Regional and Suburban Transport ITINO * family New concepts in rail transport result in a requirement for modern and economic vehicles for regional networks. Bombardier Transportation's ITINO product family aims to fulfil this changing demand. On the basis of other operationally successful vehicles Bombardier Transportation has developed a product family, which sets new standards in regard to safety, reliability, design and ride comfort. The ITINO product family comprises low-floor vehicles with diesel propulsion, capable of maximum speeds of up to 160 km/h. The vehicle’s modular design enables the creation of individual solutions and vehicle configurations on the basis of specific customer needs.

The vehicle’s carbody has an aluminum integral construction. The fiberglass panelingon interior side walls and roof enable a modular design of the passenger compartment.The carbody sits on bogies fitted with air suspension. The bogie frame is supported bythe primary suspension arranged in pairs on the wheelset bearing housing. Both themotor and Jacobs trailer bogies have electro-pneumatic wheel disk brake systems.A magnet rail brake is installed in the motor bogie. Each braking function is reinforcedby wear-free brakes. The ITINO has necessary retarder for this integrated in the auto-matic gears.

The ITINO satisfies the higher expecta-tions of both operators and passengers.An attractive design provides an appea-ling exterior. As far as the interior fittingswere concerned, particular attentionwas paid to the effective use of spaceand balanced ride comfort. In addition toseats in rows or opposite one another,the seat configuration can also be adap-ted to individual customer requirement.Regardless of the configuration selec-ted, the trapeze-shaped windows al-ways give an excellent view of the outsi-de world. A multipurpose compartmentoffers space for prams, wheelchairusers, heavy luggage and bicycles.The vehicle concept also includes amodern passenger information system,a video monitoring system, a closed toilet for the disabled, as well as air con-ditioning in both the passenger com-partment and driver's cab. Wide doors(1 400 mm), an entry area at platformlevel and generously proportionedconnections in the vehicle's interiorensure a rapid and safe passengerexchange.

All elements of modern vehicle designwere realized and future crash require-ments considered in the development ofthe ITINO product family. The ITINOachieves very good acceleration valuesand a maximum speed of up to 160km/h based on the two separately func-tioning diesel motors. The ITINO thusfulfils the growing requirements placedon regional rail transport by operatorsand even enables use in inter-regionalapplication.

Optimal energy consumption values areachieved by the lightweight design: TheITINO’s power weight is approximately12 kW/t (operating weight at 50 %capacity). Noise emission is reduced toa minimum by noise protection meas-ures and motor containment, thus ena-bling night-time operations even inurban areas.

The individual train configuration with2-, 3- and 4-car vehicles also allowseconomic operations on lines with vary-ing passenger demand. The vehiclescan be operated in multiple traction con-figurations.

The production of the ITINO is carriedout based on strict environmental guide-lines: Since 1998 all BombardierTransportation locations involved in pro-duction are certified in accordance withISO 14001 (ecological audit).
