OpenGL Viewport Scaling Problem in Horizontal Span Mode WithnViewHorizontalSpanmodeenabled,whenopeninganOpenGLmodelinaviewport,themodelimageisscaledtoolargetofitintheviewport.TheproblemoccurswithsuchapplicationsasMaya5.0and3DStudioMAX4.26.ThisisnotanNVIDIAbug,butalimitationintheapplicationsabilitytoproperlymaintaintheaspectratioinHorizontalSpanmode.

Video Playback in nView Clone and Span Modes Problem

WithnViewCloneorSpanmodeenabled,videoplaybackappearsononlyonedisplayunderthefollowingconditions:

UndernViewClonemode,whenfullscreenvideomirrorisnotused. UndernViewSpanmode,whenfullscreenvideomirrorisnotusedandthe

videoispositionedtospanacrossbothmonitors.

Explanation

WithapplicationsthatrenderusingthehardwareoverlaysuchasDirectXapplicationsthedefaultdriverbehavioristoenablethehardwareoverlaywhennViewCloneorSpanmodeisenabled.

Becausethedriversupportsonlyonehardwareoverlay,thevideoappearsononlyonedisplay.

Applying Workstation Application Profiles ApplicationProfilesShouldbeUsed

TheworkstationapplicationprofilesaresoftwaresettingsusedbytheNVIDIADisplayDriverstoprovideoptimumperformancewhenusingaselectedapplication.Theprofilealsoworksaroundknownapplicationissuesandbugs.

Ifthereisanavailablesettingforanapplication,itshouldbeused,otherwiseincorrectbehaviororreducedperformanceislikelytooccur.

ApplyingApplicationProfiles

Ifyoumakeaconfigurationchangewhiletheapplicationisopen,youmustexitandthenreopentheapplicationforthechangetotakeeffect.

Whenanapplicationisrunningitdoesnotreceivenotificationofconfigurationchanges.

No Antialiasing of 3DMark03 Image Quality Screen Captures Problem

AfterenablingantialiasingfromtheNVIDIAPropertiespage,3DMark03screencapturesobtainedusingtheapplicationsscreencapturefunctionmightnotbeantialiased.

Explanation

ThisisnotanNVIDIAbug,butratheraresultofdifferentmethodsusedtorenderantialiasedimages.

Dependingonacombinationoffactors,thedrivermaytakeadvantageoftheNVIDIAhardwaresabilitytobypassthefrontbufferwhilerenderinganantialiasedimage.Inthiscase,thefrontbufferdoesnotcontainantialiaseddata,soifanapplicationtakesdatafromthefrontbufferasisthecasewith3DMark03sImageQualityscreencapturesthentheresultingimageisnotantialiased.

Toaccommodateapplicationsthatrequestuseofthefrontbuffer,theNVIDIAsoftwarecanprovidetheantialiaseddatainabuffertotheapplication.SincethisnegatestheadvantagesoftheNVIDIAhardwarecapability,thissupportisenabledonlywhenantialiasingisenabledwithintheapplication,andnotfromtheNVIDIAcontrolpanel.

Inallcaseswhenantialiasingisenabled,screenimagesaswellasscreencapturesobtainedusingthePrintScreenkeyarealwaysantialiased.

Medal of Honor Under Windows XP / Windows 2000 Problem

TheElectronicArtsgameMedalofHonorusesahardcodedbuffertoparsetheOpenGLextensionstring.ThiscancauseasystemcrashunderWindowsXPandWindows2000.

Workaround

NVIDIAhasimplementedMedalofHonorapplicationdetectiontoworkaroundthisextensionstringcrash.

Windows XP/2000 Issue with Settings Tab Monitor Positioning Problem

IntheWindowsDisplayProperties>Settingstab,thesecondarymonitorscannotbepositioneddirectlyabovemonitor#1withoutsnappinghorizontallytoapositiondiagonaltomonitor#1.

WhentheProblemOccurs

Theproblemoccurswhenfourmonitorsareconnectedtothegraphicsadaptercard,butonlytwoofthemareenabled.

CauseandWorkaround

ThisisaMicrosoftnotanNVIDIAbug,andthereisnoworkaroundtocorrectthepositioningofthemonitoricons.However,theactualpositioningofthedisplaysonthedesktopcanbecorrectedusingthenViewDesktopManagerwindowasfollows:1 UndertheToolstabintheDesktopManagerwindows,makesureAutomatically

AlignDisplaysischecked.2 IntheSettingstab,positiontheappropriatemonitoriconabovemonitor#1,then

clickApply.Themousecursormovementbetweenmonitordesktopswillcorrespondtoaverticalorientationofthemonitors,eventhoughthemonitoriconsintheSettingstabarediagonaltoeachother.

Note: This will be the case even if the monitor icons are deliberately positioned diagonal to each other.

Antialiasing Problems With Certain ApplicationsAntialiasingintheNVIDIADirect3Ddriverrequireseachnewframetoberenderedfromscratch.Thisrequirementadverselyaffectsapplicationsthatrenderonlythatportionofthecontentthathaschangedsincethelastframe.Acommonsymptomofthisproblemisgeometricstructuresthatincorrectlydisappearandreappearasthesceneshifts.

MicrosoftWindows2000andWindowsXPsystemsusingAMDK7andK8processorscanhangwhenanAGPorPCIEprogramisused.

RootCause

ThereisaknownproblemwithMicrosoftWindows2000andWindowsXPsystemsusingAMDK7andK8CPUsthatresultsintheMicrosoftoperatingsystemallocatingoverlapping4Mcachedpageswith4kwritecombinedpages.Thisconditionresultsinundefinedbehavioranddatacorruption,andisexplicitlydisallowedbytheAMDCPUmanual.

Thisproblemcanaffectanydevicedriverinthesystemthatallocateswritecombinedsystemmemory,butisusuallymosteasilyreproducedwithgraphicsdriverssincegraphicsdriversgenerallymakeheavyuseofwritecombinedsystemmemoryforperformancereasons.

Microsofthasaknowledgebasearticleontheissue,thetextofwhichisunfortunatelyquiteoutdated.WhilethearticleonlymentionsWindows2000,AGP,andK7,boththerootcauseandresolutionalsoapplytoWindows2000orWindowsXP,AGPorPCIE,andAMDK7orK8.Thearticlecanbefoundathttp://support.microsoft.com/?id=270715.
