WALKING THE LINE OF RISK IN NASHVILLE

On behalf of the PRIMA board of directors and the 2012 conference planning committee, please accept this special invitation to join us in Nashville, Tennessee, for PRIMA’s 2012 Annual Conference.

Risk managers “walk the line of risk” every day in public entities around the world. They are forced to do more with less and become innovators in order to navigate the treacherous terrain of public risk management. The 2012 conference will bring together thought leaders in the public risk management field who will share their experiences and solutions to some of risk management’s toughest problems.

At the 2012 Annual Conference, there will be more than 55 educational sessions in eight tracks, including benefits and human resources, pooling, enterprise risk management and workers’ compensation. These topics will cover the latest trends and changes that will affect all risk managers sooner or later. In, addition, this conference will feature late-breaking hot topics that will be added in the Spring to capture the latest dynamics occurring within our profession that will affect public entities. Find out how your peers are addressing these challenges today.

A trip to PRIMA’s Annual Conference would not be complete without attending one of PRIMA’s popular networking events! After a long day of learning and sharing, attendees can relax and unwind at PRIMA’s Sunday Welcome Reception and the Tuesday night social event. These events give attendees a unique opportunity to meet old risk management friends and make new ones. One of the greatest benefits of PRIMA’s conference is the chance to network and share with your fellow practitioners!

As always, PRIMA’s conference will feature an extensive trade show with exhibitors who recognize the power and influence of public sector risk managers. They are ready to talk to you and learn what you need to make your jobs easier, more streamlined and more cost-effective. See what they have to offer YOUR entity.

You’ll also enjoy all that “Music City” has to offer. Nashville has something for everyone, including the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame, Music City Queen riverboat tour and President Jackson’s home, The Hermitage.

There is no better way to start your summer than attending PRIMA’s 2012 Annual Conference in Nashville! We are certain you will find the conference location to be a great venue for learning, networking and kicking up your heels!

We look forward to seeing you June 3–6, 2012, in Nashville, Tennessee!

Welcome Letter

Government is under incredible pressure right now. The economic crisis has hit us with a double whammy: exponential increases in demand and dramatically reduced resources. Government simply doesn’t have the capacity to do all the good we want to do in this world. How have we responded to these new pressures? By trotting out the old ideas. More blue ribbon panels, travel moratoriums and calls for accountability. We cut back on paper clips and cut out the training. We outsource, upgrade and downsize. Meanwhile, droves of new customers are stuck on our porch waiting to knock on our door and ask for help. The

house of government doesn’t need another layer of paint or some new carpet; it needs an extreme makeover. And just like on the show, it needs it done fast! Our house is full of “moldy ideas” that are making everyone sick and our pipes are bursting from the ever-increasing demands. We can stand around arguing whether the house is too big or costs too much or we can grab some tools and fix it up. Join Bill Bott, former deputy chief information officer for the state of Missouri for this presentation, which makes obvious the real problems plaguing government, how you can join the crew and gives you the tools to complete the makeover.

The Music City Improv is Nashville’s premier improv and sketch comedy group. The cast will combine games and audience participation to create a one-of-a-kind show that will have conference attendees laughing, relaxing, and letting loose in no time! The scenes will be

presented in 3 – 5 minute increments and they will be fast-paced and comedy-driven. The audience participation will make for an action-packed show that will keep you on the edge of your seat! The best part about this show? You never know what is going to happen next!

Anthony Huey has years of experience in editorial management, media relations, marketing communication and business strategy, including serving as senior editor of Ohio Magazine. His presentation will provide risk managers with invaluable information on how to deal with the media during a crisis. The media plays an important role during any crisis. Huey will teach attendees what the media

needs, and how the media can help YOU get information to the public quickly and efficiently. Attendees will learn how to effectively communicate with the media and other audiences during a crisis, prepare an effective crisis communications plan, give a good news interview, address and answer difficult questions and continuously evaluate their interviewing skills through hands-on practice.
