June 2013
REINERWhat an exciting month we had in May! We started out with Affiliate
#2, “Rein for the Roses” and con-cluded the month with Affiliate #3 and #4.
At “Rein for the Roses”, Bill Madden and staff made sure every-one was settled in nicely and pro-vided us with continuous evening entertainment and parties. With the regular slate of classes, maturi-ties and derbies to follow, we knew we were in for an exciting week. We were fortunate to have Chris Cook from Inside Reining there to record our show. This will air on July 16th and 23rd, so check it out (details on page 21)! Inside Reining was generously sponsored by Equithrive, Cowtrac, Brookside Equestrian Park and Hanson Performance Horses. The running of the Kentucky Derby created additional excitement as the show

What a fabulous week for a horse show! The Rein for the Roses and WCRHA Affiliate #2 show was another Northern California success!
Our week began with move in and warm-ups on Wednesday. Thursday started the competi-tion with Matt McDowell, riding Wimpys Lil Melody for Bret Christensen, winning the Open and Intermediate Open classes with a 74! Besting the Limited Open was Nev Devine on Peptos Silver Holly for owner Danny Pesusic. Rookie Professional first place went to Joanna Brewer on Nu Chex Bueno Badger owned by Karen Di
Napoli and Prime Time Open was again Nev Devine on Peptos Silver Holly. The Brookside Masters Open Jackpot class went to Ted Jacobson riding his SDR Kid Rooster. The ever popular Snaffle/Hackamore class went to Ricky Nicolazzi on Nikky And The Bud, owned by Allyson Hicks.
Our Non-Pro riders saddled up next for the Novice Horse NP Level 1 with a tie for first between Brooke Boyle on Buenos Home Run and Janet Freeland

was stopped so everyone could enjoy a mint julep while watching this international event. This had us all in the mood for our Reining Derby which followed the Kentucky Derby. As always, the night concluded with a fabulous BBQ and parade of hats!
Rounding out the month of May was our Affiliate #3 and #4 which hosted our WCRHA “Shootout”. What an excit-ing event! There were 27 competitors vying for the big money and any Non-Pro could compete on any horse for this event. The “Shootout” paid through 10th place and winners walked away with money in hand, jackets, halters, buckles, saddle covers…… Due to our large increase in membership and entries, we decided to add a second show arena. With MEC’s help we maintained numerous warm-up arenas, which made this experience fun and pleasurable for everyone. This also gave our members a lot of opportu-nities to enter extra classes and allowed the show to conclude at a reasonable hour so members could enjoy the evening festivities which included a draw party sponsored by Premier Equine, and a barn social. With over 260 filled stalls and the kind sponsorship from MEC for our “Shootout”, this was a week to remember. We will “shoot” to have an even bigger one next year.
We will see you all in July at our Affiliates #5 and #6, which will host the annual Munchman Dog Races, the Open, and the Non Pro 7 and Up Maturity. So get those older horses out and start legging them up!

Rookie Day 2013 was held on Saturday, April 20. It was a picture perfect day with the temperature in the low 80’s and a slight breeze. Once again WCRHA’s Rookie Day was held at Dick Randall’s beautiful Lost Trail Ranch (Thank you Dick!). We had our largest group ever with 38 riders, 9 trainers, and 6 volunteers to make this a very memorable event.
The winners of Rookie Day were as follows: In the adult division we had co-champions of Raney Fichtner and Kristen Lowenthal with the reserve buckle going to
Emily Helderman. In the Youth division the champion was Kirsten Rodocker and there were co-reserve cham-pions of Grace Bentien and Madeline Benhamou.
In the end we collected $6,900 in entrance fees which was donated directly to the Reining Horse Sports Foundation Crisis Fund.
Thank you goes out to all the exhibiters, trainers and volunteers which made this a great day. We look forward to seeing you at WCRHA’s Rookie Day 2014.

Kim Yancey Named NRHA Professional Non Pro Coach of the Year NRHA recently named WCRHA’s own Kim Yancey as their 2012 NRHA Professional Non Pro Coach of the Year.
Kim has been involved with showing horses all of her life. She started showing as a youth in AQHA, NCHA, NRCHA and APHA shows. In AQHA alone, she showed in 11 different events.
She started her horse training career by training horses for her parents Ruby and Leon King at their Loomis, California, ranch. She soon decid-ed to go professional. She
continued to train out of her parent’s ranch until Kim’s husband Pat built her a training facility in Granite Bay, California.
She was at her Granite Bay Ranch for many years until Mike and Barbi Boyle offered her a job. Kim and Pat then moved to Ione, California. She had many wonderful years while at the Boyle Barn.
Kim tells me that she really received a lot of joy from her clients, both youth and Non Pro, when they would get exited seeing their horse learn, improve, and do well in the show pen. She also enjoyed seeing them enjoying showing their own horses, but more importantly, helping them learn to be a better rider and competitor.
She further tells me that she especially enjoyed watching a horse throughout the years. For instance, to be a good open horse for her to show and then to be a good horse for the owner to show, then to go another step and be a good horse for the grandchild to show.
Finally she says “I have had a lot of fun riding wonder-ful horses, but most of all, I have acquired a lot of great friends. Their smiles when their horses performed well or they learned something new was awesome. We have had many great accomplishments, but trust and friendship is the highest award.”
Congratulations Kim on being named NRHA’s Professional Non Pro Coach for 2012!

To ALL of our Sponsors and Volunteers!
We can't do it without YOU!
THANK YOU VOLUNTEERSVolunteers are the heart and backbone of the club. Without volunteers, there would not be a WCRHA. From the board members to the parents
of the kids that ride. It takes all of us to make our WCRHA shows successful, well run, and fun for everyone. Our shows this year have been
all of those things, but it only happens with the help of volunteers! If it wasn’t said at the shows, we appreciate the support and
