    TONIGHTS GAME The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns football team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when it travels

    north to Ruston to face in-state rival Louisiana Tech in a 6 p.m. contest at Joe Aillet Stadium. The game will be televised on the American Sports Network with Ron Thulin (pbp) and Keith

    Moreland (color) providing the commentary. The game will also be broadcast statewide on the

    Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Radio Network withJay Walker(pbp), Richie Falgout (color) and Travis

    Webb (sideline) handling the call.

    Louisiana (1-2) looks to rebound from a 35-14 setback to Mid-American Conference opponentAkron on Saturday at Cajun Field after being held to 285 yards of total offense while committing

    four turnovers.

    Elijah McGuire, who moved into fth-place on the schools all-time rushing list with 2,458yards, gained 83 yards and added a touchdown for the Ragin Cajuns.Jalen Nixoncame offthe

    bench to set career-highs in pass attempts (20), completions (11) and yards (96) while tossing hissecond career touchdown in the fourth quarter.

    Jamal Robinsoncaught a pair of passes for the Ragin Cajuns and moved past Willie Culpep-perinto seventh-place on the schools all-time list for receiving yards with 1,980. The senior

    enters Saturdays game with Louisiana Tech (2-2, 1-1 C-USA) nine yards shy of passing Bill Sampy

    (2002-05) for sixth place on the career list. On the season, McGuire ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in rushing (110.3 yards per

    game) and is fourth overall in all-purpose yards, averaging 137.0 yards per game.The game against Louisiana Tech (2-2, 1-1 C-USA) marks the 87th meeting between the

    schools on the gridiron in a series that dates back to 1910. The Bulldogs posted a 48-20 win over

He is also available in his office from 8:15-11:15 a.m., Tuesday-Thursday for telephone and in-person interviews. Once a request is approved by the Sports InformationOffice, a representative of the football office will coordinate an appointment.

    Contacting Student-AthletesMEDIA MEMBERS SHOULD NEVER CONTACT A STUDENT-ATHLETE DIRECTLY AT ANY TIME. Thatcontact rule begins the minute the S-A enrolls in school as a freshman until the time they run out ofeligibility offseason and summers included. Contact includes, but is not limited to, in-person interviewsoutside of an athletic event or practice, phone calls, text messages, e-mail and any other form of onlinecommunication (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.). This event is open ONLY to credentialedmembers of the media. Lunch will be served between 12-12:30 p.m. with Hudspeths opening commentsscheduled to follow shortly after comments from the soccer and volleyball programs. Schedulepermitting, student-athletes may be available to address the media during this time (if there are not classconicts) . Media are asked to please arrive early.

    Sun Belt Conference TeleconferenceThe Sun Belt Conference will have a weekly teleconference of the football coaches around the league on

    Mondays beginning Aug. 31. The teleconference will begin at 10:30 a.m. (CT) with general announcementsfrom around the conference.     NOTES FROM THE AKRON GAME Junior tight end Nick Byrne set career-highs in receptions (4) and yards (38). Byrnes four receptions were the rst among Ragin Cajuns tight ends in 2015.Jalen Nixoncame offthe bench and set career marks in completions (11), attempts (20) and yards(96). His 8-yard touchdown to Gabe Fuselier was his rst TD pass since hitting Ricky Johnson ona 47-yard score at South Alabama (12/7/2013). Zach DeGranges fourth-quarter interception was the rst of his career. Junior Karmichael Dunbar and redshirt freshman LaDarrius Kidd each set career-highs withfour tackles. Sophomore Ross Duhon was credited with his rst career tackle in the fourth quarter. Tremaine Lightfoot earned his rst start of the season at linebacker. The 14 points scored by the Ragin Cajuns were the fewest in 24 games at Cajun Field in the

    Mark Hudspeth era.

    SEASON NOTES ON THE RAGIN CAJUNS Elijah McGuires 88-yard TD run against Northwestern State (Sept. 12) is currently ranked as thefth-longest run by an FBS player this season. Dominique Tovells 5.0 tackles for loss in the season-opener at Kentucky (9/5) is tied for thesecond-most in an FBS game in 2015. The Ragin Cajuns will honor the victims of the July 23rd tragedy at Lafayettes Grand Theaterby wearing a special Lafayette Strong helmet sticker. The team will also enter the eld with adesignated player carrying a Lafayette Strong ag.

