The Project The redevelopment of the former Bronte Hostel on Newport Road, Cardiff. This project has seen the site of the former hostel regenerated to provide a 4 storey block of 38 new homes—16 x 1 bed and 22x 2 bed apartments for rent. The new homes were developed by housing association Linc Cymru in partnership with the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council. All homes were built to Welsh Housing Quality Standards and achieved the Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 +. How the contract was delivered successfully? Lovell worked closely with Linc team Project/ Site management, commercial by Lovell Team. Work undertaken by Sub contract trades managed by the Lovell Team. Logical programming and sequencing of works to minimise disruption to neighbouring residents and the community Flexible approach to a restricted site Training & Employment Benefits Leaving a Legacy We invited Cardiff-based students behind the scenes at the development, which saw 24 second-year BSc / March students from the Welsh School of Architecture visiting site to see construction progress . Linc Cymru’s Tim Crooks – who gave a presentation to the students with Lovell site manager - says: “This was a chance for the architecture students to see construction work under way on a large-scale scheme and appreciate how designs are translated into reality when a project is actually built.
