Leader: We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen
Confession and forgiveness
Leader: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, let us confess our sins to God.All: Lord, hear our confession.Leader: For the times we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. All: Lord, we confess our sin.Leader: For the times we have not loved you with our whole heart. All: Lord, we confess our sin.Leader: For the times we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. All: Lord, we confess our sin.Leader: For the times we have ignored your call to remember the poor and the oppressed. All: Lord, we confess our sin.Leader: Almighty God, in his great mercy, has given his Son Jesus to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen
5. In the cross of Christ I glory, there for all was grace made free none deserving, yet receiving life thro’ death at Calvary.

Hymn Blessed Assurance assurance
Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And also with you.
Prayer of tHe dayLeader: Lord Jesus, your death on the cross is a stumbling block to the religious and foolishness to intellectuals, but to those who are called you are the power, wisdom, and salvation of God. You have freed us from sin and empowered us to build the kingdom of heaven on earth. Protect us from evil, heal our pain, fill us with joy, draw us close to the fellowship of your people, and empower us to be your willing servants. Hear us as we lift our voices as one to sing praise and glory to your Holy Name . . .All: Amen. Let it be so!

lesson 1 Corinthians 1:18-25
lesson Isaiah 53:4-6
For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.
Read in unisonSurely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases;yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities;upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way,and the lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

aPostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again.

Holy gosPel Mark 8:34-37All: Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? Indeed, what can they give in return for their life?” All: Praise to you, O Christ.
