Her presentation was great! Robyn is such an inspiration as a speaker and a weaver. I am sure I will use many of her “devil’s details” in my design and weaving. If you use any of her suggestions, make sure to mention it when you show and share your weaving. In March, we have exciting arts events to attend. I’ll mention the important dates below for “Strings Attached: Tradition Meets Contemporary Woven Art” at the Pasadena Museum of History March 5th - May 15th. We will be sending flyers and other information in a PDF to you as well. Be sure to attend the exhibit and support your local weavers and spinners! Do not come to our regular meeting place in Redlands, but journey west and join us at Maloof’s home in Rancho Cucamonga. I visited the museum today with my family and I highly recommend the tour. Not only is it the celebration of his hundredth birthday year (which includes more of his amazing furniture to view,) but our fiber friend Bill Kleese will be one of the docent’s taking us around Maloof’s amazing house and art collection. The collections’ textiles are delightful to see, as well as his beautiful furniture. Car pool with your weaving and spinning friends and be ready for an inspiring day. Keep weaving, spinning and creating! There’s lots out there to see and experience. Don’t miss a minute. Kathleen Waln

Strings Tradition Meets Contemporary Woven Art

March 5 to May 15, 2016 Autumn, by Susan Beeler Anderson, 2015 (25 x 26in)

On March 5, 2016, Pasadena Museum of History will unveil a new exhibition displaying remarkable contemporary and traditional weaving. This art, created by the members of the Bobbinwinder’s Guild of the San Gabriel Valley, is inspired by modern global aesthetics and production techniques, as well as historical techniques of weaving and design. For sixty years, the Bobbinwinder’s Guild has fostered the ancient tradition of weaving, producing superb fine and decorative art. In June 1955, when orange groves still dominated the landscape in the Pomona and San Gabriel Valleys, fifteen weavers gathered to celebrate their craft and became the founding members of the organization. The work of local weavers will be showcased in this exhibition. Examples of looms and other tools of the trade will also be on display, and demonstrations of the weaver’s technique will be offered periodically. Dates to watch: Saturday March 5th -- Opening Reception -- 2-4pm Free Admission! Friday March 11th -- “Art Night” -- 6-10pm Tues.
