It echoes down the centuries and is just as relevant today as it ever was. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Our answer to that question is perhaps the most revealing statement of our faith. Our answer no doubt changes over time as we grow in understanding and as we experience the ups and downs of life, but nonetheless, just like Peter in the gospel passage, our answer remains a clear statement of our faith. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Just a good guy who lived 2,000 years ago? A role model? A friend? God made flesh? The Word come down from heaven? Nobody? Everybody? Our saviour? An inspired man of God? The Messiah? Take a few minutes and respond to these words of Jesus! Perhaps you’ve never tried to actually answer the question yourself. It is a confronting question, ‘Who do you say I am?’ It’s confronting because, as Christian people, we believe that our actions are a reflection of our beliefs and values. It’s confronting because whatever we say in answer to that question has implications for the way we live. ‘Who do you say I am?’ You see, the question is in the present tense, not the past. It doesn’t ask ‘Who do you say I was?’; it asks, ‘Who do you say I AM?’ The very question asks us to recognise that Jesus was not just some guy who lived 2,000 years ago but rather someone who continues to be a presence in our lives today. And he stands before each and every one of us today and asks that same, demanding, confronting, purposeful question: ‘Who do YOU say I am?’ Over the next few weeks, the Sunday gospel will call us into the ways of respect, of commitment, and of peaceful negotiation, to ever deeper insight into the ways of being part of God’s Kingdom: we will be reminded to reflect that you and I are the messengers, today. But today those beautiful words of Peter never seem to get much of a focus, so when Peter says; LORD YOU KNOW EVERYTHING; YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU. .... My friends may Peter’s words to the Risen Christ be ours too. Lord, you know I love you! May our lives this week reflect these words! Have a great week! A BLESSING FOR OUR PARISH THIS WEEK

has been the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation – 82 children receiving this Sacrament and their families being in the Church has been a wonderful

experience. Also, this Sunday at the 8.30am Mass, 18 young adults will be fully initiated into our faith community through the

Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist.

The stirrings of faith within our community are aplenty! Thanks to everyone who made these celebrations so

wonderful. -------------------------------------------------------------------

PLENARY COUNCIL 2021 starts on 3 October Plenary Council Prayer Campaign - People across the country are invited to participate in the “Fan the Flame” prayer campaign leading up to the first assembly of the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia. DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO MIGHT LIKE TO BECOME A CATHOLIC? WE WILL BE

HOLDING ENQUIRY NIGHTS SOON. PLEASE SEE ONE OF

THE PRIESTS FOR MORE INFORMATION.

EMAIL WARNING This week several parishioners were contacted by a scammer pretending to be Fr Stephen, asking them to assist a friend by buying gift cards. The email began with “I need a favour” PLEASE KNOW THAT FR STEPHEN WILL NEVER ASK FOR, OR REQUEST, MONEY IN THIS WAY. Please do not open the email, delete it immediately, and most importantly do not respond in any way. (Several parishes in the Archdiocese have been scammed by this group in the past months)

-------------------------------------------------------------------- “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny him-

self, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)

Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for my own life, but for the lives of others as

well. We realize that our gifts are not intended for ourselves, rather they are meant to be shared with

others. “Taking up my cross” means doing things when someone else needs me and not when it’s convenient

for me. -------------------------------------------------------------------

but you are encouraged to read it online. Check it out!! -------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------- A WORD FROM POPE FRANCIS

Baptism, is not merely an “external rite.” Rather, those who receive it “are transformed deep within” and “possess new life” which allows them to turn to God and call Him with the name of “Abba, Father.” The Holy Father, in this regard, encouraged Christians to find out their date of baptism and to celebrate it. The Holy Father then highlighted that we are called in a more positive way to live a new life that roots its foundational expression in being children of God, discovering the beauty of being “brothers and sisters among ourselves, because we have been united in Christ.” General Audience 8 Sept 2021
