever Shake-speare production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream! And what a wonderful production it was! The 360° stage was a unique and en-joyable experience for the whole audience. An old comedy that still makes us laugh today!

It was good that many parents and friends were able to attend each of the three per-formances.

Congratulations to our young students who brought to life this old story in a fresh, new way! A fitting way to celebrate the greatest playwright of all time, on the 400th anniver-sary of his death.

Our celebration of 400 years of Shake-speare continues next term when the Senior Drama Club brings us another hilarious romantic comedy: The Taming of the Shrew. Don’t miss it!

Inaugural Principal’s DinnerWhat a wonderful night of fellowship and friendship this was! To find time to sit down and have a meal together must be an ongo-ing feature of our year!

And to have such an encouraging speaker with a most helpful message for parents and children alike! Wendy Francis was certainly a beacon of hope for us in a world that is of-ten difficult to navigate for our children.

The “Turn, Think, Tell” campaign was launched the next Monday morning at a School Assembly. I outlined some of the issues we talked about on Friday night and then promoted the “Turn, Think, Tell” mes-sage as part of the solution.

Watoto ConcertThis was another amazing Friday night for all of us to share as a School family! The children’s singing was lively! The message of hope in the Good News of Jesus was challenging and encouraging!

The Friday morning concert in Sargood Hall was also enjoyed by all students – from the youngest to the oldest!

A New BabyChris and Meredith Jones, two of our teaching staff, had the great joy of the birth of their third child – a girl, Abigail Darlene Jones! Congratulations to Dad and Mum and a big-hearted welcome to this precious baby!

Sporting HighlightsAs usual, there were some outstanding student achievements in sport this term in both cross country and athletics. The overall highlight, however, was the enthusiasm and participation of all students.

Redeemer was the champion school at the SWISSA (Secondary) Cross Country. Alisha Maharaj, Aryan Sehgal, Panialeise Hughes, Anthony Bolton, Gabrielle Jones, Tristan Forrester and Patricia Lamboa were all indi-vidual age champions.

In the ASISSA (Primary) Cross Country, Adrian Burns, Jessica Chandra and Victoria Garth qualified to compete at the CIS State

Cross Country Championships.

In team sports, Redeemer won the Senior Boys Soccer Championship and qualified for the grand final in the Junior Boys Soccer Championship. The Girls Junior, Intermedi-ate and Senior Netball teams also qualified for their grand finals.

Several Redeemer students were also selected to play in SWISSA representative teams: Callum Bailey, Chris Lamboa, Caleb Tumai, Junior Savaiko, Daniel Aras, Anthony Bolton, Steven Laloutsos and Ambaye Akele (Boys Soccer); and Anthony Bolton, Ambaye Akele, Caleb Tumai, Junior Savaiko, Chris Lamboa, Danyael Anonuevo and Callum Bailey (Touch Football).

ExcursionsSome excursion highlights in Term 2 includ-ed:

• Kindergarten went to the Riverside The-atre for a performance of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and, of course, they loved it!

• Year 12 went to the Sydney Opera House to watch the blockbuster movie, Babe, while the Sydney Symphony played the orchestral score by local composer, Nigel Westlake. A truly outstanding event!

• All students from K-Year 8 attended the Sydney Symphony Schools Concerts for the new, narrated composition, The Compos-er Is Dead – a ‘whodunit’ which takes the

audience through all the instruments of the orchestra. (Some of our students featured in the Parramatta Sun article about these concerts.)

• Year 12 attended a symposium on Shake-speare’s Richard III presented by Sport For Jove at the Seymour Centre, Sydney Univer-sity.

• Year 10 students went to the Australian Museum in Sydney and enjoyed David Attenborough’s virtual reality programs as a part of their Science studies.

• Year 12 Biology and Chemistry engaged in a field study at Sydney Water, Penrith.

• Year 11 students engaged in a one-day program including the State Library, the Powerhouse Museum, and the movie, God’s Not Dead 2.

• Year 12 Ancient History attended a semi-nar on Pompeii and Herculaneum.

• Years 1 and 2 visited a locomotive depot at Valley Heights in the Blue Mountains and even had a ride on a real steam train! This was part of their HSIE program.

• Year 10 Business Services visited JC Travel at Bella Vista - a business operated by past Redeemer students, Shady and Shahir Mikhael. This was an inspiration – Christian Worldview worked out in the market place!

• Year 11 students went to the Sydney Op-era House for an inspired Sydney Symphony Concert called Hollywood Rhapsody, fea-turing orchestral film music from the 1930s through to the 1950s.

• Year 12 Economics students attended an all-day seminar at Wesley Mission.

Civil OccasionsTwo of our Year 12 students, Hasini Wakista and Jonathan Kew, attended the annual leadership day at NSW Parliament House and Government House, along with leaders from many other schools.

The School leadership team attended the annual City Bible Forum Prayer Breakfast where the Governor of the Reserve Bank, Glenn Stevens, was the inspirational speak-er.

Intel ISEF (International Science and Engi-neering Fair) Awards – Phoenix, ArizonaAt the beginning of this term, I attended Intel ISEF with one of our Year 11 students, James Poyitt, who had been selected to represent Australia by STANSW Young Scientist. James invented the ‘Leg-e-vator’, a comfortably-fitted device that would allow someone with a leg injury or circulation problem to elevate their injured leg when seated. James was featured in a Science News article and won a USD $48,000 schol-arship to the University of Arizona. James was the only non-American to win a univer-sity scholarship.

James was our 13th representative to ISEF. Our School is widely regarded in Australia for excellence in student scientific investiga-tions.

Our senior Science and Mathematics teach-er, Stuart Garth, led one of the Australian teams at ISEF.

Funeral for Bill NeishAnother significant event that occurred this term was the celebration service in Sar-good Hall for the life of Bill Neish. Bill Neish has contributed significantly to Redeemer Baptist School through voluntary assistance as an accountant in the School Office and

through generous contributions towards the purchase of the School campus along with other members of Redeemer Baptist Church.

Upcoming Events• Years 11 and 12 Study Camp on the South Coast at Wairo Beach from Friday, 24th June to Friday, 1st July.

• Boggabilla Mission involving Year 10 students from Friday, 8th July to Wednesday, 13th July.

• Five of our School Staff leave for a 5-week study tour of Europe on Wednesday, 22nd June.

• One major date change for Term Three: Years 1-4 (Module L & M) Open Day will be in Week 3 on Thursday, 4th August.• Monday, 5th September, Subject Informa-tion Evening, Years 8, 10 & 11.

• Senior Drama Club Performances are on 31st August, 1st & 3rd September.

Final Remarks The 2015 Annual Report has just been pub-lished and it is another impressive record of the School’s life over the past year. You can access this on the School’s website.

We look forward to another term as produc-tive as this one as we partner with you, par-ents and guardians, in the education of your children – not only in academics but also in skills for life that are character building!

Yours sincerely,

Jonathan CannonPrincipal 4
