3R Do A Good Deed Every Day
In Year 3R we do at least one good deed every day.
As a gesture of gratitude for keeping our school
green and clean, we said thank you to our Admin
staff especially to our gardeners and cleaners by
giving them a carton of juice to keep them going.
Thank you very much.
The 2016 Parents’ Forum – Thursday 25th
February 2016
This year’s Parents’ Forum will be held on
Thursday 25th February, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00
p.m. All current parents of the School are welcome
and are encouraged to attend. The event is not open
to friends, relatives, your representatives or to
children, please.
The evening will be in two parts: from 4:30 until
5:00 p.m., the classrooms will be open and all the
teaching resources will be on display. This will be
your opportunity to see at close hand the books and
other resources we use in teaching the children and
to talk to the teachers about them. We also
encourage you to visit our ICT suites – located in
both Upper and Lower Primary Departments – the
Upper Primary Library and our Art Room, Science
Laboratory, French and Music Rooms.
At 5:00 p.m. the classrooms will close and we will
move to the Forum venue on the basketball court
for the Question and Answer part of the evening.
The Head will give a brief overview of the year
and The Board and Senior Management will be
available to answer any questions about the
school you may wish clarification on. Light
refreshments will be served. We aim to conclude
the event by 6:00p.m.
Parents will receive a letter explaining the above. We welcome your questions on any aspect of school
life and we strongly encourage you to send these on
the Question Slips to arrive on or before Monday
22nd February. In this way, we will be able to
prepare the necessary information and provide
detailed answers at the meeting. So long as time
allows, there will be a chance to put questions at the
meeting itself, but I am sure parents will understand
that the information given in response is unlikely to
be as detailed as we will be able to give for those
questions asked in advance.
We look forward to seeing many of you there.

birthday invitation card for their best friend. This
is a piece designed by Anviti Chauhan in Year 3R.
Bon Travail Anviti !
From the Library
The Author of the Month this February in the
Lower Primary Library is Norman Bridwell.
Norman
Bridwell was
born on the 15th
of February
1928. He was
the creator of
the children’s
book series
called ‘Clifford
the Big Red
Dog.’ The idea
behind
Bridwell’s
series was
conceived out of
his dream as a
little boy.
He dreamt of owning a big dog that he could ride and
have as his best friend. According to him, he wanted
to name the dog Tiny but his wife brought the name
Clifford. Clifford’s young companion in the story
Emily was named after Bridwell’s daughter. The
theme of the Clifford the Red Dog series is kindness.
Norman Bridwell was married with a wife Norma
Bridwell and they had two children Tim and Emily.
He died on the 12th of December 2014 at the age of 86
years.
WALT: Write sentences to form a poem.
Thursday 28th January 2016.
The tiniest sound in the world must be
A little ant climbing up a tree
The spookiest sound in the world must be
A scary villain shouting at me
The nosiest sound in the world must be
A creepy crawly climbing on me
The happiest sound in the world must be
Me eating sweets when I brush my teeth

Chinese New Year Festival in Year 2
– The Year of the Monkey.
The Year 2 classes shared a day
of activities today, Friday
February 5th, to celebrate the
Chinese New Year as the exit
point activity for their
Geography topic ‘A Visit to
China’.
The children were able to participate in a wide
variety of activities; including a traditional Dragon
Dance, Fan dance, making prawn crackers,
celebrating The Year of the Monkey, practising some
martial arts with an expert and learning some simple
Chinese words. Finally, the favourite activity of the
day, a Chinese lunchtime feast, including wontons,
fried rice, noodles, Spring rolls and even some sweet
and sour dishes, all provided by the parents to make
the day authentic. Some of the children even tried to
use chop-sticks!
The children also
provided
traditional ‘red
envelopes’, as red
is an auspicious
colour, which are
given on this day
with money inside
to family or
charity.
Our children raised a good sum and this money is to
be donated to the Kano Heart Foundation as today is
also Heart Awareness Day.
A Diary Date: The children in Year 2 have been
invited to the Chinese Cultural Centre on Monday
February 22nd 2016 to further experience the cultural
delights of this fascinating country.
A big thank you to Coach Sam from the China
Cultural Centre for teaching the children some Kung
Fu routines.