    CONTINUTY ON THE LINE Louisiana entered the 2015 season with three returning starters - left guard Mykhael Quaveright guard Donovan Williams and right tackle Octravian Anderson - who had a combined 78

    starts under their belt. In the past three years under offensive line coach Mitch Rodrigue, the Ragin Cajuns startingoffensive line unit in the season-opener has been the same for the entire season. Quave, the Ragin Cajuns left tackle in 2013-14, has started 42 consecutive games with Andersona two-year starter, extending his streak to 29 games. Williams, who moved over to right guardreplacing 52-game starter Daniel Quave, has started in 16 straight games after playing everygame last season at left guard. New starters Grant Horst (left tackle) and Eddie Gordon (center) made their rst career startsin the season-opener at Kentucky.

    THE BOOK OF ELI Junior running back Elijah McGuireentered the 2015 season as one of the most decorated playersto wear a Ragin Cajuns uniform and after two games, has continued his assault on the record book In his third season in a Ragin Cajuns uniform, McGuire has rushed for 2,458 yards, ranking fthon the schools all-time list. McGuire became the fourth player in school history (joining TyrelFenroy and former quarterbacks Brian Mitchell and Michael Desormeaux) to rush for over 1,000yard in a season when he gained 1,264 yards in 2014. McGuire, the 2015 Preseason Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was the 2013 SBCFreshman of the Year and the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Playeof the Year. This season, McGuire is a candidate for the Doak Walker Award, the Maxwell Award, the PauHornung Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year.

    LAFAYETTE In the first meeting since 2004,Louisiana Tech totaled 533 yards of offense and forcedthree turnovers to hand the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns a 48-20defeat in front of 25,607 fans at Cajun Field. Terrance Broadway nished 19-for-31 for 150 yardswith one touchdown and one interception, while rushingfor 82 yards on 13 attempts. Gabe Fuselier led the Cajunswith 52 receiving yards on six catches.

    After punter Daniel Cadonas 34-yard punt pinnedthe Bulldogs down at their own one-yard line in the rstquarter, Kenneth Dixon put Louisiana Tech (1-1) on theboard rst with a 99-yard touchdown run, the longest inCajun Field history, for a 7-0 advantage with 4:25 to playin the opening period. Louisiana (1-1) answered on the next drive. Broadwaymoved the Cajuns into Bulldog territory following a 33-yard run to the Louisiana Tech 15 late in the rst period.Alonzo Harris then carried the Cajuns the rest of the waywith a six-yard scamper up the middle on the rst play ofthe second quarter to knot the game at 7-7. After the Cajuns were halted on a fourth-and-oneattempt from the Bulldog 39, Louisiana Tech put togethera nine-play, 61-yard drive to go up 14-7 with 4:33 to playin the half.

    The Bulldogs took little time in extending their leadin the second half as Sokol completed a 78-yard pass to

    Sterling Griffin for a 24-7 Louisiana Tech lead with 14:11left in the third. With less than four minutes to play inthe third quarter, a 46-yard interception return by XavierWoods stretched the Bulldogs lead to 31-7 at 3:45. Louisiana Tech extended its lead further in the nalperiod, tallying 17 points in the quarter with a 32-yardrun by Dixon to cap offa nine-play, 55-yard drive beforea 32-yard eld goal attempt by Jonathan Barnes made it41-7 four minutes into the fourth.

    SETTING A STANDARD In addition to four consecutive seasons of appearing in a bowl game, Mark Hudspeth has helpedLouisiana tie the school record for wins in a season with nine. Prior to consecutive 9-4 records from 2011-14, the Cajuns set the school record for wins with a9-2 record in both 1921 and 1976. The 37 wins in Hudspeths rst four years are the most in in school history.

    CAJUNS HAVE ENJOYED BOWLING IN PAST FOUR SEASONS Louisiana is one of ve schools nationally to have won a bowl/postseason game in each of thepast four seasons.

    The Cajuns, with four victories in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, are part of a list that includesMichigan State (Outback, Buffalo Wild Wings, Rose, Cotton), Oregon (Rose, Fiesta, Alamo, Rose),South Carolina (Capitol One, Outback, Capitol One, Independence) and Texas A&M (Meinke CarCare, Cotton, Chick-Fil-A, Music City). With a 16-3 win over Nevada in the 2014 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Louisiana became therst school in NCAA history to win the same bowl game four consecutive years.

