MDIS 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament 2014 

General Rules & Regulations

1.  All entries together with the registration fee must be received by 3 March 2014 (Friday). Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are advised to submit their applications early to avoiddisappointment. Proof of posting will not be considered as proof of receipt.

2.  Each team will comprise a maximum four players and minimum three players. Only three players are allowed on the playing court at any one time. Substitution is allowed only after obtaining permission from the referee.

3.  Only participants listed in the registration forms will be allowed to play in the tournament. Participants are not allowed to register for more than one team.

4.  Boys’(Under 17) Category is based on the calendar year. (As of 1 January 2014/ Born in 1996 & Above)

5.  Any rough play or unsporting behaviour before, during and after the game will automatically be disqualified.

6.  All participants are required to wear proper basketball attire and sport shoes. MDIS shall not be held liable for a ny injury or loss suffered by participants during the tournament.

7.  Play shall be conducted according to the rules and regulations of MDIS 3-on-3 Basketball Competition. Referees and committees decisions are final.

8.  Failure to observe the rules and regulations will result in disqualification and no refund will be given.

9.  System of play would be determined after the closing date. Fixtures to the tournament would be emailed to the captain at least three days prior to the tournament date.

10.  Any matters arising that is not covered in these rules and regulations shall be decided by the Committee. All decisions made shall be final, subject only to a written appeal made to the Committee within 24 hours fromwhen the decision was made.

Tournament Information

1.  All captains must confirm their registration on-site for the referee’s briefing on the competition day at 8.30am sharp.

2.  Participants are to check their own fixtures from the competition notice board and report to the competition venue 10 minutes before their game. Failure to report will result in an immediate walkover.

Game Rules & Regulations

1.  Captains must report 10 minutes before match starts.

2.  If the full team is not present (less than 2 players at the court), a 1 minute grace is allowed. After which the action constitutes a walkover and the game is forfeited.

3.  Game is played on a single knock-out system.

4.  Team that appears on the left of each fixture will have the first possession of ball; this will be determined by drawing of lots by the organizer.

5.  The tournament shall be conducted in a ccordance with the official 33 Basketball Rules and Regulations of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

Timing

6.  Each game last ten minutes with no half time.

7.   No shot-clock system (24 Sec Rule) will be used throughout the game.

Change of Possession

8.  The “check line” is determined by the three point arc. The ball must be beyond the arch at the beginning of each half. 

9.  The ball must be checked by an opposing player before it is put into play. The player must pass t he ball in while standing out-of-bounds at the top of the court to begin play.

10.  On defensive rebounds (including airballs) and steals, the ball must be passed or dribbled beyond the arc. The ball does not need to be given to a different player. As long as the ball goes beyond the arc, there are nolimitations on who can shoot it.

11. 

The defensive teams may only hold the ball for 2 seconds while checking. Defending players are not permitted after the “check line” zone until the ball has been passed. The offensive teams must pass the ball from the“check  line” zone within 5 seconds. 

12.  If the ball is knocked out of bounds or goes across the mid court line, it shall be awarded to the opposing team.

13.  There are no jump balls. Jump balls will be called by the referee and will go to the defense. Jump ball on a rebound will go to the team that is on defence.

 Points System

14.  The Three Point Shot is in effect and 2 points will be awarded for a shot made behind the arc and 1 point for any shot made on or within the arc.

15.  If a basket is made in the course of a player being fouled, then a foul shot will be awarded and the goal is also credited.

16.  In the event of a tie, the winner shall be decided by way of a free throw shootout with 1 player from each team given a chance to shoot.
