In these uncertain times we are looking to provide programs and activities for all residents this summer.
This brochure provides information on what we are planning to offer.
All programs are subject to change. Updates will be posted on our website and Facebook page.
MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
As we are currently keeping up with news updates and on social media
for what is going on in the world around us, it is imperative for us to step
back and focus on what is most important in your lives. Staff in town are
working hard to continue to serve you and this includes summer programs.
In addition, the town is evolving to:
Provide interactive/virtual and live streaming of town meetings to
continue transparency;
Offer online bill payments, permits, applications and land records
research, and;
Encourage donations to those in need through Social & Youth
Services on the town website.
With the arrival of warmer weather, please enjoy our open space, parks and
trails that continue to be open and remember to engage in social distancing
for the safety of your neighbors.

Facilities WILLIAM J. PITKIN COMMUNITY CENTER 30 Greenfield Street. Houses 9/11 Memorial Sports Center,
Senior Center, WCTV-14, The Learning Circle Preschool
and other programs. Rooms may be rented for wedding
receptions, anniversaries, birthdays, meetings, etc.
9/11 MEMORIAL SPORTS CENTER 30 Greenfield Street. Located in the Pitkin Community
Center. Facility includes gym, fitness room and meeting room
with wireless internet access. Developed in partnership with
the Keane Foundation, this area also displays steel recovered
from the ruins of the World Trade Center. The gym is
available for rental through the Pitkin Community Center.
SOLOMON WELLES HOUSE 220 Hartford Avenue. An historic house built in 1774
overlooking the Cove. May be rented by residents and local
businesses for meetings and parties up to 52 people seated
or 74 people standing.
ELEANOR BUCK WOLF NATURE CENTER 156 Prospect Street. An environmental education center in
Mill Woods Park operated with member support. Exhibits,
live animals, educational programs, field trips, parties, room
rentals, scout programs and volunteer opportunities. For
visiting hours and program offerings please see Eleanor Buck
Wolf Nature Center on page 8.
WETHERSFIELD COVE & BOAT LAUNCH Main Street. Marina includes docks and a NEW boat launch
with access to the CT River. Tender cleats and mooring
rentals are available, weather and conditions permitting,
Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Mooring and tender
cleat rentals are available in person at the Parks & Recreation
Office. Copy of current boat registration and declaration page
of insurance policy must be submitted along with completed
application.

trails through 110 acres of forest and wetlands. The Heritage
Way bicycle and pedestrian path runs through Wintergreen
Woods, connecting to other parks throughout town.
MILL WOODS PARK Prospect Street and Wolcott Hill Road. Features Loretta’s
Dream Picnic Pavilion, skate park, playground, bocce court,
tennis courts (lit daily 7:00-9:00P, 4/2-9/30), basketball court,
sports fields, walking paths, swimming area, dog park and the
Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center.

Proof of age and residency (e.g. driver’s license) required for
admission. Non-residents and guests must be accompanied by

POOL PASSES
Wethersfield Parks and Recreation will be offering two pool
passes available for purchase starting May 6, 2020.
Year Round Pool Pass will be valid at Mill Woods Swim
Pond, Willard Pool and Backman Pool (Wethersfield High
School) from June 17, 2020 – June 5, 2021.
Summer Pool Pass will be valid at Mill Woods Swim Pond
and Willard Pool from June 17, 2020 – August 14, 2020.
If you already have a FOB you can renew it online by visiting
wethersfieldct.gov/recreation and follow the renewal
prompts.
If you lost your FOB there will be a $5 replacement fee.
To purchase a pool pass, visit wethersfieldct.gov/recreation.
Each household member will be issued their own FOB that
will be scanned for admission every time a pool is visited.
FOBs will be mailed to the address on file in June.
Free wrist coils for the FOBs will be available in the Parks
and Recreation office and at Mill Woods and Willard pools.
Pool Pass: Provides residents unlimited admission to pools.
When purchasing a family pool pass, either online or via
paper registration form, be sure to list all family members.
Pass will be mailed to address on file. Passes are not sold at
the pools. Daily admission cannot be credited towards the
purchase of a pass. Pass is required for swim lessons.
A family pass is limited to two adults (age 22+) along with
the children living in the same household. Child(ren)’s
caregiver (age 18+) may be included. Additional adult(s)
living in the household must purchase an individual or family
pool pass.

Wethersfield Camp Fund
Administered through the Social and Youth Services
Department, the Wethersfield Camp Fund has been in
existence for 40 years and has provided annual camp
assistance to over 100 resident children and disabled adults.
Wethersfield residents may apply in person with Social and
Youth Services and must demonstrate a financial need.
Donations can be made directly to Social and Youth Services
or using the Parks & Rec registration form. Every dollar
donated goes directly to camp scholarships.
CHEERLEADING CAMP
Age 5-14. Directed by Emily Bielisz
and Alyssa Schroll and taught by
current cheerleaders and dancers. Children have fun while
working on fitness and cheer basics as well as tumbling,
learning cheers and chants, jumps, cheer dance, pom motions,
simple stunts and how to motivate a crowd. Min/Max: 10/40.