    NEW DEFENSIVE STAFFA new defensive staff, led by defensive coordinator Melvin Smith, made its debut against Kentuckyon Sept. 5. Smith, who serves as defensive backs coach, spent the past two years at Auburn. Smith is joined by former Auburn assistants Charlie Harbison (co-defensive coordinator/outsidelinebackers) and Levorn Harbin (defensive line) along with formerSoutheastern Louisiana headcoach and veteran defensive coordinator Mike Lucas (inside linebackers). They replace former defensive coordinator James Willis (Asst. LB coach, New Orleans Saints),Tim Rebowe (head coach, Nicholls State), Matt Wallerstedt (DC, Charlotte) and Tim Edwards(DL, Buffalo).

    NEW KICKS IMPRESSIVE IN RAGIN CAJUNS DEBUT After losing both Hunter Stover and Daniel Cadona to graduation, the Ragin Cajuns introduceda new kicking combo of true freshmen Stevie Artigue and Steven Coutts. Artigue, a four-time all-district and three-time Class 5A All-State selection at nearby LafayetteHigh School, has converted on nine of 10 extra point attempts for the Ragin Cajuns while going2-for-2 in eld goals. Coutts, the second Australian to sign with the Ragin Cajuns in the past three years after followingin the footsteps of Cadona, is second in the Sun Belt Conference in punting with a 45.3 average.

    MR. ROBINSON IS BACK IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD After being limited to four games last season due to knee and foot injuries, seniorJamal Robinsonhas made a successful return to the lineup, catching 10 passes for 151 yards. His 58-yard reception

    against Northwestern State was the third-longest of his career, following grabs of 86 yards (vs.Lamar) and 81 (at ULM) in 2012. The 2014 BiletnikoffWatch List candidate caught 15 passes with four touchdowns in four gameslast season before being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a foot injury at Texas State. The 2015 Preseason Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference candidate ranks ninth in school historywith 112 receptions and is seventh overall in receiving yards (1,980). With nine yards receiving,Robinson would pass Bill Sampy (1,988 yards from 2002-05) for sixth-place on the schools all-time list and is 20 yards shy of reaching the 2,000-yard mark.

    NEW FACILITIES FOR RAGIN CAJUNS FOOTBALL The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns football team officially moved into its new 100,000-square footStudent-Athlete Performance Center on September 13-14. The new building, which is part of theUniversitys $115 million Athletics Facilities Master Plan that was unveiled in March of 2013, willhouse new offices and locker rooms for the Ragin Cajuns football team, as well as a state-of-the-art

    Athletic Training Room, new weight room, new equipment room and 150-seat auditorium thatwill benet all Ragin Cajuns student-athletes. Ground was broken on the project in August of 2014 and is part of Tier 1 projects that includedthe expansion of Cajun Field. Upgrades at Cajun Field, which were completed prior to the 2014season included the addition of seats in the South End Zone, raising capacity to 41,426, plus anew concession stands and restrooms in the South End Zone facility. Also included in Tier 1 were upgrades to the Ragin Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility, that includesnew locker rooms and coaches offices for both the soccer and track and eld programs, a newpressbox, restrooms, a concession stand and retail area.

    NEW VOICES IN THE BOOTH New voices in the booth and on the sideline are just some of the changes fans will notice whenthey tune in to radio broadcasts of the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns this fall, announced by rights-holderTownsquare Media of Lafayette. Former Ragin Cajuns wide receiver Richie Falgout will join play by play voiceJay Walker (in his24th year on the network)in the broadcast booth as color analyst, while KATC-TV sports anchorTravis Webb will serve as the radio networks sideline reporter. Steve Peloquin and Gerald Broussardwill continue to be part of the broadcasts as they willserve as co-hosts of the two hour pre-game show, one hour of which will be broadcast on theeight-station Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Radio Network.

    Falgout, who was a wide receiver for the Cajuns from 2007-2010, begins his rst year as part ofthe network broadcast team. Webb is in his eighth year at the local ABC affiliate. He also hoststhe Ragin Cajuns All-Access television show during the athletic year on KATCs CW affiliateWednesdays at 9 p.m.

