FEBRUARY
Greetings,
Our New Beginnings Revival this past month was a phenomenal start to 2015! It has set the stage for the year ahead and has raised our level of expectation as a congregation.
February is Black History Month and provides us with an occasion to reflect upon the contributions of our predecessors. We are grateful for the rich legacy of the AME Church and the people of faith that struggled and sacrificed to pave the way for us today. We honor and celebrate them.
We are excited to announce, this February for the first time the Men of Reid Temple will host our very own Men’s Weekend! We want every Man of our church to plan to attend.
Our theme, Under Construction is an acknowledgement that God is working on each of us. We are also aware we all have work to do as fathers and sons, leaders and visionaries; in our families, our communities our nation and for the Kingdom.
We expect God will speak to and stand up in the Men of Reid in a powerful way through this experience!
We are a blessed church and we remain committed to our assignment as a congregation .

Remember it’s not equal giving, it’s equal sacrifice.
We want to thank everyone who made
a commitment to our By Faith Campaign.
Total Commitments now
stand at $8.7 million. In our first two months we
have received $1.0 million towards commitments.
Since Commitment Sunday an additional
$2.0million of commitments have been received. This is a very strong start to our two-year By Faith Campaign.
The Senior Housing Planning Team is currently in the process of selecting a contractor to perform the land use assessment of the land parcels we acquired as well as the hiring of a project manager.
At our North Campus, we are evaluating several possible sites to determine suitability for our proposed campus. We have had a number of meetings with developers and their representatives to identify where their projects and timelines are compatible to ours.
We want to thank everyone who has so far made a decision to join us on this Spiritual Journey. However, we want to invite everyone to join in to make our One Vision Two Dreams reality. So if you have not yet made a commitment we invite you to first PRAY, then COMMIT by completing a By Faith Commitment card and drop in the offering basket. You can also complete the commitment form on our website.

Richard AllenMethodist preacher, outspoken advocate of racial equality and a founder of the A.M.E. Church. Allen attended St. George’s Methodist Church where Blacks and Whites were allowed to worship together until Blacks were instructed to move into the balcony during a Sunday service at St. George’s. They refused, walked out and would shortly thereafter they founded the Free African Society, which would later become the A.M.E. Church
Sara AllenWife of Richard Allen, and regarded as “a pillar of the building” whose support enabled Allen and his fellow ministers to carry on their work. She founded the Daughters of the Conference, a group of A.M.E. Women that assisted with the work of minis-try. She also played a vital role in the struggle for freedom by assisting runaway slaves, hiding, feeding and clothing them.
Daniel PaynePro-slavery arguments hinged on the idea that African-Amer-icans lacked the capacity to be fully equal American citizens. Payne worked his entire life to disprove that theory. He is regarded by some as the most influential African-American Christian in the 19th century.
Payne worked as a teacher, a minister, and founded Wilber-force University, the first black owned and operated institution of higher learning in the country. No single individual with the exception of Richard Allen did more to shape the tone and trajectory of African Methodism.
Henry McNeal TurnerTurner was a part of a lobbying effort to convince President Abraham Lincoln to enlist freedmen in the Union Army. Lincoln consented, and Turner became the first black chaplain.
After the war, Turner walked back to Georgia, and began organizing A.M.E. churches there. By some counts, he founded over one hundred churches. In 1868, he was elected state rep-resentative. Turner came close to becoming a National leader in the mold of Frederick Douglass or Booker T. Washington.
