Precision processing of granular materials has been a core competency of the Nordic Graphite team for decades. Nordic Graphite consistently delivers high-‐quality, uniquely-‐sized materials with the correct morphology to meet the most sensitive customer requirements. We deliver particle size distributions based on customer needs from millimeter down to micron scale. We work with a full range of materials including refined flake, flake concentrates, amorphous, and vein natural graphites. Natural Graphite We focus on natural graphite because of its proven nature-‐derived cost -‐and vast environmental emissions advantage over synthetic graphite and artificially produced carbons.
Flake graphite is a naturally occurring form of graphite. It is the strongest and lightest material with the highest melting point on earth. It is further distinguished by being inert, non-‐toxic and impermeable to all matter including gases, with uniquely high thermal and electric conductivity, and up to 25% stretch -‐ability. Flake graphite has been proven in many applications including powder metallurgy, fuel cell bipolar plates, coatings,
thermal materials, friction moderators, electrically conductive materials, refractories, general lubricant applications, pencils, gaskets, rubber compounds and construction materials. It is lab-‐demonstrated to potentially replace silicon and copper in its key applications because of its above qualities, including superconductivity at room temperature. Carbon Content: 70 – 99.9% Particle sizes: 20 mesh to 1 μm Expandable flake graphite is an intercalation compound of graphite, which exfoliates when heated. This material is manufactured by treating flake graphite with various intercalation reagents. These reagents migrate between the graphene layers of a graphite crystal and remain as stable species. If exposed to a rapid increase in temperature, the decomposition of the intercalants develops enough force to push apart the graphene layers resulting in an increase in the volume of the graphite of up to 300 times, a lowering of bulk density and approximately a 10-‐fold increase in surface area. Carbon Content: 90 – 99.9% Expansion ratio: 70 -‐ 300 ml/g pH: 2 -‐ 8 Proprietary Products
