Lesedi is meer as R334 000 aan diensgelde

aan hul werknemer verskuldig.

As alle agterstallige geld van alle inwoners

bereken word, groei dit met meer as ‘n miljoen

rand per maand, is op die jongste Raadverga-

dering van Lesedi gesë. Rdsl. Roelf Loubscher

D.A. het sy kommer uitgespreek dat daar

volgens ‘n verslag voor die raad, heelwat

munisipale diensnemers is wat met hul

diensgeld agterstallig is. Die kredietbeleid

moet nou behoorlik geïmplementeer word, het

hy gesê. Speaker T.S. Moremi het in reaksie

gesê: “Dis onaanvaarbaar dat daar werk-

faktore kyk wat in die interne verrassings

is, lyk dit asof finansiële beheer in Lesedi besig

is om uitmekaar te val. Die raad moet

indringend kyk hoe beheermaat-reëls verskerp

kan word. Daar is minstens sewe risiko

gevalle wat deur die D.A. uitgewys is. Hoewel

die komitee die maatreëls as aanvaarbaar

beskryf het, moet dit in talle gevalle verbeter

word. Die verrassingsbesoek om die beheer

van kontant te kontroleer, word van tyd tot

tyd gedoen. Speaker Moremi het gesê hy wil

hê die ouditering moet nou minstens

kwartaalliks gedoen word.

Risiko’s wat in die verrassings ouditering na

vore gekom het, hou verband met die beheer

van kluissleutels. Dit kan o.a. lei tot die

misbruik van gelde deur kassiere. Die verga-

dering het ook kennis geneem dat ‘n nuwe

dorpsuitbreiding in Boschfontein net buite

Heidelberg op die pad na Vereeniging,

goedgekeur is. Me. Mirna Muller, DA, het

gekla omdat so baie werkers in die

diensafdelings nie in hulle kantoor is om die

publiek te bedien nie. Dan kry ‘n mens hulle

by eetplekke sit en ontspan.

Moremi het gesê dit is o.a. swak bestuur wat

aanleiding daartoe gee, terwyl ‘n klomp

werknemers onnodig op kursusse was.

Die Raad het ook die aanstelling van ‘n

komitee goedgekeur wat in terme van nuwe

reëls geografiese naamsveranderings sal

goedkeur.

Veranderinge sal mettertyd aangebring word.

Sasol Mining has invested R25, 5 million in

Social and Labour Plan (SLP), Local Eco-

nomic Development projects consisting of

infrastructure development initiatives target-

ing the Dipaleseng Municipality.

These projects are due to commence between

2013 and 2017. The Social and Labour Plan

firmly aligns with Sasol Mining’s transforma-

tion drive to establish stable, viable and sus-

tainable communities that are capable of ac-

cessing economic opportunities through im-

proved living conditions. “Sasol has embarked

on infrastructure development projects as part

of our plans to advance the social and eco-

nomic welfare of the communities in which we

operate by providing access to entrepreneurial

opportunities and investing in initiatives and

projects by the community”, said Nzama

Baloyi, Sasol Mining General Manager.

Sasol Mining is targeting the Greylingstad and

Nthoroane communities which will ultimately

benefit the broader Dipaleseng Municipal area.

double its sewage

processing capacity. Phase two will be the

reconnection of the Greylingstad sewage in-

frastructure to the Nthoroane waste water

treatment plant thus eliminating the current

septic tank emptying service. “Sasol is com-

mitted to accelerating local economic devel-

opment and contributing to the growth of the

province. We will continue to work together

with stakeholders to create thriving commu-

nities,” concludes Baloyi.

