§ 2.1c

Substitution of a playerThe referee raises his hands above hishead and with the forefinger of each handpointing towards each other moves hishands back and forth.

§ 3.1a

Stopping playing timeThe referee lifts the arm on which he iswearing his watch and with the hand ofthe other arm indicates that he will stophis stopwatch.To indicate the restart of the playingtimehe gives the same signal and restarts hisstopwatch.

§ 3.1b

Time outTo indicate the awarding of a timeout,the referee makes a ‘Tsignal’ with bothhands.

§ 3.4

Changing zones aftertwo goalsThe referee makes a circling movementwith one finger above his head.

§ 3.6a

To touch the ball withleg or footThe referee touches the outside of his legbelow the knee with one of his hands. Theleg can be lifted.

§ 3.6b

To hit the ball with thefistThe referee lifts an arched arm, clencheshis fist and moves the arm slightly up anddown.

§ 3.6c

To take hold of, catchor tap the ball when anypart of the body otherthan the feet is touchingthe groundThe referee stoops down and touches theground.

§ 3.6d

To run with the ballThe referee lifts both arms in front of hisbody and makes a turning movement withboth hands

To hand the ball to another player of one’s own teamThe referee starts with his arms in front of his body with both hands vertical and makes arotation movement with both arms showing the giving of the ball to another player.

To knock, take or run the ball out of an opponentshandThe referee lifts one of his arms with palm of the hand facing upwards. With the other handhe makes a sweeping movement away from his body over the palm of the raised hand.The signal can be made above shoulder level when the rule is infringed whilst jumping.

To push, to cling to, or hold off an opponentPushing: The referee points the palms of both hands forward and makes a pushing movement with both arms.

To play outside one’szone and OutballUsing a flat hand the referee moves hisarm backwards and forwards as if along aline.

To shoot from adefended positionThe referee lifts his arm into a defendedshooting position.

To shoot after cuttingpast another attackerThe referee lifts both arms and crosseshis forearms in front of his body.

§ 3.6u

To play in a dangerousmannerThe referee lifts one of his forearms infront of his body with his palm verticaland open. Using the fist of the other handhe punches against the palm of his openhand whilst looking at the offending player.

RestartWhenever a restart is awarded the referee points to where the restart should betaken from and with the other arm givesthe direction.

4 Second RuleBreach of the 4 second rule:The referee raises one hand showing fourraised fingers of that hand.The same signal is also given at a freepass to indicate that he will whistle to restart the game witin, at the latest, 4 seconds.

§ 3.10

Free passWithin 2.5m after the referee has whistled to restart the game: The referee liftsboth forearms in front of his body with hispalms vertical and moves the palms ofboth hands towards each other.Remark: This signal is also given at thetaking of a penalty to indicate that a playerhas come within the penalty zone beforethe ball has left the taker’s hands and ata restart when the ball has not travelled2.50 m.

§ 3.10

Free passThe referee puts up his arm showing anopen palm and points to the penalty spot.This signal needs to be preceded by thesignal for the offence that has occurred.Note:Where the penalty spot is not used as theplace of the pass the referee maintainsthe signal and points to the spot wherethe free pass is to be taken from.

Repeat InfringementpenaltyPenalty for making infringements repeatedly: the referee points towards thepenalty spot with one outstretched armwhile lifting the other hand with two raisedfingers and looks towards the offender.

PenaltyDirect penalty: The referee points towards the penalty spot with one outstretched arm while blowing his whistle.

PenaltyDirect penalty: After pointing to thespot the referee points towards the korf.

§ 3.11

AdvantageThe referee raises both of his arms in thedirection of the play.

Shot Clock SignalThe signal of one arm raised with aclenched fist should be used to indicate tothe shot clock operator whenever it maynot be clear that the ball has touched thekorf within the allowed time.
