Refrigerators are provided in the Graduate Residence Hall. The refrigerator must be an energy-efficient model and may not exceed five (5) cubic feet in size. Personal microwaves are prohibited in on-campus residence hall rooms and suites. The University has made arrangements with a vendor to provide both refrigerator and refrigerator/microwave rental units at competitive prices. It is best to make this decision in consultation with your roommate(s). For safety reasons, only refrigerator/freezer/ microwave multi-units rented through a University-sanctioned vendor are permitted in on-campus residence halls. All persons entering a residence hall, both residents and nonresidents, must present acceptable identification before being admitted to the building. The only acceptable form of identification for a Hofstra student is a current and valid HofstraCard. COLONIAL SQUARE-PLYMOUTH HOUSEGraduate and law students may select suites with super single rooms. All suites contain two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a lounge.

Colonial Square AmenitiesEach individual bedroom is furnished with a twin bed, wardrobe, desk with hutch, and desk chair. Each bedroom has a window and an individually controlled heating and air-conditioning unit. Each room is equipped with a phone, satellite TV hookup, and Internet service. Each building has a common area kitchen where students can prepare meals.

The first floor houses the primary common area, which is a collaborative space for six to eight people to work. This lounge features a large screen display system, whiteboards, moveable furniture and chairs to enable “in the-moment” seating arrangements based on group needs, and individual work spaces. The first floor also houses a laundry room.

WHAT TO BRINGWe encourage residents to bring personal items to make their living experience more enjoyable. Due to space limitations, we suggest that residents consult with suitemates regarding what items each will bring in order to avoid duplicates. Suggested items include a desk lamp, area rug(s), television(s), cooking utensils, dishware, drinkware, and microfridge.

Note: One (1) coffeemaker and One (1) toaster are permitted in the Graduate Residence Hall only.

PROHIBITED ITEMSIn order to keep both the Graduate Residence Hall and Colonial Square safe living communities, we do not permit the following items in the residence halls: extension cords, curtains, tapestries, electric grills, candles, incense, halogen lamps, rice cookers and toaster ovens. All furniture and room furnishings must be fire retardant. For a complete list of prohibited items, please refer to the Electrical Appliances Policy and Fire Safety Guidelines of The Living Factor, which can be accessed online athofstra.edu/ResLife.

COOKING IN THE RESIDENCE HALLSCooking is permitted only in the kitchen areas of each residence hall. Residents may cook in their rooms only if they use a University-approved refrigerator/microwave unit. Common area kitchens are equipped with an oven, stove and/or microwave. There are various food and beverage vending machines located in the lobbies or lounges of the residence halls.

The Office of Residential Programs is pleased to offer two types of comfortable living environments geared toward meeting the diverse needs of our graduate, law and medical students.

GRADUATE RESIDENCE HALLThe Graduate Residence Hall is a five-story residential facility composed of 58 fully furnished suites housing more than 200 graduate, law and medical students. Some suites offer three or four single bedrooms, while other suites have two double bedrooms where students share a bedroom with a roommate. Each room is equipped with a phone, satellite TV hookup, and Internet service.

Graduate Residence Hall AmenitiesThe suites in the Graduate Residence Hall are furnished. Individual bedrooms offer a twin bed, wardrobe, desk with hutch, and a desk chair. Every bedroom also has a window and an individually controlled heating and air-conditioning unit. Each common area includes a couch, two chairs, and coffee tables. The kitchenettes are complete with a stovetop burner, refrigerator, microwave, and kitchen table with chairs. Installed in the facility are fire sprinkler systems, two hydraulic elevators, and three stairways. The first floor houses the primary meeting and common area lounges, while each floor is equipped with a laundry room, recycling room, and two study rooms. The Graduate Residence Hall is accessible to persons with disabilities.