There was an old man who went to stay in ahome for the aged. When he got there thenurse collected him in a wheelchair and asthey were walking down the passage the manstarted sharing with the nurse. “The rooms are so nice, neat and cosy”. Awhile later he said “The food is absolutelyfantastic”. At this the nurse said to him “Sorrysir but how can you make these statementsbefore you have even seen your room ortasted the food?” The man replied “In lifeyou have many choices. You can choose thatlife is bad and full of problems or you canchoose that everything is fine. In my life Ialways choose the positive and believe thateverything will be fine”. The nurse did notknow what to say but I believe that she hadjust learned a big lesson in life, and maybeyou have learned the same lesson.As I have looked in admiration at theParalympics I have come to realize that whilewe often feel that life is not fair it is how welook at life that makes the difference. I wouldlike to share a few observations that I havepicked up on and maybe they will help us tolive our life with more of a positive outlook.Last night I watched the discus and javelinevents for the folk in wheelchairs. I wasamazed to see how they patiently waited forthe helpers to fasten their special chair to theplatform – in exactly the position that theyasked. The one time after the helpers had donethis the participant asked them to move itslightly and they calmly undid the straps andre-aligned the seat in the position asked for. Ithen realized that the first thing we need todo is to acknowledge who we are and whatour situation is in our life. All too often westruggle to accept our situation and this cre-ates a bitterness that we struggle to handle. Iwould like to suggest that we all take some

time to acknowledge our life situation andthink carefully of where we are in life. At thesame time think of all the other folk who areless fortunate than we are. We can then makea decision to be positive with what we haveand to live a life of joy with what we areblessed with. Remember that even in ourtimes of struggle our loving God is with usand He can always bring good out of oursituation.The second point that I was thinking of wasthe life of Jesus. He did not have an easy lifewith not having a fixed place of abode andbeing treated unfairly in so many differentsituations. And finally He accepted the deathpenalty on our behalf – and while He criedout to God He did not moan and react nega-tively like so many of us do. The lesson fromthis is first off a confirmation that God is al-ways there for us but secondly that evenwhen we are struggling God can use us tohelp others – what a blessing!So what is your choice in life going to be? Tobe positive and allow Christ’s light to shinethrough you or to be negative and live a lifeof gloom? The choice is yours.

Ernstige beswaar teen die voorgestelde inlywing van Heidelberg by

Ekurhuleni , is deur die DA in ‘n petisie vervat wat op Maandag 3

September aan die Munisipale Afbakenings Raad (MAR) in Preto-

ria oorhandig is.

Die voorgenome afbakening word deur die ANC voorgestaan.

Rekord verneem dat Heidelberg nes Nigel in gevaar staan om die

weeskind van Ekurhuleni te word. “Ons sal nie ons eie burgermeester

of speaker hê nie, ons sal geen eie outonomie hê nie, en sal i.p.v. die

huidige 26 raadslede net twee of drie lede op Ekurhuleni se Raad hê.

Dit sal die afsterwe van dienslewering in Lesedi aankondig,” het rdsl.

“Ons voel dat Lesedi geweldig benadeel sal word, nes Nigel wat ook

aan die agterspeen moet suip. Met ons petisie betoog ons dat Lesedi

deel van Sedibeng bly,” het Coetzee gesê. In die petisie wat aan Me.

Gumbi-Masilela van MAR oorhandig is, word ‘n parallel met Nigel se

probleme getrek. “Lesedi is ‘n lewensvatbare munisipaliteit wat op sy

eie kan bestaan en dit bring die plaaslike regering op die naaste vlak

moontlik aan die mense. Die Wet op Plaaslike Regering Strukture

behoort gewysig te word om toe te laat dat nie-metro munisipaliteite

wat lewensvatbaar is, op hulle eie as sekondêre stede kan bestaan

sonder ‘n distriksmunisipaliteit.”

A petition has been handed to the Speaker at

the recent Ekurhuleni Council meeting in

Germison, by Nigel councilor, Wally

Labuschagne, requesting that the Alra Park

public swimming pool be repaired, upgraded

and filled with water.

More than 200 homeowners and families in

Alra Park and Mackenzieville signed the pe-

tition. Despite numerous promises by politi-

cians, this swimming pool has been standing

empty for years and being ruined to the det-

riment of all concerned.