    RAGIN CAJUNS REPEAT AS SUN BELT ACADEMIC CHAMPS The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns football team earned the best cumulative grade point average amongSun Belt Conference schools for the second consecutive year as the league announced its TeamGPA Awards for the 2014-15 academic year. Louisiana posted a 2.81 team GPA during the 2014-15 academic year to lead all football schoolscompeting in the Sun Belt. During the Fall 2014 semester, the Ragin Cajuns recorded their highest GPA in team history(2.923) and posted its sixth consecutive semester of 2.6 or higher. Fifty-two percent of the student-athletes on the roster earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the fall with six players earning a 4.0, and11 receiving their degree during Fall Commencement ceremonies.

    CAJUNS PICKED SECOND IN SUN BELT In voting by the leagues head coaches, Louisiana was picked to nish second in the Sun BeltConference. The Ragin Cajuns received three rst-place votes and garnered 108 points, nishingbehind defending champion Georgia Southern.

    n Haack was 7-for-8 in the win against NorthwesternState passing for 187 yards, but has yet to pass for a TDin 2015. He also had a career-high with 51 yards on the

    ground coming on six carries.

    n Haack posted a career-high for attempts,completions and yards at Kentucky while alsorecording his rst career touchdown on a 4-yardnaked bootleg run.

    nNixon spurred a 23-point rally in the second half atKentucky capped by a 23-yard scamper.

    nNixon has the only passing TD of the season withan 8-yard strike to Gabe Fuselieragainst Akron.

    n Nixon posted career-highs for attempts (20),completions (11), yards (96) and passing touchdowns(1) against Akron.

    nJordan Davisis listed as the third string quarterbackand is the quickest of the three quarterbacks and isthe only freshman among the group. Both Haack andNixon are juniors and are in their fourth year with theprogram.

    n McGuire had two TD runs of 20-plus yardsincluding a career-best 88-yard scamper in the rstquarter against NSU.

    n McGuire has rushed for 100-yards in 10 gamesincluding posting 162 yards against the Demons.

    n Torrey Pierce had a career game at Kentuckyrushing for a career-best 110 yards on 10 career andequalled a career-high with two TD runs including along of 56 yards.

    nMcGuire had 142 yards of total offense at Kentuckyrushing for 86 yards on a career-high 27 carries whileposting 56 yards on four catches. He hauled in a43-yard pass that lead to a Cajuns eld goal in the

    second half.

    nMcGuire became the rst Ragin Cajuns player topost 100-yards rushing and 100-yards receiving inthe same game against Georgia State in 2013 as herushed for 107 yds and caught three passes for 125yds.

    nMcGuire posted the third best rushing performancein school history against Arkansas State at home on Oct.21, 2014 rushing for 265 yards on 19 carries and 4 TDS.

    n Jamal Robinson is back for the 2015 seasonafter missing most of the 2014 campaign due toinjury. Robinson ranks fth all time in touchdownreceptions with 15 in four seasons.

    nRobinson moved into eighth in school history incareer receiving yards with 1,980 in four seasonsafter tallying 22 yards on two grabs against Akron.He is eight yards back of Bill Sampy for seventh.

    n Anderson, Quave and Williams all did not miss astart during the 2014 season helping guide Louisianato its fourth straight bowl game and the 22nd rankedrushing offense in the nation.

    n Quave made the move left guard for the 2015season after starting all 13 games at left tackle in2014. Quave played two seasons at guard beforemaking the move last season.

    n Dominique Tovell leads what is probably thestrongest unit on the Cajuns squad in the linebackerscorps. Tovell has 171 career tackles (116 solo) to gowith 31.0 tackles-for-loss (TFL) and 8.0 sacks.

    nTovell had a career day at Kentucky tying the schoolrecord with 5.0 TFL (-18) on seven stops. He also had2.0 sacks in the contest.

    n Tovell needs 2.0 TFL to move into the top 5 inprogram history to tie Rich Gannon with 33.0.

    n Zach DeGrange has made a huge impact inthe rst three games with a combined 14 tacklesincluding 3.0 TFL and 2.0 sacks and an interception.DeGrange posted a career-high 2.0 TFL against

    Northwestern State. He is second on the team intackles.

    nTyren Alexander has posted four tackles in back-to-back contest against the Demons and Zips.
