• P.O. Box 1029 • Dalhart, Texas 79022 305 East Pine St. • P.O. Reflection "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over." Zac- chaeus was serious about following Jesus. Maybe at the start he was just curious when he ran ahead to scale that sycamore tree. But that curiosity developed into a life-changing experience when Jesus called him by name. At that moment, when the Lord chose Zacchaeus to be his host for the evening, the rich tax collector "came down quickly and received him with joy." And shortly thereafter came his promise of conversion and penance. Not only would he change his ways; he would make up for his former ones. And thus Jesus declared, "Today salvation has come to this house." Penance isn't a popular concept in our modern era. We like to think about God's great mercy and forgiveness, but it's not so fun to think about the lingering effects of our sin. When Zacchaeus stole money, people suf- fered, especially the poor. His conversion to the ways of God wouldn't make up for the suffering he had inlicted on people. But his choice to go back and set things aright could make a difference. Sometimes, we are called to do something similar. Of course it is not always possible to go back and directly restore the relationships or situations that we have damaged through our sins. However, it IS always possible to offer a kind of sacriice--often called "making reparation"--for our sin. We can do something virtuous and offer it to God as a kind of deposit in the universal "bank" of goodness to make up for the unjust withdrawals we have previ- ously made. In this way, we too can show that we are serious about fol- lowing the Lord.

Reflexión

Hemos caminado juntos a lo largo del Ano de la Misericordia, tiempo en que el Papa Francisco y los obispos de nuestras diocesis nos han in-vitado a ver, palpar y vivir la misericordia del Padre. Llamados a ser mis-ericordiosos, la misericordia en la liturgia, las obras espirituales y corpo-rales a merced del amor de Dios entre nosotros. Y aun no terminamos, nos faltan tres domingos mas para concluir este Ano Santo. Hemos escu-chado cientos de veces que Dios perdona a todos, porque somos suyos, que Dios es misericordioso y perdonador. Pero, ahora, viene la pregunta que debe estar en nuestro corazon y meditarla siempre. ¿Somos nosotros de corazon misericordioso? ¿Se transformo durante este tiempo nuestra forma de vivir, de pensar y de hacer las cosas? Les comento esto porque las lecturas de hoy son ricas en recuperar esa serenidad y con#ianza, que todos necesitamos. Ya desde alla la imagen de Jesus invitando a Zaqueo que baje del arbol porque se hospedarıa en su casa se vislumbra. Reflection "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over." Zac-chaeus was serious about following Jesus. Maybe at the start he was just curious when he ran ahead to scale that sycamore tree. DEVOTION TO MARY (A Rose for Mary Ministry}

Blessed Virgin Mary Please Pray This Week Especially for

Leona Brunmeier

Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who !led to thy protection, im-plored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left un-aided. Inspired with this con!idence, I !ly to thee, O Vir-gin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incar-nate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

The Rose often symbolizes Mary, the Queen of Heaven. In rela-

tion to the Blessed Mother it displays perfect love, form, fra-

grance, and color. For Mary the thorns on the rose remind us

that Our Lord Jesus Christ wore a crown of thorns and gave up

his blood for all humanity, as His Mother, Mary witnessed this

suffering and death !irst hand at the foot of the cross.
