GOD’s Hand in Our Favor

Ptr. Henry Brown

REDEEMING RUTH #2:

Page 3: REDEEMING RUTH 2 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 6:30PM Evening Service

Ruth 2:1-131 Now Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a

worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi,

“Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.”

And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”

Ruth 2:1-133 So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to

the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech. 4 And behold, Boaz came

from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord

bless you.”

Ruth 2:1-135 Then Boaz said to his young man who was in

charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?” 6 And the servant who was in charge of the

reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite woman, who came back with Naomi from the

country of Moab.

Page 6: REDEEMING RUTH 2 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 6:30PM Evening Service

Ruth 2:1-137 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.’ So she came, and she has continued from early morning until now, except for a short rest.” 8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to

my young women.

Page 7: REDEEMING RUTH 2 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 6:30PM Evening Service

Ruth 2:1-139 Let your eyes be on the field that they are

reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are

thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn.” 10 Then she fell on her face,

bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take

notice of me, since I am a foreigner?”

Page 8: REDEEMING RUTH 2 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 6:30PM Evening Service

Ruth 2:1-1311 But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done

for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land

and came to a people that you did not know before.

Ruth 2:1-1312 The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” 13 Then she said, “I have found favor in

your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one

of your servants.”

Gleaning is the equivalent to social services, food bank, homeless shelter, soup kitchen, food stamps. That’s the

Hebrew equivalent.

THIS ISN’T HAPPENSTANCE, CIRCUMSTANCE, FORTUNE, CHANCE.

THIS IS PROVIDENCE.

James 1:1717 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or

shadow due to change. ESV

Now in this, what we see is that Ruth is a woman of outstanding character

• She’s not looking for a handout.

• She’s working hard. She’s honest.

Now in this, what we see is that Ruth is a woman of outstanding character

• She’s worked hard all day to feed herself and her mother-in-law.

• She, in many ways, illustrates the Proverbs 31 sort of great woman with a great work ethic

Protector, provider, defender, Boaz, man of war.

WHY IS THEIR STORY VERY RELEVANT TO US TODAY?

Page 24: REDEEMING RUTH 2 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 6:30PM Evening Service

Matthew 1:1919 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to

divorce her quietly. NIV

THE STORY OF RUTH SHOWS US THE PICTURE OF THE WONDERFUL, FAVOR OF GOD THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

JESUS.

Revelation 19:7-87 Let us rejoice and be gladand give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his

bride has made herself ready.8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to

wear.” NIV

Page 28: REDEEMING RUTH 2 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 6:30PM Evening Service

Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.

Ruth 2:15-1715 As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, “Let her gather among the sheaves

and don’t reprimand her. 16 Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them

for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke her.”17 So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening.

Then she threshed the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah. NIV

That is, probably about 30 pounds or about 13 kilograms

Boaz has gone far beyond on the law, all the way to grace. He Is done way beyond what she

could have asked, or hoped for.
