What did the regulations require? Capture, track and be able to report the language
preferences of membership Ensure 24/7 access to language assistance resources
including interpreters with demonstrated proficiency – and document it
Translate vital documents into top two languages preferred by membership
Train Health Plan employees who have regular contact with members on language assistance
Ensure that our contracted providers are compliant Monitor and regularly report compliance
What did and didn’t come “out of the box”
Out of the box: – Multiple language fields (primary spoken language, primary written language,
primary language, etc.)
Not in the box: – Interpreter Need (yes/no) – Documentation of interpreter offer, use or refusal – Presence of Language and Interpreter Needs Fields to support workflow – Documentation triggered by Interpreter Need Field
