*******************************************************************
Welcome to worship. Today we are using Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the
red book, found in the pew racks for our hymns.
Introduction to the day: On this day we celebrate the heart of our faith: the gospel
of Christ—the good news—that makes us free! We pray that the Holy Spirit would
continue to unite the church today in its proclamation and witness to the world. In
the waters of baptism we are made one body; we pray for the day that all Christians
will also be one at the Lord’s Table.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Almighty God, gracious Lord, we thank you that your Holy Spirit renews the
church in every age. Pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them
steadfast in your word, protect and comfort them in times of trial, defend them against all enemies of the gospel, and bestow on the church your saving peace,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

WORD
A Reading from Exodus 1Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD:
"I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously;
horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.
2The LORD is my strength and my might,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.
4"Pharaoh's chariots and his army he cast into the sea;
his picked officers were sunk in the Red Sea.
5The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone.
6Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power —
your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy.
7In the greatness of your majesty you overthrew your adversaries;
you sent out your fury, it consumed them like stubble.
8At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up,
the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
9The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them.
I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'
10You blew with your wind, the sea covered them;
they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11"Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods?
Who is like you, majestic in holiness,
awesome in splendor, doing wonders?
12You stretched out your right hand,
the earth swallowed them.
13"In your steadfast love you led the people whom you redeemed;
you guided them by your strength to your holy abode.
(Exodus 15: 1-13)

PSALM 46/ Children’s Sermon
1God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
3though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
6The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
8Come, behold the works of the LORD;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
9He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10"Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth."
11The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

A Reading from the Ephesians 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the
blood of Christ. 14For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one
and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. 15He has
abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in
himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, 16and might
reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death
that hostility through it. 17So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off
and peace to those who were near; 18for through him both of us have access in one
Spirit to the Father. 19So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are
citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, 20built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the
cornerstone. 21In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy
temple in the Lord; 22in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling
place for God. (Ephesians 2:13-22)
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Gospel Luke 24: 44-49
The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke.
44Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you — that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and
the psalms must be fulfilled." 45Then he opened their minds to understand the
scriptures, 46and he said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, 47and that repentance and forgiveness of
sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48You
are witnesses of these things. 49And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on
high."
The Gospel of the Lord.
SERMON:
Confession and Forgiveness
Blessed be the Holy Trinity, ☩ one God,
who forgives all our sin,
whose mercy endures forever.
Amen.
God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from
our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may
confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ,
our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
10
Gracious God,
have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you and given
ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry and humbly repent. In your
compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things we have done and
things we have failed to do. Turn us again to you, and uphold us by your
Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in newness of life through Jesus
Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us
alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of ☩ Jesus
Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through
the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith.
Amen.
MEDITATION
HYMN OF THE DAY Lord, Keep us Steadfast in Your Word #517
APOSTLE’S CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen

your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OFFERTORY PRAYER
Merciful God, as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills
were gathered together to become one bread, so let your church be gathered together
from the ends of the earth into your kingdom,
for yours is the glory through Jesus Christ, now and forever.
Amen.
MEAL
GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy… and join their unending hymn:
13
SANCTUS
WORDS OF INSTITUTION In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
14
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever and forever. Amen.
