leadership activities and special rec-ognition from teachers and employers. The Career Map consists of com-prehensive assessments outlining each student’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis and a skill development plan. These, along with GEMConnect a cus-tom application (which was introduced in Fall 2017), allow students to take

career assessments, build a digital career portfolio, communicate with their advisors, and be linked to a men-tor. All of these strategies will help to ensure that our students reach their career goal. This initiative constitutes a sig-nificant change in the functioning of Career Services. A Career Connection Team is being introduced, consisting

of a Center Coordinator, two Career Development Specialists, and one Office Assistant who are motivated to ensure a successful outcome. Each team member is tasked with ensu-ing that each student is assigned to their own career specialist and with enhancing all career related- activities. Our students’ success is our success!

Established in 2001, Oakwood Memorial Gardens is located on 15 acres at the southern boundary of Oakwood’s prop-

erty, near the Historic Slave Cemetery and Pioneer Lake. Oakwood Memorial Gardens has become an integral part of the Huntsville community and is filling a need for families experiencing the loss of a loved one. How comforting it is to know that their loved one is rest-ing in a place that is naturally lovely, and can be considered, in many ways, “sacred ground.” It is a peaceful place where family members can pause and remember their loved ones. Gerald Kibble, Cemetery Director, and personnel will be available at the burial service to ensure that your

plans are executed. We will assist with making your guests comfortable during the graveside service. Each Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, American flags are placed on the graves of veterans buried in the cemetery in honor of their service to our country. Pre-need Installment Plans are available for those who wish to avoid

inevitable future price increases. An initial 25% deposit is required, and the balance can be paid over a 12-month, 18-month, or 24-month period, interest free. Headstones/monuments can be obtained through Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The cemetery also provides a special section to accommodate upright headstones and memorials. Above-ground entombment is an alternative to traditional in-ground burial, and saves the expense of pur-chasing a grave liner or vault. Oakwood Memorial Gardens offers family mau-soleums that can accommodate two to six family members, and columbarium niches to contain cremated remains. These must be purchased on a pre-need contract.

Spring is here, and everything at Oakwood Farms awaken-ing from its winter slumber. Can you believe a whole year

has rolled by since Oakwood Farms first harvested crops of delicious fruits and vegetables? Regardless of season-al changes, God’s hands of blessing remains on Oakwood Farms. During this past December, tem-peratures dipped to first 13°, then to 5°, and then down to 0° several times a week. The vegetables drooped in a frozen state, burned brown by the frost. By all standards, all the vegeta-ble plants should not have survived. But this was not the case -- God’s hand was upon them, and the vegetables are alive and well! Looking at the rows of greens arranged in the middle of the garden, not one of the plants speak

of hardship. The vibrant color of the green leaves speak clearly, beckoning us to come and taste of blessing of God. If you drove through the main gate about one month ago, and looked to the right, it would have appeared as though nothing was happening. However, a lot is going on: the pecan trees are scheduled to grow 40 feet tall. The 1800 blueberry plants pro-duced hundreds of gallons of plump, delicious blueberries in their first year. The blackberry plants which lay dormant not too long ago now show green lush shoots off the ground. There are also 150 raspberry plants also bursting forth with green shoots. These same plants produced plump, sweet blackberries and raspberries last season, and are preparing to do

the same this year. Our Farmers’ Market customers speak volumes, of how delicious the homegrown tomatoes were and how they loved the succulent blueberries. They are especially pleased about being able to take freshly harvested Oakwood Farms produce straight from our garden to their kitchen. At Oakwood Farms, we are just as excited as the customers are about the jade green snap beans, tender pole beans, collard greens, kale, red tomatoes, yellow squash and tender okra that grace our bushel baskets. The plants continue to speak of the coming bountiful harvest. “The ground is blessed,” they say. We agree. I would venture to say God agrees too. We at Oakwood Farms invite you this season. Come, taste and see… you’ll agree.
