Why BHCA (Busy Hour Call Attempts)?

traffic in a telecommunication network is not bursty

the traffic statistic of a day shows busy hours in the

    morning and in the afternoon

these busy hours bring the turnover

so it is important to have a system which can

handle this traffic load for several hours and not

    only seconds

traffic load per hour is measured in BHCA

    Coordination Processor 113E (CP113E)

Functional Units BAP, CAP, IOC, AMP, CMY

Basic processor (BAP)One of the two BAPs operates as master (BAPM), the other as spare (BAPS).They operate in task and load sharing mode. The BAPM processes operation andmaintenance tasks as well as some of the call-processing tasks. If the BAPM fails, theBAPS takes over.

Call processor (CAP)The CAP handles call processing tasks only. They work in load sharing mode.Together with the BAPS and BAPM, the CAPs form a pool redundancy (n+1redundancy).

Input/output control (IOC)The input/output controls (IOC) contain software for communication with the callprocessing, operation and maintenance, and data communication peripheries. TheIOCs are redundant. They constitute the interface between the CMY and IOP.

ATM bridge processor (AMP)The AMP contains the software for communication with the SSNC. It converts packet-oriented data streams from the ATM area to the CP113E communication mode andvice versa. For Redundancy the AMPs are always operated in pairs in the CP113E.

Common memory (CMY)The CMY is the central memory medium for the connected BAPs, CAPs, IOCs, andAMPs. It contains the common database, the input and output lists for the IOP:MBand the communication areas for the IOP to the OA&M periphery. In normal operationthe two CMYs perform all read and write cycles synchronously.

    Coordination Processor 113E (CP113E)

    Functional Units Input/Output processors (IOP)

The IOPs control the exchange of data between the call processing and the OA&Mperiphery in the network. Up to 16 IOPs can be connected per IOC. For redundancy theIOPs are always operated in pairs.

Input/output processor for message buffer (IOP:MB)The IOP:MB forms the interface between the CP113E and the other subsystems andfunctional units via the MB.

    Input/output processor unified for OA&M devices (IOP:UNI)

The IOP:UNI allows the following devices and lines to be connected: magnetic disk device (MDD) magneto-optical disk device (MOD) and optionally one management system and two data links or three data links

Input/output processor for serial data communication devices BX.25/X.25-protocol(IOP:SCDP)The IOP:SCDP consists of:

Line control unit, module B (LCUB) handling control functions in the IOP:SCDP and Line adaptation unit, module B (LAUB) providing the X.25 interfaces of the IOP:SCDPand controlled by the module LCUB. The LAUB has two interfaces with X.25 protocol forconnection of data terminal equipment and data transmission equipment.

Input/output processor for time and alarms (IOP:TA)The IOP:TA contains the hardware clock for the CP113E and the interfaces for connectingexternal alarms.

Message Buffer D (MBD) Functional units

Each MBD Ethernet module (MBDE) connects 4 fast Ethernet externalinterfaces to the MBD internal bus (IBUS). These interfaces provide theconnection to the packet control unit (PCU), the media control platform(MCP), the open service platform (OSP) and SURPASS hiG Mediagateway for access.

The ATM interface module (MBDA) connects the MBD via optical links to

the SS7 Control (SSNC). One MBDA supports a maximum of four fiberoptic transceiver. Two redundant ATM connections can be set up. Eachmodule is capable of processing 24,000 SS7 message signal units (MSU)per second. A maximum of five MBDA can be deployed.

The message buffer controller (MBDC) is the interface to CP113E. TheMBD transmits messages to and receives commands from the CP113E.

The clock module (MBDCG) forms part of the synchronous clockdistribution of the SURPASS hiE 9200. The MBD is synchronized by theCCGE. In addition, it performs the function of a multiplexer/demultiplexerfor the interface between the MBD and the switching network D (SND).

The HDLC interface module (MBDH) provides the interface to SURPASSaccess gateway hiG1600.

    Media Control Platform (MCP)

FunctionalityA scalable array of MCP provides the call and feature processing as well assignaling interworking. It includes:

the control of media gateways via MGCP or H.248 / MEGACO

The inter-softswitch communication via BICC, SIP-NNI or SIP-T

IP subscribers connected via H.323 and MGCP(H.323 SW Clients, H.323 IP Phones, H.323 CPE, MGCP CPG/IAD).

Handling of the whole range of signaling protocols for voice traffic likeISDN user part (ISUP), transaction capabilities application part (TCAP),IN application part (INAP).

The MCPs handle all the protocol specific processing, including countryspecific signaling and feature variants. For each signaling protocol the MCPsprovide mediation onto a universal call control interface, which is designed tofacilitate the unlimited interworking between all the different protocols andfeature sets.

    Signaling System Network Control (SSNC)

The Hardware of the signaling gateway is based onSignaling System Network Control (SSNC).

SSNC can be operated either in stand-alone mode asSignaling Transfer Point (STP) / Signaling Gateway (SG)or as integrated part of Softswitch hiE9200.

In both scenarios SSNC provides SS7 over TDM

    SS7 over ATM

    SS7 over IP

    and valuable features around it

to handle the enormous amount of signaling traffic

    and simplify network administration.