experiment with emotion collages, mosaic art and so much

HOST YOUR NEXT BIRTHDAY PARTY AT THE NATURE CENTER A birthday party at the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center is a
great way to encourage interest in nature while enjoying the
convenience of a party away from your home. Staff will assist
with set-up and clean-up, greet guests, and lead
hands-on activities with the animals. Parties
are 2 hours and flexible scheduling offered.
Fee is $160 for Friends of the Nature Center
and $185 for non-members. For more

OUTREACH PROGRAMS Nature Center staff can come to you. Programs give students
or adults the opportunity to visit the animals that live at the
Nature Center as well as experience nature through activities
provided by our staff. A variety of programs
(including live animals) can be presented at
your school or organization.
BOOK YOUR SCOUT GROUP Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops may schedule programs after
school or on weekends that are seasonally and age
appropriate (insects, flowers, forestry, etc). Programs are
subject to availability and run 1-1.5 hours in length. For more

SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS Consider the Nature Center for your
next field trip. Programs can be
designed to align with the current state
science standards. From living vs non-

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING Age 13-15. Under the leadership of our CIT Director,
participants will spend time developing leadership,
communication and teamwork skills while gaining experience
helping campers during lessons. Participants will learn in
both a "classroom" and experiential setting with opportunities
to develop and lead new activities. The CIT program includes
training in all aspects of a camp counselor’s job, participation
in training sessions on topics such as basic child

best practices and environmental stewardship.

NATURE CAMP
Jump into the Amazing World of Animals and Nature. Take a
closer look at how nature helps us every day and how we can
help nature.
Nature Camp is designed for 4 year old/Pre K - Grade 6 in
spring. Mornings consist of lessons and activities that reflect
weekly themes. Swimming, recreational games and outdoor
exploration take place in the afternoon. Swim lesson levels
preschool-6 offered to all-day campers on a first-come, first-
served basis during selected two week sessions (must be
registered for both weeks of camp in order to be eligible).
Early and Late options provide time for summer campers to
enjoy animal visits, crafts, reading, games etc. with staff
supervision.
Each class led by an educator and assistant counselor
(1:10 ratio) supported by volunteers, lifeguards and staff
certified in first aid.
An OPEN HOUSE for new campers and parents will be
hosted at the Nature Center on Thursday, June 4, 2020, from

Summer Nature Camp Monday, June 22 through
Friday, August 14 6/22: Forest Explorers. Wander our woodlands and discover

Swim lessons are available to residents only. Lessons use the
American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.
Lessons will be cancelled for thunder or lightning.
Swim Lesson Pre-requisites:
Pool pass is required. For online registration you must
purchase a pool pass before selecting a swim lesson.

PARENT AND CHILD AQUATICS Age 18 months-3. Children will have fun in the water while

yards) and back (50 yards) crawls, butterfly (50 yards),
elementary backstroke (100 yards), breaststroke (50 yards)
and sidestroke (50 yards), demonstrate front and back flip
turns and open turns for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke,

minutes, surface dive and retrieve an object in water 7 feet

Registration Policies
TO REGISTER Registration for residents and Friends of the Nature Center members
begins Wednesday, 5/6, 8:00A and for non-residents Thursday, 5/7,
8:00A. Exceptions are indicated in individual program descriptions.
Sometimes a class must be cancelled due to lack of enrollment.
Please register early to avoid disappointment.
Online: wethersfieldct.gov/recreation. You must be a registered
household with a user name and password. Be sure to verify that all
household information (address, email, phone, age, etc.) is current.
By mail or in person: Use the registration form on the back. Copies are
accepted. Submit forms by mail or drop off at Parks & Recreation or
Pitkin Community Center. Forms received by mail or in person in the
office will be processed randomly. Forms will be accepted one week
prior to start of registration.
Fax or phone registrations are not accepted.
HOW TO BECOME A REGISTERED HOUSEHOLD Register online at wethersfieldct.gov/recreation. Once your household is
entered in the database, you will receive a user name by the next
business day to begin registering online. Be sure to check your spam
folder.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR RESIDENTS Contact Parks & Recreation for further information.
PAYMENT
Online registration may be made by MasterCard, VISA or Discover
credit or debit card. Registration forms submitted by mail or in person
must include payment. Accepted methods of payment are cash, check or
money order, MasterCard, VISA or Discover credit or debit card.
REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel programs and issue
refunds due to insufficient registrants or causes beyond its control.
Refunds will be automatic if a session is cancelled.
Refund requests must be received in writing prior to the start of a
program via email during office hours at
[email protected]. A $10 per class processing fee will
be deducted.
Refunds will not be given after a program has begun.
WAIVER If you have a physical limitation, it is your responsibility to obtain a
statement from your doctor approving your participation in a program.
Parks & Recreation complies with the Americans Disabilities Act by
making reasonable accommodations in its programs to enable
participation by people with disabilities who meet essential eligibility
requirements for the specific programs and facilities.
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS Summer office hours are scheduled to begin the week of June 15. Hours
will be Monday-Wednesday 8:00A-4:30P, Thursday 8:00A-6:00P, and
Friday 8:00A-1:00P. Regular hours will resume on August 21. Closed
Friday, 7/3. COVID-19 may necessitate changes to these operational
hours. Please refer to town website for the most up-to-date information.
