WhoShouldCompletethisProgrammeThisprogrammeisdesignedforpeoplewhowishtoachieveaNationalCertificate,butdonotwanttorelocate,orloseasalaryforthetimeperiodtogainsuchqualification.TheprogrammedesignallowsthestudenttointegratethetheoreticalandpracticalcomponentsofthisprogrammethroughWorkIntegrated Learning. TimeCommitment forEachCertificateThe theoretical component of this qualificationwill require a time commitment of 6 months ofstudy per course. The theoretical component is complimented with 24 months practicalexperienceintherespectiveareaofstudywhichwill lead to the achievement of the NationalTechnicalDiploma.

Each N4, N5, N6 certificate requires 30 hoursattendance online. There are 4 subjects; thusmeaningthatyourequire120hoursattendanceonline.Inaddition,youneedtoplanfor60hoursself-study for each certificate (or 15 hours persubject).Thisrequiresyoutodedicateatleast7to 10 hours per week in total to achievingsuccess.

You will attend 4 tutorial sessions per weekonline each of 1.5 hours length at your choiceduringworkinghoursorintheeveningafter6pm,studying two (2) subjects per trimester. In addition, you are required to spend another 3 hours on assignments (mainly problem-solving),labsandself-study.

You will be required to attend at least 80% ofthesetutorialsessions(fromanylocationaslongasyouhaveanInternetconnection).

LiveWebinarsDuring the programme you will participate inlive interactive sessions/webinars with thelecturers and other participants from around theworld.Eachwebinarwillbescheduledat2varyingsession times, so that you can select the onewhichismostconvenienttoyou.Uponapprovalofyourapplicationyouwill receiveaquestionnaireregardingyourtimeavailability.Wewillendeavourtoensurethatatleastonesessiontime,foreachwebinar, will fall into your preferred time slot.Recordings of the live sessions are also madeavailableforstudents.

Whataretheadvantagesofstudyingonline?Weknowthatmanypotentialstudentshavepartorfull-timeemploymentaswellas familycommitments,so finding the timetostudyaclassroombased programme is not always possible. Many students also havegeographical, travel and time limitations and do not have an accessibleinstitution or training provider. We have taken this into consideration anddevelopedanaffordable, flexible,onlineapproachtotraining.Thismeansthatyoucanstudyfromanywhere,withminimumdowntimefromwork–butstillhave thenecessary interactive learningexperience.Thesoftwarewe use does not require very fast internet connection or a sophisticatedcomputer.Abasicconnectionandhardwarearesufficient.

Doesn’titgetboring?Howcanane-learningprogrammebeinteractive?Boredom can be a real risk in any form of learning; however, we use aninteractive approach to our e-learning – with live sessions (instead ofrecordings)formostpresentations.Thewebinarsoftwareallowseveryoneto interact and involves participants in group work; including hands-onexerciseswithsimulationsoftwareandremotelaboratorieswherepossible.Youcancommunicatewithtextmessages,orliveVoIPspeech,orcanevendraw on the whiteboard during the sessions. This all helps to keep youmotivatedandinterested.

Whatdolivewebinarsinvolve?These are live, interactive sessions over the Internet. You will join thelecturer and other participants from around the world in an online virtualclassroomwhereyouareabletowatchapresentation,andcommunicatewiththelecturerandotherstudentsviaaudio,textmessagingordrawingonthe whiteboard. Each webinar is between 60 and 90 minutes in durationand therewillbeat least1sessionscheduledoneachpresentationday.Thisallowsyoutoselectthesessionwhichismostconvenient.

WhatifIcannotjoinorImissalivewebinar?Webinars are recorded and available to students upon request. onerequirement of the programme is that you join at least 80% of the livesessions. You can “pause and restart” by joining asubsequent intake (a rejoining fee mayapply).Wewillallowupto3yearsfromyouroriginalstartdatetocompletetheprogram.