CLr Labuschagne says that during Novem-

ber 2011 the Mayor promised that the proc-

ess to repair and fill the six empty swimming

pools in Ekurhuleni had started and that they

would be filled with water before the next

summer. Labuschagne said he appealed to

the Speaker to come to the rescue of these

communities as they need this facility badly,

not only for relaxation but also as a place

where our young children can learn to swim

and to prevent drowning when four young-

sters drowned in one of our dams.

“Let us hope that the success of our olympic

swimmers and rowers will inspire the powers

that be at Ekurhuleni.” Says Labuschagne.

Some of the latest scams is done by sending

an SMS to a person’s cell phone, informing

that they have won a huge amount of money in

a promotion organised by the cell phone brand.

A number is given to call back and claim the

prize. But when the call is made the person is

required to give bank details and usually an

ID number. One person who contacted the

cell phone company said there was no pro-

motion existing and certainly no prize money.

Together with Nigel Rotary Club, Nigel High School has embarkedon a project to rejuvenate the Interact Club at the school.With the endeavour to uphold the Rotary motto of “Service AboveSelf”, the learners, principal, Mrs Dolinshek and Educator DelenePretorius are dedicated to assist in projects with people who are lessfortunate. The induction took place in the school hall and Neo Seboniwas voted as president Mapelo Mahlangu as deputy president, PetrusMotau as secretary and Kevin Malinga as treasurer.Adele and Robbie Arnoldi and Mino Carniel attended the inductionand Nigel Rotary sponsored badges for all the members of the Inter-act Club as well as a special badge for the president.Adele Arnoldi presented the badges. Deboni will be writing prelimi-nary examinations soon, so Mapelo Mahlangu attended the Ryla campin Benoni in his place. The programme involved directed group dis-cussions, debates, practical exercises and lead-in lectures by highlyregarded personalities on subjects such as team building, conflictresolution, you and the environment and many more.Ryla is a programme which provides young people of Grade 11 and 12the opportunity to develop their leadership capabilities.It is an intensive camp to discuss leadership skills and to learn thoseskills through practice. The rejuvenation of Interact has been wel-comed by Nigel Rotary. These young learners will undoubtedly gaina lot from being members of it and be deeply involved with commu-nity issues. Interact is a Rotary International Service Club for youngpeople aged 12 to 18 years. Interact clubs are sponsored by indi-vidual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but theyare self-governing and self-supporting. Club membership variesgreatly and clubs can be single gender or mixed, one of which fur-thers international understanding and goodwill through these efforts, large or small. They can draw from two more schools in the samecommunity. Each year Interact clubs complete at least two commu-nity service projects. Interactors develop a network of friendships inlocal and overseas clubs and learn the importance of: Developingleadership skills and personal integrity. Demonstrating helpfulnessand respect for others. Understanding the value of individuality andhard work. Advancing international understanding and goodwill.As one of the most significant and fastest growing programmes ofRotary service. With more than 10 700 clubs in 709 countries andgeographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon.Almost 200 000 young people ate involved in Interact.

wees. Die voertaal is Afrikaans en die teikengroep is persone tussen

20 en 40 jaar oud. Die terrein en program is egter geskik dat paartjies

met kinders dit ook kan bywoon, asook mense wat net vir die dag wil

deurkom. Die kampgeld sluit alle maaltye en verblyf in. Registrasie is

There was no lack of support for the fete held at the Nigel Home for the Aged.

With plenty to eat and drink and lots of delicious food on sale, people flocked to the

Home as soon as the event began.

There was a variety of stalls selling puddings, cakes, ornaments, toys, clothing and

some very unusual clocks. In the hall people could sit at tables and enjoy the food on

sale and then look at all the bargains on offer.

This provided a great atmosphere and as usual this annual event was again a huge

success. All the hard work which went into organising it was well worth it!

The 22 km was

over two loops

and the 44km

and 66km was

over the same

route but the

66km race had

to engage a

tough loop

twice. It was a

great race but

the wind

proved a bit of

a problem.
