Materials Needed to Referee

Different Positions

• Center Referee

- Main Referee in the game

- The only ref with the whistle

- There to help the center referee

- Use the flags

- Main job is to watch for off sides

Center Referee Signals

Point in the direction the ball is going to be thrown to determine who gets the throw in after the ball has been kicked out of bounds.

This is to show that the defending team gets the ball for a goal kick after it goes out of bounds. This is to get it away from their goal.

This is to show that the opposing team gets the ball for a corner kick. This gives the team to kick into the goal box for a better chance to score.

Out of Bounds Signals

Cont. Center Referee SignalsSubstitution Signal

This signal is shown when the teams are allowed to substitute players in and out of the game. To do this signal the referee holds the hands where they are shown in the picture and they circle their hands in a backwards motion around each other.

Cont. Center Referee SignalsType of Foul Signals

This is to show that the foul committed only rewarded the opposing team with an indirect kick. This means that the opposing team cannot score directly off the kick.

This is to show that the foul committed has rewarded the opposing team with a direct kick. This means that they are allowed to score directly from the free kick.

Cont. Center Referee SignalsPlay on Signals

This signal means to play on. It shows that there was a foul committed, but the team that was fouled got the advantage from it.

This signal means that there was no foul committed even if it might have looked like there was one. It also means to play on.

Assistant Referee SignalsThrow Ins

On any out of bounds call on the side line, the A.R. helps the center referee by pointing their flag at about a forty-five degree angle in the direction the ball is supposed to go.

Cont. Assistant Referee SignalsOut of Bounds Corner and Goal Kicks

This signal is to show that the defending team gets the kick from the out of bounds. This is called a goal kick.

This to show that the opposing team gets the kick on the out of bounds. This is called a corner kick.

Cont. Assistant Referee SignalsFoul or Off Sides

When there is a foul the center referee may have missed, the A.R. can raise there flag and twirl it to indicate that it is a foul. When the center referee sees them the are to point in the direction the kick will be going. On an off sides case the A.R. raises there flag straight up. When the center referee sees them they lower the flag like they are pointing towards a goal kick.

Cont. Assistant Referee Signals

When the ball is out of bounds, teams are allowed to make a substitution if it is there throw in or if there is a goal kick. This is the signal the A.R. makes if the center does not realize that a team want to make a substitution.