Thank you also goes to Kevin Hu 1S for teaching
the children how to count in Chinese.
Heart Awareness Day
Today is World Heart
Awareness Day.
The Regent School
marked the day by
inviting Tabitha Medical
Centre to conduct free
biometrics checks and
counselling for all our
esteemed parents.
A big thank you to Dr
Chitto Nwana and the
Tabitha Medical Centre
Team for conducting these free checks. I am sure that
the parents benefitted from the exercise.
A big thank you to
Nurse Chioma for
the very informa-
tive an interesting
Assembly she
delivered this
morning in front
of the Upper
Primary Children.
Children thoroughly enjoyed The Question and
Answer session.
Happy Heart Awareness Day.
Humanities Day
Our Year 6 Humanities Day was filled with fun and
learning as the children got a rare opportunity back in
time to the Ancient British era!
We had the splendid chance of receiving a talk from
our Headmaster Mr. Dickson who is not just our
Head but also a fantastic History teacher with so
many years of teaching experience on the subject. He
took the children through some significant periods
and events in the history of Britain and also the
various wars that was waged during those times. The
children were really thrilled to have such depth of
exposition on the British history and had the
opportunity to ask loads of question.
We also had another guest speaker, in the person of
Mr. Robin Griffith (Year 5A Teacher). He also took
the children down memory lane talking about the
British Monarchs and their powers during their reign
and the introduction of the Parliament and how that
now took the front burner of governance in Britain
today.
The children ended the day with an exhibition of
ancient phones to our current trendy and
sophisticated phones that we have today. We had on
display, Ancient analogue phones, and several other
phones as the communication technology advanced
over the years. It was a day filled with great fun and
learning.
A huge thank you to Mr. Dickson, Mr. Griffith and
the entire Year 6 team for a well organised
Humanities day!
The Regent Secondary School Funfair Tomorrow
Year 6 Horizon Lecture
The Year 6 ‘Horizon Lecture’ on Friday 29th January
was very enlightening! The children listened to two
educative talks delivered by Mrs. Nkonye Duru, a
parent and Ms. Chioma Ofoegbu, our School Nurse.
The guests spoke to the children separately about the
importance of making responsible choices in life and
about the dangers of infectious diseases – with a
particular reference to ‘Lasa Fever’.
Mrs. Duru’s advice resonated positively with the
children, drawing from her experience as a mother
and an architect. She reminded the children of life’s
reality: that their choices of friends, lifestyles and
careers today would ultimately affect how they
handle the opportunities that come their way
tomorrow. She urged them to learn to avoid peer
pressure, to be goal-getters and to work hard and
apply themselves at all times. “What is worth doing
at all, is worth doing well”, she retorted.
On her part, gave a brisk but informative description
of some infectious diseases. She also offered some
tips on how these diseases can be avoided or
controlled. Specifically, she elucidated on the
dangers in contacting ‘Conjunctivitis’, ‘Ring Worm’,
‘Chicken Pox’, ‘Head Lice’ and ‘Lasa fever’. She
spoke explicitly about the dreaded ‘Lasa Fever’,
painting a vivid picture of the deadly virus! ‘You
should do everything to avoid it’, she said.
The children really enjoyed the lectures. “What I
learnt from the Nurse’s lecture is that, for many
illnesses, the prevention is hygiene”, says Keneolisa
Oreh (6A). It was indeed a deep learning curve for
the Year 6 children. A very big THANK YOU to our
distinguished guests for their time and brilliant
presentations.
5R Class Assembly
In Mathematics this term, Year 5 have been learning
about shapes. Therefore the key focus of our
Assembly was ‘Geometry’. In our play titled ‘Sir
Cumference and the Knights of the Round Table’,
the Knights and King Arthur searched for a table to
discuss a solution to their problems as their enemies
gathered around their kingdom. However another
problem arose, the Knights fought over the shape of
their meeting tables that Geo-of-Metry made for
them. At last Sir Cumference, his wife Lady Di of
Ameter and their son Radius saved the day by
designing a round table.
As you might have noticed our main characters were
named after the properties of a circle.
Finally the assembly ended with some interactive
‘Magic trick’ using numbers.
